I am posting on behalf of my partner. He moved into his flat Jan 2023. The day he moved in, he set up the account with Ovo along with a direct debit. Fast forward to now and he’s realised that the direct debit has never come out. He’s now contacted Ovo and they have said that the day after he set the account up, the letting agent have cancelled it and put the land lady’s details. The account is currently at £1100. Now, obviously he should have noticed this lack of monthly payment. Ovo have said that he needs to contact the letting agent to ask what happened but they are dodging calls and are not giving answers. My main concern is regarding the mortgage application we will be making in a few months. As this has not been paid and we do not know if it has gone to debt collection, will this have an impact on his record if the land lady contacts Ovo to say that he is the one living in the flat and liable for the bill? If he rings to pay the account off tomorrow, will that be the end of it o

Hi all,We have just recently moved into a property where the electric was a pay as you go meter and the gas a credit meter.. So the two were set up as separate accounts, since then we have had both meters changed to smart meters and the electric to a credit meter. On the OVO app it shows the two accounts but the electric account still shows as the pay as you go account and prompts me to download the OVO top up app. So I have no way of knowing my electric usage. Also we have two separate direct debits set up one for each account. And would like the two accounts to be linked a pay just one direct debit.I have tried to call and get the two linked but I seem to be getting nowhere. Anyone have any ideas of whom I should be calling to get this sorted? Cheers.

I called and reported a bereavement at my dad’s property in June. Spoke to a lovely lady who refunded incorrect charges and assured me no further standing charges will be made as long as no energy is used/No one is at the property.Today I received a bill, logged in and see not only standing charges billed every month since June, but estimated usage too (despite speaking to the bereavement team)Called again today, spoke to Michael, who said I will received standing charges, but no usage costs, and to ignore it all until the property is sold!So, who is correct? the original lady I spoke to or Michael?Should the property still be incurring monthly standing charges for both Gas and Electricity? Appreciate any advise received - Thanks

The usage on my app is telling me in September I’ve used as much kw|h as I do for the whole year. OVOare telling me it’s a bug but at the same time trying to increase my DD. Also apparently they can’t see it on their computers. I’m very concerned this is going to cost me money. 

How do I claim a bill reduction for medical (dialysis) apparatus that has to be on all the time? 

My home is in an area where smart meters do not communicate with the WAN. All the EV tariffs I can find state you must have a smart meter to be able to get the tariff. However, my husband read somewhere that it is possible to use an OVO compatible smart charger to access OVO Charge Anytime because the charger can send charging data directly to the owner's OVO online account. Can anyone confirm this is true? We really need to access an EV Tariff without having a working smart meter.

HiCant believe its December already!Planning ahead (is setting up my nerdy tracking spreadsheet 😬) I’ve been trying to confirm that Christmas Day and Boxing Day will be exempt from the Power Move again this year. I was also wondering if they would count towards off peak time as weekends are this time.

Hi there, I appreciate this has probably been asked and answered many times, but I've just topped up my Ovo card, inserted into my meter and the gas valve hasn't opened. There's £58 on the meter, the meter says ON B3, but I've got no supply. This hasn't happened before, it usually opens after a few seconds. I was directed by the Chat Bot to call 0800 111999 and they hung up on me. I'm working a late shift tomorrow and I'm not going to be able to get anything done now until after Christmas.  It's quite an old meter. I've attached a photo of it. Is there a procedure to get the gas valve to open? Thanks.  Chris  

Hi There,Bit of an odd one here.Used gas last night as per usual no problem but came into house early tonight (23rd) and no gas throughout house.Checked with neighbours and their supply was ok so tried to contact OVO but it was shut.Went outside to check gas meter and the display was blank so in desperation turned off stop valve and pressed the red and black buttons several times and opened the valve again.Eventually the display lit up with the message "opening valve " and then the display returned to a normal setting.I went back into house and the gas supply was as back.Is this normal as I know electricity trips but gas and is it likely to happen again and is it safe.Any explanations would be greatThanks in advance

Hello, I have just moved to a house where OVO provides the energy to and I have a problem. I need to ask OVO to update the records in national gas meter database. My gas meter serial number (MSN) is not added to the database. Only the current gas provider can update it. How can I have it sorted out and how long would it take? Thank you, Slav

My smart meter appears to have stopped sending data/readings to Octopus as of 10 days ago.  It was installed 5 years ago and always worked fine.  The WAN light still flashes every 5 seconds so I cannot understand why it isn’t communicating. Octopus have suggested an engineer attend to conduct a “power cycle” but this won’t be for another month. Can anyone explain why this would not be communicating data and if there is anything I can do about it?  And if there is anyway to ensure meter readings data is captured to prevent me being charged a flat rate instead of the Octopus smart rate (I’m on Intelligent Go).  Thank you 

Did anyone else get a power move flex email today notifying of a power down for 02 November, 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM??As the invites usually come in at some point on the previous day to the event, I’m wondering if there’s  a power down (or up) tomorrow?? Did anyone else get a power move flex email today? 

