Smart meters

Not with OVO but I’ve found the forum very helpful previously so posting here if anyone has any ideas. EDF have no idea what I’m talking about… New property (to me) which is being renovated soon. Had SMETS2 meters installed a couple weeks ago, and an isolation switch today - both installs organised by EDF but carried out by their contractor. After the isolation switch was installed and everything reengerised, the reactive kv light is constantly lit on the meter. Installer said “that’s normal” and left. Any idea why this would be? Initially thought due to not having much of a load on the meter, but even when running a heater, the kvarh light stays lit. Image of the thing I’m seeing below: 

Hi. During this month (December 2021) have had my gas & electricity accounts transferred to OVO. I have smart meters for both supplies, which I have had for several years, and an In House Display in the hallway, roughly 6 feet from both meters. Prior to the transfer, the IHD regularly and correctly switched through its colour sequences - green, orange & red - in accordance with the energy usage at the time. However, since the transfer it is now displaying a red light almost all the time, even when high energy appliances are not in use. Even with most items turned off and the central heating not running, it displays an orange light where before it would have been green. I have also noted that the tariffs shown on the IHD do not match my actual tariff and are much higher per unit. I have tried rebooting the IHD but it has made no difference. Can anyone offer answers to this?

Hopefully theres nothing to be concerned about but…..Had a SMETS2 meter for about 9 months with SEB and its always worked fine, as has the IHD. Have recently been switched to OVO and suddenly Im being told my account is not getting readingsIs there a usual ‘bedding in time’ so to speak? Lights on the meter are all flashing green every 5 seconds, and the IHD usage reading are updating as normalYes I can supply manual readings I guess, but it rather defeats the point Hopefully Im jumping the gun and it will sort itself out, but thought it best to askTIA

Hello, I wondered if someone could help me out. Excluding University, this is the first time I have lived away from home and it’s been around 5 months, so please excuse my naivety around this topic.When we moved into our building, we were unsure of how to access our meter, eventually we were told the readings were taken every month and placed on a communal notice bored - we do not have the code to access this ourselves. It is worth noting our full flat is powered by electricity, there is no gas. We have also been told we’re unable to have a smart meter by the estate agents.This is partly our fault for not chasing this up, but for 3 months the meter readings were not posted, so OVO charged us an estimate. Hi there, New to the community but have read numerous posts on this subject and have learnt a lot in the process!Brief history is that I bought an EV, moved to OVO so as to benefit from favourable EV tariff, have been trying to get a Smart Meter installed since May, constantly get fobbed off with e-mails/conversations like the one below and am no further forward.  I live six miles from Colchester, not in the NW of Scotland.Aside from the fact that I think the e-mail below is appalling - who is going to understand a mail like this without the technical knowledge required - what I would like to know from the amazing people on this forum is this:Is it so unusual that a T3 aerial would be required for installation (if this indeed is what they mean by “an issue relating to T3 aerial”)?  Is this for installer to provide?  Could I purchase one so that there would then be one less problem?  Is it a genuine excuse to cancel the installation appointment?

Got up this morning to find my smart meter gas reading was not showing.  Heating been on all day but total on IHD is zero.  Checked readings on my account but also no readings.  Electricity is fine.  Will this fix itself or do I have to contact Ovo?

Recently had smart meters installed (SMETS 2 Meter) the installer never left us the in home display so had to contact ovo who speedily sent out the Trio II display, there are no instructions with the device I've switched it on and recieve connecting to smart meter followed by meter not commissioned.On the SMETS 2 meter  the WAN and HAN light indicators are off no lights.How do I go about resolving these issues.

We have been seeing incredibly high gas usage for the last few months or so, even when no one is in the house. We’ve not even had our heating on yet and it’s mid December because we are so concerned about the usage clocking up just using the boiler for hot water. For example on Sunday no one was home between the hours of 4.30pm-11.30pm and we clocked up around 60kwh of usage according to the OVO app:For reference I live in a moderately sized 4 bedroom flat, in a block of 5 flats. We are currently only using the gas for hot water for showers or washing up.Temperatures are now below freezing so we want to put our heating on but with the extra usage clocking up our bill is already unmanageable and we are lost at what to do next. Can anyone offer any advice?

