In Home Display and how to initialise smart meter

Some Information!

Little did I know that when we had a smart meter fitted (not WAN but HAN 4G we live on Isle of Skye no WAN SIGNAL) that the "in home display" could do so much!

After storm Amey we lost power for 15 hours , when restored the smart meter had lost the link and we were asked for a manual reading which we got through the IHD.

Whilst going through the menu we came upon the message's part , in it was a message to initialise the smart meter . I did this and within moments it was all working again !

None of this was explained to us , just that there was a menu on the IHD . Now we find that this will be the case every time we have a power loss and restart . Also the book left with the IHD only show what the buttons are and gives no information on the menu or programs!  I think this needs to be addressed!

Luckily we are fairly computer literate and in truth the menu is good , but we struggled for a while.

Last piece of information , if you see a very small envelope icon on the top line of the IHD this is where the initialise message and tick box are .

Thanks for posting this, which may well help others new to the smart meter world.

I wonder if you could post a photo or two of your IHD - several different varieties have been distributed, so it would help to know what sort you’re using.

Just FYI: the WAN is the dedicated smart meter network we’re all connected to. Until earlier this year, users in Scotland (and Wales and England north of Manchester) had to connect to the WAN via long-range radio (LRR), whose range as you discovered is sometimes not quite long enough. The company responsible for it (DCC) only recently started granting permission for customers in areas not covered by LRR to be provided with communications hubs using cellular (4G) technology where coverage is adequate.

The HAN is a completely separate very short-range network using a completely different system (Zigbee) to connect smart meters with each other and with IHDs. It’s good to see that your smart communications are working as intended 🙂

Thankyou for your reply,  I may have been confused by the information supplied,  definitely NO WAN,  then referenced HAN , told definitely connected via 4G .

This is the only information on the IHT. which is a GEO TRIO II . Tells me there's a menu but no information about it. The envelope icon appears in the top area to the left of the word HOME . I have also noticed that 22.00 hours the whole screen goes dark , but by 07.00 it is back on full display. Haven't worked out if this is adjustable or not . Iwas also able to read the smart meter total on this unit through trial and error

News after trawling through the "interweb" I have found a definitive manual for the GEO TRIO II .

It is found under the "smartime "header,  there are other booklets but the smartime is a downloadable proper manual showing step by step instructions and information ! Good luck people.

Just to mention - the screen goes dark overnight due to Night Mode functionality, which is intended to make the device less of a distraction.

You can wake it up at anytime by pressing a button and it’ll light up immediately.

I have found a definitive manual for the GEO TRIO II … It is found under the "smartime" header,

I think you’re referring to the SmartMe website. A Geo Trio ii manual is here:
trioIITouchButtonuserManual.pdf

If you look at page 22, you’ll see under Display how to change the hours when the screen is dark (i.e. the backlight is off).
