Product Recall: AltHAN Devices

Hi!This is an important announcement. Please note that it has been written by a Forum Volunteer and is his personal views. This announcement was not vetted by OVO prior to posting due to the need to ensure your safety which takes priority.What’s wrong?@Blastoise186 has been informed by his industry contacts that there is a fault with the AltHAN Devices used in a small number of installs. The nature of the fault is that the device becomes dangerous if anything else is plugged into it. This ONLY affects you if you have AltHAN - if you’re NOT using this e.g. you’ve got a Dual-Band Comms Hub, you’re NOT affected.The nature of the fault is that the Earth Pin on the Plug-Through Socket isn’t working properly. The device itself is safe as long as you don’t plug anything into the socket on the front.What should I do?If you have an AltHAN Device and you have anything plugged into the “plug-through” socket, PLEASE TURN THAT DEVICE OFF AND UNPLUG IT IMMEDIATELY. Smart meter not sending reads + IHD not connected?

Hello, I have been living in this flat for a couple of months and so far there have been no issues with the smart meter and the IHD until this long weekend.I have a Landis+Gyr E470 SMETS2 and a Geo IHD here. They look exactly like the pictures here (without the gas meter):A few days ago I noticed the clock on the IHD became 15-20 minutes slower. Yesterday it showed something like “no data” so I power cycled the IHD and then it is stuck with connecting to the meter. It is reporting the 22-0 and 28-2 codes when I check the status.I checked the comms hub and the SW, WAN and HAN lights are flashing every 5 seconds but OVO is not receiving the reads and is asking me to manually enter them.May I know is there anything I can do on my side before reaching the support? Thank you!

How do I get an updated IHD?

Good Afternoon, I am looking for some advice. So I had a smart meter installed on the 20th Aug 2024. And to my disappointment I received an IHD3, I am pay monthly direct debit. So not prepay version. I'm very computer savvy as such. I have emailed twice to complaints department asking why I did not receive the newer IHD6. As in there home user booklet. And I feel I am being fobbed off, With emails from OVO saying that that the above mentioned is perfectly fine and compatible. And unfortunately thats basically what we are giving out. I understand that the IHD3 I have is as they say. All you need!! How do I get a more upto date version? At least a new improved IHD6 or an IHD7. Do I have to buy one? And can the home user activate it? Many Thanks Mark...🤙

is there any point in my having a smart meter installed as there is no mobile signal from any network where I live? Can smart meters communicate over WiFi or WiFi Calling for example?

Why isn't my smart meter communicating?

Hi, I'd be grateful someone knowledgeable in smart meters could provide any insight into what could be the problem with my smart meter. After having it initially installed I had to have an engineer come back and install an aerial. Since then I have all 5 green led lights flash every 5 seconds which I believe means the smart meter is working how it should be and is communicating. Despite this EDF is saying they can't read my meter. I will be looking to move to OVO once my 3 year fix deal finishes in September as I want to benefit from the EV tariff they have and I'm keen to get this problem resolved before doing this. If I input my details into the n3rgy website I get no obvious errors other than 'No Export MPAN configured' and 'warning device configuration has not been completed - whitelisted'. Are there any generic reasons why they can't read my meter? Does the green flashing led every 5 seconds definitely mean there is a connection? If that's the case why can't they read the meter?

Why can't my supplier resolve my smart meter Wide-Area-Network (WAN) signal issues?

Who has a SSE or OVO installed smart meter that doesn’t work and more significantly has NEVER worked? Succumbing to promotional pressure and keen to save/monitor my electricity usage, I had one installed 3.5 years ago — and it never worked from the off, save after a few months to provide exactly the same as the old one. After complaints and taking the matter to the ombudsman service (upheld on all counts and resolved with goodwill and indefinite pledges to sort out the issue). That was 20 months ago and there’s been zilch in action or communication since. Now that OVO is running the show, we will see what happens. I have no information on whether my situation is unique or common and why this is so, except that it is largely a government communications agency’s fault (DCC). Hence my question. I am in a small town in the northeast of Scotland, where everything else digital works just fine - with, as far as I know, three SSE electricity sub-stations and three digital/telecoms masts within

Can my smart meter display my solar panel export amount?

Have recently had solar panels installed and although I can check how much I am exporting via the main electricity smart meter I cannot see how I can see this info on my smart meter display - apparently I should see a pylon icon - have I got an old display (photo attached). Thanks.

Need help setting solis inverter, it won't stay on over night even thought it's set to the 24hour function?

I have a solar inverter installed with acrel dtsd1352 smart meter connected at grid site, however when i choose the consumption monitoring option from the inverter, the app stops showing me the load, import and export information. The inverter also turns off during the night even though i have the 24 hour function enabled. The only fix i have found is choosing the meter in grid option instead. However the load shown now is actually the average power across the 3 phases and hence shows wrong values of export as well. Why is the consumption monitoring option not working as intended, and is there a way i can connect the dtsd1352 meter to soliscloud?

Constant Blue Light on IHD Malfunction or?