Good morning Im new here and looking at changing my supplier from British Gas who have been shocking.On 3 different occasions they have been out to fit a smart meter at our bungalow and on all 3 occasions they have not been able to do this because the engineer has not got the meter required because our gas and electricity meter are more than 5 meters apart. I would say they are a maximum of 10 meters away with no major thick walls in the way.They have now on the 4th occasion cancelled our appointment before even getting to us saying they have a shortage of engineers then saying no smart meter available.we are wanting to upgrade our aging current car to a EV but with the mileage we do require to be a EV tariff to make it worth while . Is this something that OVO can do if we switch suppliers as OVO has been recommended.

Smart meter failed.  No display. Will not wake up, no warnings (Audiable) or on the smart meter in-house display  Spoke to Cadet they said the meter faulty.   Why do smart meters fail closed?  The fail appeared on Saturday afternoon, Central heating boiler detected no gas ignition.  Cadet said OVO are responsible for the meter and require it to be replaced.  Just seems mad to fail closed.  No heating/hot water for nearly 2 days.I assume as the fault is with the OVO there will be a compensation owed for inconvenience. Meter approx 10 years old.

My IHD6 unit no longer functions. So far as I can tell it is physically undamaged. It is plugged in, with a full battery, and visually appears to be trying to work, but it resets/reboots every 1 minute 14 seconds, in a continual cycle. This started suddenly sometime in mid December 2023, perhaps 15th or thereabouts. Has anybody else had this problem? On the second email attempt, I got a response from OVO by email and the lady has said to me “what I did was request that your IHD's firmware be refreshed, which can hopefully get your IHD fully smart and operational. The firmware update should fix your IHD's display in the next 48 hours, in the meantime, please put the device as close to your electricity meter as possible. After 48 hours, can you please switch off your IHD and turn it back on again?”I have done this and I wait and see, but I am sceptical it will work because the IHD6 is not on long enough between resets for the connectio

Switched to an E7 Smart meter in mid-August (electric only, no gas), readings started being recorded almost immediately, no upto 6 week wait for me I thought however billing ignored them!I assumed this was  because final readings from the previous meter had not been posted for some reason.Eventually after a few contacts with Customer Support and raising a complaint, I got this fixed in mid-October (8+ weeks after install) in under 2 hours when the right person got on the case, so I was happy.Relaxed too soon as within a few days my meter went dark - all the correct lights were on, blinking at the correct rate and the home monitor was working fine but readings were not reaching the OVO billing systems.Found the link on the Forum to the OVO web page to report this issue, filled in the details and got a response that I would be contacted in upto 45 days !Meanwhile started giving manual readings so as not to get any crazy estimates on usage.D

I had a SMETS2 meter installed a couple of years ago. It worked fine for well over a year and then suddenly stopped working at the start of the year. Trying to arrange a replacement has been an absolute nightmare with failed appointments, etc but an engineer finally turned up today. I’m in a block of six flats with a meter cupboard for all the different properties in the entrance lobby. Adjacent to that is a cupboard, presumably where the mains supply enters the building and also contains all the mains fuses for each property. Unfortunately the fuses aren’t labelled and so he was unable to disconnect my supply to install the replacement meter. I fully understand why he can’t just turn the supply off to every property. He did advise that there was a piece of kit which can establish which incoming supply / fuse leads to which meter but that he didn’t carry one with him. He advised me that it was my responsibility to establish which fuse belongs to my property so that someone can come

I have just had a new meter fitted and an in home smart meter but no manuals were supplied.Should manuals be supplied  

We have unresolved smart meter issues (another story).  Recently we have been reporting gas and electricity meter readings to OVO by telephone.  Today (1st September) I checked the electricity meter (an EDMI ES-10A) to find that the reading was unchanged from the one I reported on the 31st July  and instead of “IMPRT” above the number on the meter screen there was just a capital A.   I don’t know what is going on, could someone please enlighten me? 

