Smart meters

Had a smart meter fitted Monday put my water heater on 1 to 4pm and no hot water 

We have a single phase 200 amp supply, which supplies several, all electric, holiday let cottages in Snowdonia.Our current supplier (and previous supplier too) wouldn’t listen to me and when they came to install our smart meter, sent out a normal engineer with a simple 100A meter.The first supplier said they couldn’t help us so we moved to Octopus, who after their failed installation have now given us the run around for the past 5 months. They tell me that they can install a 200A smart CT meter, that will give us access to the agile tariffs that we’re after, but that an external company has to do this (SMS) and that they have no free appointments in our area for the foreseeable future!If we moved to OVO would they be able to install us a 200A CT smart meter? I have read other informative threads on this forum, but they refer to polyphase or 3 phase supplies.Thanks in advance  

The Radio teleswitch (RTS) shutdown FAQ seems to say that the RTS meters may stop working at the end of 2023 (which is now less than 3 months away).  Is this correct or has the date been extended?  We have an RTS meter and are on the Superdeal tariff but have had no communication from OVO about this or what is happening.  Should I be worried?

Hi, I’m having terrible trouble with OVO. Only went with them as the previous householder used them.Firstly they didn’t set up an account when I phoned when first moving in - wondered why my direct debit hadn’t gone through weeks later. No record of my phone call, giving bank details, agreeing tariffs etc. Secondly they organised a new Smart meter last week and cancelled the day before as they can’t do it as I have economy 10. Nice guy phoned to explain that the customer care team don’t know what they are doing when it comes to accounts with two meters. That’s very true. Thirdly, I phoned today to ask for the ‘third party’ to come and fit a single meter (as the guy last week explained I should ask for) and after 20 mins the customer adviser didn’t have any idea what I was talking about. She said I had to phone DNO?, wouldn’t explain who DNO are and then cut me off. Please help! OVO is driving me bonkers :) 

Kaifa M120 displays Rates 1 and 2 for Economy 7 Metering, OVO are invoicing the 2 rates separately but IHD3 only shows 1 rate? How can I see both rates on my IHD3 as I was told I would?  Can anyone help?

Hi there, I had a smart meter installed about a month ago. In the last couple of weeks the lights in the apartment have started flickering, particularly when power-hungry devices (e.g. kettle, microwave) are used. Over the last week or so this has got worse, and now occurs even when no appliances are in use. An electrician came today and couldn’t find any potential causes, but isn’t allowed to look inside the smart meter because it’s property of OVO. I contacted OVO this afternoon and they’re not able to send anyone out to resolve this worsening issue for the next 3.5 weeks.  Is this issue common with smart meters? Are there any potential solutions to this in the short term?Many thanks!

Hi All,I recently had a 3 phase SMETS2 meter installed - a Kaifa MA329B.I have solar PV panels on the roof and previously found it useful and easy to look at my ancient meter with a wheel to determine how the PV was doing. i.e. The wheel would obviously be stationary when I wasn’t importing any electricity.With the new meter it seems not so easy to determine whether I’m importing or exporting at any given moment. I’ve noticed on the right of the LCD screen a “J” symbol with an arrow next to it. The arrow points in one of 8 directions, but I think when I’m steadily importing electricity, the arrow is pointing Right → and when exporting it points Left ← .Am I correct in the above ? Any idea what the other 6 arrow positions mean ?Thanks, Robbie.

Hi, I was looking through my annual usage and saw my gas was 27,000kwh a year. I live in a three bed terraced house. 2 adults, 3 kids. The heating is on in the winter months but come spring/summer and most of autumn it's not used at all. The only thing we have gas in the house is the heating. Does this seem a high usage? Thanks 

Logged on to MyOvo on laptop this morning to find the following...Home page - under "Your meter readings" shows "We couldn't get a reading from your smart meter. Mind sending one manually?" Last reading was 21st May i.e. the reading used for the final reading of my latest billClick on Meter readings from left hand menu on home page and get "Your electricity smart meter is sending us readings automatically, so you don't need to do anything."So I have a mismatch on the information being shown by the website Latest bill was 21st April - 20th May 2024 so readings lost after bill production - odd???The usage for May shows estimates for 21-24 May inclusive Meter shows green for SW, WAN & HAN so pretty sure my meter is reachable and functioning, internal display working fine.Not had any issues with readings being sent since a similar issue was fixed after about 6-8 weeks dela

I arranged for smart meters to be installed. great. engineer really good and helpful. Couldn't fit electric due to meter being too old - asbestos fuses. was told that Scottish Power would contact me in order to change meter. Still waiting , no correspondence, no contact by phone, how do I find out what is happening

Please could someone post a photo of an export meter.I’m about to get a battery installed but I won’t be getting solar at the same time. The export meter seems to be associated with the solar, so that’s not coming yet. I could however charge the battery at off peak import rates and export at high peak rates, not with OVO unfortunately but Octopus do offer this... 

