Why does my online meter reading history now show whole numbers only?

On my online account, my Meter Readings History (from my smart meter) used to show readings to 3 decimal places. Now it only shows the whole numbers, with no decimal places. So I often get several days in a row with the same reding, as it can take that long to use one unit. Why has this changed? Is there something wrong with the display on my account? Or is my smart meter not sending in the full details?

Hey @paulman,

Welcome to the community.

If you take a look at your usage page, you'll notice that your usage appears as decimals, which show fractions of a unit. However, when it comes to billing, the readings are shown as whole numbers in the app as you're billed on whole numbers and not fractions of a unit.

Just hop into the usage area, and you should easily find the information you need. I’ve even included some helpful screenshots below to guide you on what to look for!

If you have any further questions please let us know!

Morning @paulman,

Did you manage to see the readings to the decimal places? Just to confirm, you need to click ‘Usage’ and then ‘View as table’.

I’m also including a guide here for how to use the Usage pages:

Thank you for your response. Just to be clear, I am not using the mobile app, I am logging in to the website and using the options there. And the Meter Readings History for Gas still gives me figures to 3 decimal places, as it always has done. But the Electricity readings (both Peak and Off-Peak) have no decimal places.

I have looked at the Usage area, and yes it does give daily usage figures that are more accurate, for both types of fuel. However, the Electricity usage is one combined figure, not separated into Peak and Off-Peak. So I still cannot get the data that I used to get, and which my own spreadsheets of previous data are based around.

So it still appears to me that the Meter Readings History for Electricity has changed for the worse, for no apparent reason. This seems strange when the Gas history is still as accurate as ever. I would just like to know why this change was made, and whether OVO would consider reversing it.

Interesting, and I can confirm that I see the same-

Thank you Nukecad, it’s good to get some support. So this is not just something wrong with my readings or my meter, it would appear to be a general issue.

It’s really odd that it’s one rule for gas and another for electricity. I also find it annoying that columns of figures aren’t aligned according to what I would regard as accepted norms.

I would expect either no leading/trailing zeroes or both, not the strange hybrid we see in your gas Reading column. I went to some lengths a couple of years ago to show that it is (a) possible and (b) quite simple to arrange for numbers to be displayed on OVO’s account pages in a way that makes it easier, for example, to add up a column of figures. My suggestions fell on deaf ears, apparently ...

I see it as simply further evidence of my long standing contention that gas is very much second fiddle at OVO.

They mess about with how electricity readings/usage/etc, is displayed but gas tends to be left alone for the most part.

(The recent ‘Help with Heating’ offer is a prime example of how parts of OVO don’t fully understan the supply and metering of gas.
Due to that lack of understanding what is ostensibly a gas usage promotion is actually more beneficial to electricity only users).