My daughter in law has had her storage heaters removed and replaced with gas central heating. The economy 7 tariff has been disabled by her supplier, is it possible to have the supply switched on permanently to the storage heater dis board so that some of these circuits can be used.The dis board is fed from a Secure Liberty 100 smart meter via a Proteus 100A Heating contactor.

Last year OVO replaced my two meters with a new single meter - Aclara SGM1415-B - and, so far so good, everything seems to work fine.I would like to replace my existing storage heaters with new and hopefully more efficient ones - the old ones are over 30 years old so there must have been some improvement since then, also they’re getting very tatty and I’m getting earache about their appearance…Anyway, I’ve been looking at the Dimplex Quantum HHR range but noticed that they need a 24 hour supply.My present setup is two fuse boards, one for the economy 7 and a second one for everything else.Am I going to need to get these rewired or even replaced? thanks guys

HI, Recently moved into a flat with storage heaters which are not turning at all. Regardless of what time of day they do not turn on at all. They have switches on its side to turn it on with a light indicating whether its on.  From my limited knowledge they meant to operate during off peak electricity but this still hasn't worked.  They only work if I manually go onto my meter and start a boost and this then turns it on. I've contacted my supplier who said the meter setup seems to be correct so cannot do anything else.  Any help would be appreciated! I've attached the heaters and themeter setup

Long story …. short(ish) version >>> My Economy 7 electricity meter completely failed on 16th October and since then I have had no midnight switch to heat my hot water cylinder and storage heaters. Not great when you are 65 years old and been extremely unwell with flu during this period. Ovo Energy initially offered a smart meter replacement on 17th November. Totally unacceptable given that I have no hot water or heating. After repeated pressure, they finally agreed to treat this as an emergency. Monday 30th October …. smart meter installed by MDS …. Aclara smart meter serial number 21M0364172 …. Aclara smart meter model SGM1416-B (SMETS2) for dual rate day peak and night off-peak (Economy 7) Tuesday 31st October …. smart meter supposedly commissioned and configured correctly by MDS …. but quite evidently not! Wednesday 1st November …. SMS engineer visited and tested the smart

To install the smart meter, I had normal power consumption. After installing this, the counter suddenly increased. I wasn't able to determine how much electricity consumption had increased. But from April 15 to September 25, 2023, I was not in the apartment. I turned off everything. even the electricity consumption indicator which supposedly consumes 1kWh of electricity per year. I also turned off all the sockets. I also unplugged the refrigerator and washing machine. Unfortunately, after receiving the bills, I saw in black and white that I used over 111 kWh per month when I was not at home. Nobody has a key to my apartment. How is it possible?

I am new to OVO having been migrated from my previous supplier. I have found the OVO forum useful already, but does not solve my problem. My meter did have a T2 antenna fitted and was lighting up all the indicators except HAN. (We have no gas)Which I have discovered on this forum means that the meter was not commissioned. Subsequently a technician  changed it back to one without an external antenna. Which of course does not work and SW lights up and the WAN lights every one second. Any ideas. 

Noticed this morning that the blue flame was showing about 0.08p per kWh. We haven’t used any hot water for at least 45 mins yet still shows usage, dropping down to 0.02p now. At a loss what’s happening. It has been off and then back on again after using some hot water. Not radiators as they’re definitely off

I reported my Smart Meter was not working in July last year. Nothing has been done about it, though every month I get an email message about the need to supply readings, which is kind of annoying. The screen on the meter is dead so not even manual readings are possible. When chasing some action on this I received a reply in November saying there was a queue for meters to be fixed, but I would be notified as soon as an engineer was available. As it is now April, it must be some long queue.
