Smart meters

My new smart meter is not sending data to the DCC. It was installed in Feb 24 and has sent data from 1st April (but not prior) and then stopped on 9th May. The WAN light still flashes every 5 seconds so I cannot understand why it isn’t communicating. The HAN light also flashes every 5 seconds and I can see live data from meter. I am on Octopus and they want to remove me from their EV tariff. Can anyone explain why this would not be communicating data and what I can do about it?  Grateful for any help. 

Hi,We asked Ovo for an IHD well over a year ago and were advised one would be sent when Ovo had a suitable model back in stock, unfortunately nothing has ever arrived.However we have been given an unwanted Scottish Power Chameleon IHD3-PPMID-V3 (from a different address/account), can this be paired with our SMETS1 meters (Landis Gyr E470/G470, Trilliant SEAP-2001-V)?Thanks

I moved to OVO on the 17th April. I was previously with British Gas and I have a SMETS1 Smart Meter. How long do I need to wait until I can get a SMETS2 meter installed?

Hi. I am new to the forum. I have been with OVO for 10 months and I have had 2 SMETS2 meters fitted not long after I moved to OVO. Unfortunately, the system has never worked properly since installation ! What used to happen intermittently was one of 2 scenarios: The WAN light used to go off and my smart meter would stop sending my meter readings to OVO or the HAN light used to go off and my IHD would stop working with the message "waiting for current data"  being displayed. Last week all 4 lights (including the WAN and HAN lights) continued to work on the meter (they all flashed on once every 4 or 5 seconds) and yet my IHD stopped working which had never happened before whilst all 4 lights were working !? A couple of days ago the IHD came back on again but despite all 4 lights still displaying on the meter, my meter readings don't update on the OVO app. How is this ?  I thought

On return from holiday, I noted that gas usage was indicated when there had been no demand.  Subsequent checks, after a no-fault leak test, confirmed that with no demand, gas usage of nearly 0.5 cu. m. per day is being registered.  Postings on Money Saving Expert’s forum (Gas Meter Still Increasing Whilst Gas Isolated) refers) triggered me to wonder whether my meter could also be incrementing when the gas supply is isolated - and it is!The meter is a Landis & Gyr Libra 310P.  The meter label appears to show an installation date of 2011, and after the cu. m. consumption display, the character ‘F’ is displayed. I would be interested to know what the ‘F’ indicates?L&G Libra 310PI intend to put in a complaint to Ovo Energy and would welcome any observations, guidance, etc.  I’m guessing that the battery would

New gas and electricity meters installed in London SW15 on Thursday but not commissioned. Phoned OVO on Thursday morning as requested by Lee (the installer) and was told I would be phoned back in 24 hours, but this hasn’t happened. Have tried to fill in the form for smart meter problems on the app and put in the serial numbers but it responds by saying these aren’t recognised and that I should phone. This means waiting until Monday. I am really disappointed by the lack of response to my request which is made worse by my not being able to get through now. The serial numbers are 22L4******7 and G4F2212******0. Please advise on the best way of getting this problem solved.

Hi, first post.I had a smart meter fitted by EDF a couple of years ago.  It’s definitely SMETS2.  It interfered with my wifi network, but it did work well, for a few days.I complained to EDF about my wifi and they came out and turned the meters dumb - they’ve been like that since.I’m now being told by my current supplier that meters in dumb mode cannot be switched back to smart mode and they need to be replaced.  The meters can’t be replaced as nobody can get hold of them apparently so they won’t come out.Trouble is, I’m absolutely desperate to get them back to being smart again - I have an EV and want to get on a dual rate tariff, otherwise the car will cost more than petrol to run soon!I’m not buying the answer that it’s impossible to make ‘dumb’ meters smart again - so is it true?!Thanks!

I think I have a Smets 1 smart meter, fitted over 2 years ago. The IHD I received with it, never worked. Since then I've asked many times, if I can have a replacement. I get told that there is a problem obtaining new units (over 2 years!?) The last conversation said I was on a list to get one. I also  got promised an update, which I never got.  I've heard now that I might not get an IHD until I get an upgraded smart meter? Anybody in the same boat as me? Anybody from OVO care to comment?

Why have I not got a home display with my smart meter 

The agency told me that I have a sub meter for my flat and that I have to give the meter reading to the neighbour downstairs (main meter), so that I am billed accordingly. But they have a top-up smart meter for their electricity. Currently, my flat is consuming their credit and I don’t know how I can compute how much I have to pay. I’m planning to ask the agency to give us separate electricity bills so its convenient. Is this easy to do? Do I need to do anything or is this the agency’s responsibilities? What can I do so that they go ahead with giving us separate electricity bills?

No economy 7 power coming from the consumer box.

Until recently, my Chameleon IHD used to show a standing charge.  I went through it a couple of days ago, and it has stopped showing this.  The meter still identifies a charge of 50.5p per day.  I had heard somewhere that standing charges were to be banned for prepayment customers, and was wondering if that applies to credit meter accounts too.  