We have recently moved supplier and have electricity on a credit tariff and our gas on PAYG. Usually the meter will show the standard three usage lights Green/ Amber and Red to show our energy usage, but all of a sudden it has lately being switching to a solid blue light (see image below) and the only way to return it to the standard usage lights, is to reboot the IHD, but his only works for a day or two before the blue light comes back. Is this a fault with the IHD? As you can see, it is still the same IHD that came with the original smart meter that we had installed (and still have) when we switched to a smart meter with our old supplier

Message icon showing on IHD3- How do I access the message?

We had new smart meters installed on Tuesday and a IHD3 box and yesterday a small envelope icon and display showing new message appeared. Does anyone know how to display message ... Tried tapping the icon but nothing happens.

Smart meter daily usage doesn't match IHD

We have the smart meter installed few months ago, I always keep an eye on the cost of the electricity we have used by midnight till the meter switch off automatically, it not matching with the daily usage in the BillsI do consider the standard daily charge which is: (00:64P)to be honest I did switch everything off all day and night in the house, still £2:35 ???Also, Is the VAT included or excluded on the displayed cost of electricity, if excluded is it 5% ?if it is 5% still not matching.

200 amp single phase smart meter, can OVO do this?

We have a single phase 200 amp supply, which supplies several, all electric, holiday let cottages in Snowdonia.Our current supplier (and previous supplier too) wouldn’t listen to me and when they came to install our smart meter, sent out a normal engineer with a simple 100A meter.The first supplier said they couldn’t help us so we moved to Octopus, who after their failed installation have now given us the run around for the past 5 months. They tell me that they can install a 200A smart CT meter, that will give us access to the agile tariffs that we’re after, but that an external company has to do this (SMS) and that they have no free appointments in our area for the foreseeable future!If we moved to OVO would they be able to install us a 200A CT smart meter? I have read other informative threads on this forum, but they refer to polyphase or 3 phase supplies.Thanks in advance

When will RTS meters stop working?

The Radio teleswitch (RTS) shutdown FAQ seems to say that the RTS meters may stop working at the end of 2023 (which is now less than 3 months away). Is this correct or has the date been extended? We have an RTS meter and are on the Superdeal tariff but have had no communication from OVO about this or what is happening. Should I be worried?

Change of profile class prior to smart meter request?

I currently have a non smart, digital electric meter with day and night readings, albeit with a single rate. I’m about to request a smart meter and have been advised that if I want to only have to deal with a single reading I need to get my profile class changed from “02” to “01”. How do I go about getting this done and what order do I follow, eg, get the smart meter installed first then request the profile change or request the profile change first (or at the same time as getting the smart meter installed)?

Who to contact to have a single meter installed instead of two meters (getting rid of storage heaters)

Hi, I’m having terrible trouble with OVO. Only went with them as the previous householder used them.Firstly they didn’t set up an account when I phoned when first moving in - wondered why my direct debit hadn’t gone through weeks later. No record of my phone call, giving bank details, agreeing tariffs etc. Secondly they organised a new Smart meter last week and cancelled the day before as they can’t do it as I have economy 10. Nice guy phoned to explain that the customer care team don’t know what they are doing when it comes to accounts with two meters. That’s very true. Thirdly, I phoned today to ask for the ‘third party’ to come and fit a single meter (as the guy last week explained I should ask for) and after 20 mins the customer adviser didn’t have any idea what I was talking about. She said I had to phone DNO?, wouldn’t explain who DNO are and then cut me off. Please help! OVO is driving me bonkers :)

Installation of a CT 200/5 smart meter for a residence

We have built a new house and when it started out SES were our supplier. They specified 3 phase power at 200amp per phase requiring a CT 5 meter. Since the 26th March I have been unsuccessful in having one installed because a DO142 Flow form has not been submitted to the contractor who install this type of meter. Even the Advanved Resolution Specialists have been unable to get one issued or get any feed back from the Metering Team who supply the Flow instructions. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a solution? My email to the Ops Director has gone unanswered.

"Top-up Rejected" message, but I'm not on pre-payment so haven't attempted any top-up

I just noticed my IHD screen was lit up, so went over to have a look and found this message: Which is a bit of a surprise as I'm on the 1-year Fixed Loyalty plan and pay by Direct Debit.So of course I haven’t tried to make any kind of top up, and I don’t see how it’s even possible that anyone could make a mistake and try to top up my not-prepay meter?I will note that my DD was due yesterday so being a Saturday it won’t be taken until Monday, but that happens now and again and I’ve never had such a message before.Once I had closed that message there was no sign of anything else unusual anywhere on the IHD.Is anybody else getting strange messages today?

Upgraded smart meter not working correctly

I moved into property with all electric which had Smart meter 1 and economy 7 rate.Smart meter was upgraded to a version 2.I believe this was eventuallycommissioned two days later however since being fitted has not worked correctly.Instead of getting 7 hours off peak to heat water and storage heaters it comes on for 10 mins.I know this as boiler had been checked out and the boiler company tested how long off peak was being supplied.Ovo say its on the correct rate.This had been going on for nearly two weeks and despite an escalated complaint still getting no further forward.No one appears to understand what the issue is.Can anyone help.Thanks