Hello! I own a Mitsubishi Ecodan 14kW and the display shows ‘INVALID’ when selecting Delivered Energy. It runs ok, it records Consumed Energy. I remember that in the past the section showed some calculated values. Please see the right column, the second icon with battery with value 4321kWh. I have all the sensors, including external boiler (that did never needed to start)Can anyone advise there to look ?A picture from the book, just as an example is below. Thank you in advance for any suggestion 

We are undergoing a renovation and going forward, my old pre-payment meter is going to be replaced with a smart meter. I have £186 od credit on my pre-paymeny meter, which I obviously don't want to lose in the change over. Can Ovo guarantee that credit won't be lost in the change to a smart meter?  

Hi everyone. I was with SSE at my old address, moved into my partner's March 2022 and we moved to a bigger house together in August 2022.New Tenants moved straight into my old house August 2022, I gave final meter readings over the phone as I've always done when I moved and thought nothing else of it.Then in February 2024 around (18) months after I moved out, OVO said I owed £1800 July 2022- March 2023, I sent them loads of evidence to show I wasn't living there at that time by showing full tenancy agreement at new address, estate agents confirming I was, driving licence at new address, Council tax letter, HMRC and doctors letters at new address, also Octopus confirming I was with them at that time at new address and proving someone else was living their at that time, yet OVO said none of this is proof and continued with debt collection LCS and Solicitor, my question is, is it normal that OVO do not accept any of the above as proof of address?

I’m interested in knowing if and when Ovo Energy may be signing up with Ripple Energy as a supply partner.  I’m keen to join Ovo Enery, especially their EV Tariff, but I have shares in Ripple Energy and am therefore limited to subscribing to one of their supply partners.  Do Ovo Energy have plans to become a partner with Ripple Energy and if so, when?

we have gas central heating controlled by standard thermostats with heating timers. since our smart meters were installed on friday our heating will not go off, its ignoring the timers and thermostats, its costing a fortune. any help gratefully received.

I didn't think it was possible to view meter balance/s on the top-up app, however on the app store, some of the reviews say they are able to see their balances. I cannot seem to see mine on the top-up app?

Hi , I'm hoping for any assistance I can get with my pay as you go kaifa smart meter. Firstly I noticed the IHD stopped giving electricity info 10 days ago. Contacted ovo by web chat and the assistant said they had "unjoined and rejoined" meanwhile I had to switch the IHD off for 30 mins. This didn't work so Immediately started another chat ,told by another assistant that the IHD should be switched off for 24hrs. Didn't work either. Wondered if by any chance I could find out what credit I had or perhaps top up by the meter itself so I had a look (it's outside the property ) and found the display only showing inaccurate local time. Didn't shuffle through any screens only showed me the wrong time. Got no reaction from any of the buttons but the lights were flashing every 5 secs. Started another chat with ovo, established that the electricity meter wasn't communicating with either of us and that I wouldn't see an engineer till end of Feb at the earliest unless I'm out of credit. I have just received a letter from a collections agency regarding my old SSE account.when i joined OVO it seems my account was migrated to them with an enormous debt.this is all new to me, i had a PAYG meter and have for years,i was always led to beleive that any debt incurred would be included in my weekly top ups!!In trying to contact collections at OVO they are useless.they pass your problem around and then put the phone down,i want to talk to someone who can really help!!!!any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I don’t like Direct Debit because I’ve had bad experiences with trying to get refunds for over-charges. I’m a 73 year old pensioner who has managed his monthly payments for the last 55 years, so don’t need anyone to manage if for me. The (electricity only) Simpler plan I’m on attracts higher tariffs and while I disagree with the reasoning, I have to accept that this is the way things are done. I was very impressed with the Power Move Summer Challenge, and while my household doesn’t use a lot of electricity, we strived to move what we could to off-peak. I just received a confirmation email that my efforts resulted in me being within the top 10% of customers who took part, and was eagerly looking forward to the winter challenge to see how much saving I could accumulate. However, I just discovered that Power Move is now restricted to only Direct Debit Customers, so I am out. When I first moved to OVO, I didn’t have an IHD, but now that I do, I’ve figured out why my usage seemed so strange. I have an electric boiler, and I’ve noticed it uses electricity even when I’m not using hot water or heating. Sometimes it runs for hours, and other times just for about few minutes. The usage varies between 3kWh and 6kWh. Is this normal for an electric boiler, or could there be something wrong with it?

On the app my Power Move peak average showed at 4.14% at the end of October, but with a reduced credit of £11.61 for some unknown reason. I've received no end of month email and no credit shows on the to date November details either. Anyone else having this problem?
