Smart meters

Location ShetlandSmart meter (SKU2 celluar + mesh) fitted last Friday, 06/06/25.  Got electricity BUT it's not communicating with storage heater & immersion heater circuit 🤔Was told by OVO everything is working 'fine' and to get an electrician (at my cost) to check things over.Electrician has established all is working as it should, so back to OVO. Now they are arranging an 'emergency' appointment for an engineer, who will have to come from the mainland. This will only be arranged on Monday now, due to my remote location.Have to use the water heater boost to get hot water and I have no heating. Just as well it's not the middle of winter.I believe my issue could be due to a misconfiguration. From looking at info on the OVO forum, there may be a command that can reset the meter and yhos could be done remotely?!Anyone else had similar issues and have any tips/advice I can relay, so I can get this resolved.  HI,I am not a customer of OVO but this the best forum I have found and felt that I could get the instructions I need.Originally Scottish Power installed the Smart Meter SGC1311 (believed to be SMETS1), both Elec & Gas were linked.  The IHD3 worked for just a few weeks and for no reason, stopped displaying data.I now have an account with British Gas and they confirm that they are receiving both meter reading, but have so far been unable to help me with this issue.The IHD3 (black frame) remains idle with no data.  Notice that the WAN and HAN are alive, but it seem that it is not linked to the SM.  I would very much appreciate it if anyone can give me the steps for linking or the contact of a Technician that can.Unit is powered OFF 

As per the title my IHD and gas meter are displaying a stupid amount of gas usage (£2302)for the first three weeks of this month. (My total gas usage for May was only £16) In fact £2000 would be approximately 4 years gas usage for my two bed semi detached bungalow. My online account details show a figure which is as expected of £5.13 gas usage for this month.  why such a discrepancy ? also my online account shows readings of 5719 have been sent on 20th 21st and 22nd Juneyet my Ihd and meter display 63769.440 under meter reading.i tried querying with online chat only to be told that consumption varies and basically the meter is a smart meter and will be correct.  Fair enough if the meter is sending in accurate readings,  but if Ovo were to manually read my meter or ask for a manual reading they’d be getting the much higher read.  I did ask if the reading on the IHD is converted at some point to the reading they use the

Hello, I would like to get a smart meter installed but my house (mid-terrace) apparently has a 3-phase supply, 1 phase each for me and my neighbour on either side. I was told by a different supplier before that they would have to visist my neighbours’ houses to turn off their elecytricity for installation and I would basically have to make sure that they are both in for an appointment. This is near impossible as one of my neighbours is hardly ever in, especially during the day. I did get a new fusebox a while ago and there were no issues at all with cutting the power for installation. Is this doable without my neighbours having to be in?Thanks

Hello all,I have a new smart meter installed to replace two very old meters recently. After the installation, I realised that the hot water tank (again old style) couldn’t be turn on as it was during the peak time. Also the engineer at site said this would’ve always been the case which I didn’t understand. Because with the two old meters (one peak and one off-peak), I was able to turn on and off the hot water anytime I wanted manually. Now I feel like that I lose my control over the hot water, and it messed up with my lifestyle. I thought to have the economy 9 plan it would be cheaper to turn on the hot water at off-peak hours but didn’t know I won’t be able to turn on when outside the hours. So this is really not the plan for me.I’ve contacted OVO a few times already regarding this issue, as before the new meter it was completely fine, so clearly the new meter stops the hot water to be on when it’s peak time.OVO responses vary, some said to change economy 9 to flat-ra

Hi - new to this forum - first question here….We are currently building a new house and would need to get a meter (ideally smart) installed.We have a 3 phase 200A incoming supply with a solar array (31 Kwp) with 3x Tesla power walls on the system.   The supply is a single family dwelling, domestic house only.The electricity provider (SSE) is bringing power to our plant room and providing a cut out where the new meter should be installed. Is this something OVO can assist with please?   Thanks very much.

I am trying to get a smart meter installed but was told when they attended that there was a problem with the earth wire so couldn't install it. I rent so reported what was said to my landlord & they sent an electrician but I was told that uk power network would contact me but I never heard from them. I really have no idea and don't want to book another insulation just for the same thing to happen again. Anyone able to tell me what the problem it please. .

Good evening,I had my smart meter installed Monday.Since then I don’t have hot water or heating (storage heaters).I found out yesterday as for personal reason myself and my kids we weren’t home.i thought it might be because electricity was out and a reset my thermostat program but still not working. im calling ovo tomorrow first thing in the morning, but after reading some comments I just would like to ask to any of the members if is anything I should say to ovo for them to fix my problem as soon as possible?thank you in advance 

Several years ago OVO fitted two “Smart” meters and ever since then I have been unable to physically read the figures on the gas meter. The reason for this is because the meter is in a box in the ground and the “window” with the figures is pressed up against the side of the meter box.Assuming they exist, I need a meter that has the display at the top.Gas meters enclosed in a box in the ground are not unique but the inability to supply a meter reading scuppered my move to another Energy supplier a few years ago.OVO refused to change it because it was not faulty.The meters are several years old now & there is a black box (Zigbee?) plugged into the router to send readings to OVO. So can my elderly “Smart” meters be read by other Energy providers these days?I did read it was coming but that not all “Smart” meters are compatible.

