Hey @Michael.hayward

I’m glad to see a couple of our volunteers have already stopped by with some really helpful advice for you on this.

The Landlord should be able to provide this kind of information, they are on the bills. As Nukecad mentioned, the Landlord will have had periods of time where they’ve been responsible, between tenants, for the gas and electric so they’ll have had an account for each as mentioned. This does mean they should have both the MPAN and MPRN available.

If you have trouble trying to gain this information, Blastoise186 mentioned the DNO, and while I understand the difficulty with the address not showing up it’s not impossible for them to find in other ways (I had this recently in my own new place so I too had to make sure to use the correct MPAN and MPRN when signing up so I do understand how frustrating this can be). If you’ve managed to gain the gas MPRN, does this show an address you could cross reference on the MPAN search for electric?

Do let us know how you get on with this.

Hi @Michael.hayward ,

Your best bet for that is to contact the DNO to get the electric MPAN - they can also tell you who the current supplier is.

For gas, you can grab the MPRN and supplier info via https://findmysupplier.energy

Once you know who it is, you’ll need to sign up with them before you can switch away.

Hope that helps!

The issue we have is the address does not show up on the database. It did before as the property has electric supply and the gas meter has debt owing from the previous tennant but it was empty for 12 months previous .

Have you asked the Landlord? (assuming that your daughter is a new tenant).

If the property has been stood empty for 12 months then the landlord will have been responsible for the electricity/gas use and standing charges during that Lettings Void.

So the accounts for both should currently be in the landlords name.

(What you say about a previous tenant owing for gas is slightly odd after 12 months - unless it’s actually the LL owing standing charges for the Lettings Void and not a previous tenant).