Just had a new smart meter fitted, Kaifa MA120 with a Toshiba top.since it was fitted I have been having trouble with my Harvi & Zappi car charger,I had a Grid CT lost error code come up. I’ve re installed Harvi on channel 1 & it worked for a while but again got CT code, I’ve now moved Harvi to channel 3 & appears to be ok.anone else had problems with there Harvi/Zappi set up since Smart meter install?cheers 

I have a GEO TRIO Touchbutton IHD connected to my smart meters. My tariff involves both day and night rates for electricity but I am unable to figure out how to see the different usages and meter readings for these on the IHD - I can only see a total electricity usage. I can see the two different rates directly on the smart meter and they are also visible on my on-line account. They are just not visible on the IHD - I’ve tried getting OVO to rectify this but no success so far. Any had a similar problem?

Contacted OVO do NOT call me, text or send letters about installing a Smart meter several times.Asked for this information to be on data base NEVER to contact me again regarding this as i will NOT be having one installed until it is a LEGAL requirement.Even after all this they still bully and harass me by telephone, texting and making appoinments i do NOT want.HOW DO I STOP THIS?

HiI had a smart meter installed recently and I am finding something strange with my Quantum Storage Heater.Prior to the installation I was on a Economy 7 rate and my heater would come on at 12am and off at 7am to charge. I knew this due to the LED light on the switch turning on. This occured during my offpeak time, as also confirmed by meter usage.Now, still on Economy 7, I am observing the heater isn’t coming on until 3am and the light stays lit up until 10am. I have confirmed my offpeak time on the smart hub is active at 12am onwards  (I can see the hourly rate changes over) but this isn’t activating or communicating with the heater. And between 7am and 10am, despite the LED light being lit up there is no usage so it isnt actually using my on peak time (again the hub confirms this from 7am onwards), which of course is good.But it seems the heater has gone out of time. I have checked the settings on the heater and it shows the off peak tariff time is 12a

Hi - I switched to OVO as I wanted to have a smart meter.  I have storage heating on economy 7 - Day and Night rate.  Went to book my installation and found that you cannot provide a smart meter.  Why is this - I have read through the forum and there appears to be plenty who have them?

My son had a smart meter installed 18 months ago.  His flat has 2 circuits, one general and one for night storage heaters.  It would obviously suit Eco 7 but he did not have an Eco 7 tariff and doesn’t want one.  The install failed to supply the night heaters and Ovo finally sent an engineer to fix it today.  He left saying that my son would have to have an Eco 7 tariff if he wants electricity on his 2nd circuit.  Surely this can’t be true.  Surely Ovo wouldn’t do this to their customers.  Or would they?

As of yesterday, we’ve been experiencing a couple of odd things involving one or two of the old lights being dim, slight flickering, and the bathroom fan being slow before today it not starting at all and the washing machine complaining of a power issue.Surprised to find that the newer electricity meter installed by OVO self-reports supply voltage and it’s a shock; down varying between 185-200V! Have attached pictures of what it shows.We’ve checked the reading when the consumer unit is turned off (so there’s no load on the supply) and there is no change. I understand that this is well below what is expected and should count as a power cut.Just to wonder if anyone’s experienced this before, and if I should go straight to the distributor (UK Power Networks in my case) rather than speaking to OVO at all? 

Hi, I’ve had problem with no meter readings being sent since start of December . OVO sent engineer, he replaced both meters 24th January. Gas meter readings being sent ok, but not electricity readings. Phoned OVO , said I must wait 6 weeks to see if it miraculously sorts itself. I said , no electricity smart meter readings sent since early December. Also I’ve lost out on Powersave, as they don’t have the readings. Anyone help ? 

We have a 3 phase supply to our house and would like to have a 3 phase smart meter installed.I saw various discussions on the ovo forum regarding people having 3 phase smart meters installed so I decided to give OVO a call.. I was told on the phone that they do supply 3 phase smart meters and that I could have one. I made the switch from Birtish Gas and now that im a customer I’m being told that OVO do not supply 3 phase smart meters?! Customer support said that an engineer can wire a single phase smart meter... I’d have thought that we have a 3 phase supply for a reason and chucking everything onto a single phase might not be the best idea? Any input would be greatly appreaciated.

Hello,I spend most of the year in Canada but have a holiday property on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I have been paying a standing charge of £29 a month for electricityeven though the house is vacant. I can just about handle that, but recently OVO has been mumbling about raising charges to £92 a month! One problem I have is finding someone to read the meter when I’m away. Someone suggested I get a ‘smart meter’. My questions are:-Would that be a fair, wise and economical choice?-Is there a fee to install a ‘smart meter’? James.   *edited by moderator*  

Does your smart meter have to be plugged in all the time? I turn the display thing off sometimes to plug other things in. Will this affect OVO getting my readings? Thanks

I had to submit my meter readings manually after my smart meter decided to just not send them anymore. I was unable to enter the readings online so contacted the web chat advisor. He asked me to take photographs of the meter readings due to them not sounding correct. I then received an updated bill stating I needed to up my DD to £1038 a month from £191 I usually pay. I'm absolutely shocked and definitely can't afford this. My usage is stating that I used over 7000kw of gas in January. My January 16th meter reading was 07935 KW (sent by smart meter), today's reading is 90302kw. I barely put the heating on and my smart meter shows I use around £7 a day on gas and electric (electric is always higher than gas in my house). What do I need to do now? Surely this is an error on my meter?