Hi, I’ve recently had some Solar panels fitted and I need to take an export reading for my SEG application. I have a Landis+Gyr E470 SMETS1 with a Trilliant comms hub identicle to this one:I’ve read a couple of guides online and tried to find the Export on this thing with no luck. Going through the menu I get;TimeDateCredit ModeStanding ChargeTotal Act ImportRate 01 Act ImportMeter Balance Anyone know what I have to do or is it not possible with this thing?

Smart meter might be doing an update, the IHD has changed from, showing some stuff, to saying waiting, is that due to an update of some type being in process ? Power also went off for a few seconds at the same time as this new message appeared, coincidence, or expected behaviour ?Smart meter was recently installed, so assume it might be doing some kind of update after a few weeks.

I have read about Smartmeter to Comms hub flying leads recently that resolve possible signal issues.Is Kaifa the only Smartmeter that you fit these flying lead to and does OVO supply both for new Northern UK installations ?

Has anyone successfully moved to Economy 10 with OVO and was your experience?A few weeks ago I received an email from OVO about the removal of the RTS signal and suggesting I book an appointment to replace my meter. I was a THTC customer so I chose Economy 10 and booked the appointment.Six days ago the new meter was installed with an In House Display (IHD). The IHD is operating in accordance with the Economy 10 tariff but the meter is supplying power according to Economy 7 times, i.e. power comes to my storage heaters between 01.00 and 07.00 but I am being charged the lower rate at Economy 10 time periods. That means I am being paying the higher rate to charge my storage heaters overnight (and it is getting cold in highland Scotland)OVO customer support first of all offered to re-program the meter in 6 weeks; they delay because they needed to wait until communication with the meter was established (?). I’m having issues with my electricity costing much much more (more than double) since switching from RTS complex (3phase) meter, thtc control set up to a five port smart meter (economy 10) Folk on other forums are mentioning that a seven port meter is what is needed for this set up to maintain full functionality. But OVO don’t seem to offer a seven port meter? Or do they and I’ve just not figured it out yet? 

Why has my smart meter stopped sending information to Ovo, it has now been a week ?what should I do?

  Hi can anyone identify what kind of meter is this? Ovo on the phone is insisting that it's a RTS meter... But they don't seem to know any details... They seem to want to change every meter to a smart meter.   I asked my landlord earlier in the year and they think this is not a RTS meter and thus should not be affected. It would be much appreciated if someone who actually recognizes this thing can give me some clarity.

I have moved to ovo from early May after moving into a new property and have been sending in regular meter readings for my gas because they are not automatically picked up, in the last 24 hours I have used no gas and my boiler is off but I have noticed the meter today has increased by 2 units, why is this if I haven't used any since previous meter reading was sent

I have an Aclara SGC 1311 and it has been beeping since credit ran out - credit was added within 5 minutes of running out but it has continued to beep the entire day. OVO say this is not an emergency and an engineer can only attend next week😩it is driving everyone crazy. Anyone know how to reset it? It only has an A and B button and I have tried pressing and holding them a million times😩any help much appreciated!!

We’ve had three meter change appointments, for two flats, with four needing upgrading in Oxford. All have a second night heating circuit switched from RTS. I’d love some help !. One OVO meter was changed successfully in a basement flat, (thanks OVO). For one flat above this, which should therefore have better radio reception, two installers have come, said a smart meter wont work, and haven’t brought an option. Appointments are taking a month at a time.So my first question is: if they install the ‘Legacy Meter’ offered, can it definately switch the second circuit night rate power on/off overnight with no radio ?. Cant find this info on the forum anywhere.Meanwhile, the fourth flat uses Octopus, who have just not replied to 2 requests, and I’m not able to phone them as a landlord. While the third flat (basement) has 2 phases, so perhaps needs a different team of installers, equipped correctly ?…..any input very welcome, thanks !

So I had the Kaifa smart meter with domestic economy tariff installed 3 weeks ago. Now my water immersiand storage heaters only switch on between 12:30 and 1:30 am resulting in no hot water or heating. Engineer requested Ecaul and Alcs configuration from the remote team but there has been no change. Why does my meter ping off at 1am and overnight heating appliances stop working? 

Help please !My current E10 meter is classified as requiring to be replaced. I have found no electricity supply company saying they are able to provide a new E10 meter, smart or otherwise, AND for me to keep my exisitng E10 hours.Reading various feedback that seem positive, when contacting the electricity company the say they will only supply an overnight cheap rate.Would appreciate  any guidance please. Many thanks

Hoping someone can advise why I can’t get a smart meter installed.  Every time I check on the website I get this message:  This has been the case for about 6 months.  I speak to customer services on a regular basis, they’ve never been able to explain what the eligibility checks are, or which one(s) I’m failing.  They usually advise that there is an ‘issue’, but the exact issue changes each time I speak to them (lack of meters, poor signal, RTS priority customers, IT issue on their end, IT issue on my end etc etc).  I’m just outside Edinburgh, and most of my neighbours have smart meters installed and have no issues (none with OVO though) so I can’t understand the problem.This is my meter set-up:

Why do you need to send someone around to read a smart meter ?

Had a new smart meter fitted, right afterwards, our broadband ADSL wasn’t working and mobile phones, for 2 hours.Coincidence, or does the meter produce a burst of data when its first plugged in that swamps the local area with interference ?

I heard mention the other day that if you have a smart meter and are on an Economy 7 tariff and you want to change to a single rate tariff, that you need to have your storage heaters rewired, and you can’t just switch tariff’s like that, is this true ?