My new smart meter is not sending data to the DCC. It was installed in Feb 24 and has sent data from 1st April (but not prior) and then stopped on 9th May. The WAN light still flashes every 5 seconds so I cannot understand why it isn’t communicating. The HAN light also flashes every 5 seconds and I can see live data from meter. I am on Octopus and they want to remove me from their EV tariff. Can anyone explain why this would not be communicating data and what I can do about it?  Grateful for any help. 

Hi,We asked Ovo for an IHD well over a year ago and were advised one would be sent when Ovo had a suitable model back in stock, unfortunately nothing has ever arrived.However we have been given an unwanted Scottish Power Chameleon IHD3-PPMID-V3 (from a different address/account), can this be paired with our SMETS1 meters (Landis Gyr E470/G470, Trilliant SEAP-2001-V)?Thanks

I moved to OVO on the 17th April. I was previously with British Gas and I have a SMETS1 Smart Meter. How long do I need to wait until I can get a SMETS2 meter installed?

Hi. I am new to the forum. I have been with OVO for 10 months and I have had 2 SMETS2 meters fitted not long after I moved to OVO. Unfortunately, the system has never worked properly since installation ! What used to happen intermittently was one of 2 scenarios: The WAN light used to go off and my smart meter would stop sending my meter readings to OVO or the HAN light used to go off and my IHD would stop working with the message "waiting for current data"  being displayed. Last week all 4 lights (including the WAN and HAN lights) continued to work on the meter (they all flashed on once every 4 or 5 seconds) and yet my IHD stopped working which had never happened before whilst all 4 lights were working !? A couple of days ago the IHD came back on again but despite all 4 lights still displaying on the meter, my meter readings don't update on the OVO app. How is this ?  I thought

On return from holiday, I noted that gas usage was indicated when there had been no demand.  Subsequent checks, after a no-fault leak test, confirmed that with no demand, gas usage of nearly 0.5 cu. m. per day is being registered.  Postings on Money Saving Expert’s forum (Gas Meter Still Increasing Whilst Gas Isolated) refers) triggered me to wonder whether my meter could also be incrementing when the gas supply is isolated - and it is!The meter is a Landis & Gyr Libra 310P.  The meter label appears to show an installation date of 2011, and after the cu. m. consumption display, the character ‘F’ is displayed. I would be interested to know what the ‘F’ indicates?L&G Libra 310PI intend to put in a complaint to Ovo Energy and would welcome any observations, guidance, etc.  I’m guessing that the battery would

New gas and electricity meters installed in London SW15 on Thursday but not commissioned. Phoned OVO on Thursday morning as requested by Lee (the installer) and was told I would be phoned back in 24 hours, but this hasn’t happened. Have tried to fill in the form for smart meter problems on the app and put in the serial numbers but it responds by saying these aren’t recognised and that I should phone. This means waiting until Monday. I am really disappointed by the lack of response to my request which is made worse by my not being able to get through now. The serial numbers are 22L4******7 and G4F2212******0. Please advise on the best way of getting this problem solved.

It is vitally important that electricity meters record accurately; meter readings form the basis for billing, so inaccurate readings will have financial consequences for both buyer and seller - customer and supplier. Meters have to be certified by the manufacturer to achieve a certain minimum degree of accuracy, and customers can usually assume that their meters are recording their usage with an accuracy of better than ±1%.Customers with multi-rate tariffs like Economy 7 or Economy 10 have also to be confident that the readings on which their peak/offpeak usage is based are also accurate. There has been some doubt about this, so I checked my own experience.Many OVO customers have been partaking in the Power Move scheme, encouraging us to shift consumption out of the period of highest demand into periods of lower demand. Hi there,The previous occupants, as OVO customers themselves, left their smart meter for my use. My heating bill is astronomical. Is there any way the smart meter could be contributing? It's a Trio 11? Am I entitled to ask for a new smart meter of my own to ensure it is performing accurately?Thanks!

Hi, first post.I had a smart meter fitted by EDF a couple of years ago.  It’s definitely SMETS2.  It interfered with my wifi network, but it did work well, for a few days.I complained to EDF about my wifi and they came out and turned the meters dumb - they’ve been like that since.I’m now being told by my current supplier that meters in dumb mode cannot be switched back to smart mode and they need to be replaced.  The meters can’t be replaced as nobody can get hold of them apparently so they won’t come out.Trouble is, I’m absolutely desperate to get them back to being smart again - I have an EV and want to get on a dual rate tariff, otherwise the car will cost more than petrol to run soon!I’m not buying the answer that it’s impossible to make ‘dumb’ meters smart again - so is it true?!Thanks!

I think I have a Smets 1 smart meter, fitted over 2 years ago. The IHD I received with it, never worked. Since then I've asked many times, if I can have a replacement. I get told that there is a problem obtaining new units (over 2 years!?) The last conversation said I was on a list to get one. I also  got promised an update, which I never got.  I've heard now that I might not get an IHD until I get an upgraded smart meter? Anybody in the same boat as me? Anybody from OVO care to comment?

We are having a 3 phase meter being installed for an electric boiler. I wanted to know if the meter is a smart meter and will it be compatible with our solar panelsfor the export readings ?
