Smart meters

HelloLast week, my overnight water stopped heating up. Overnight general heating is fine but water just stopped suddenly. 2 electricians have looked at the issue and said it’s a smart meter issue.  ive spoken to OVO to resolve but they are making me wait for over a week to fix. I’ve got no hot water and a vulnerable customer (they know this).has anyone else had this before ? I had a similar issue when my smart meter was installed well over a year ago although both my heating and water heating went off. Tbilisi was resolved but this time it’s just my hot water.Any help would be wonderful. Really struggling here.  thank you 

I got smart meter installed in May 25, since then usage seems too high and now in winter months Dec to Jan usage is 8 times it was the same period in previous years.!!! Something must be wrong but I’m getting nowhere when I call OVO. Silly comments like it’s a smart meter it must be right and it will go up compared to summer as heating on. No one will listen to me that this is in comparison to the same periods in prior years. My house is all electric and I have storage heating. I suspect my new “smart meter” has not been set up right for storage heating. Where can I go from here? How can I get OVO to actually look into this and check my meter configuration etc and fix whatever the problem is. I’m absolutely  disgusted with the so called customer service line and this is causing a lot of stress and worry. My dec to Jan bill is £325 compared to this period prior years only £60-£70. I hand only 3 heaters on (same every winter) 2 large storage and one small dimplex. I need help please 🙏

Hi all, as pictures say, my reader hasn't been working properly for last couple of days. Have put fresh batteries in, kept it by electric smart meter inside building, as gas one is outside, for around 3 hours, to try and connect, but no avail. What to do please?

Can anyone tell me why I have gone from £20 electricity per week to £100 per week 2 pensioners and a cat in a 2 bed house usage is the same cook once a day laundry once/twice a week dont put the heating on as too scared,my smart meter is eating my pension help

Hi,Virtual wide area network smart meters are being sift launched in q1 2026 when will ovo start installing them.   

 Got notification both gas and electric meters stopped sending readings  back in November. Tried to ring to book engineer, that in itself was a nightmare as the wait for a response was terrible.  Tried live chat and was told an appointment was booked, turns out it was not, Tried live chat again(no phone credit so this was last resort), an agent actually called me back and an engineer did come. However, he fitted a new electric meter but same type as old one but that would not pick up any signals  either.It seems these meters  do not seem to work anymore. Due to  my health issues and where the meters are I cannot actually read them,  I just don’t know what to do as my bills are being estimated and that’s a problem in itself. Has anyone had this problem?   I spoke to neighbours who said when they had this problem their supplier realised the issue and new type meters were fitted. Why  hasn’t OVO done this?

It’s been a long story… Some while ago we were offered a SMETS1 smart meter, but we delayed until a SMETS2 was available. Then an engineer came to install a SMETS2 meter, and left saying something about no signal, leave it a while. The meter is in a lower ground floor area, with a mobile signal.Finally, July 2020, new SMETS2 meter installed - not talking to the network, but wait a bit and it’ll ‘probably’ be OK. No IHD left. I thought that even if the thing couldn’t talk to Ovo at least an IHD would allow me to read the meter easily, so I requested one, which eventually arrived. Silly me, I didn’t realise that the meter - supposedly installed for MY benefit - wouldn’t talk to my home network if it couldn’t talk to OVO first.After a while we got back to Ovo who said there was nothing they could do and we would have to move our meter, at our expense (approx £250) and hope the new position had a better signal. We had a smart meter installed a few months ago. We haven’t yet been given an in-home monitor, so have to refer to the meter itself.  On checking our usage today, I noticed the meter had stopped sending daily readings since 6th of this month, which coincides with a bad storm and power outage. On checking the meter in order to send manual readings, I noticed that there were three LED status lights and, at first, the green light was showing. There were also two buttons to the left of the screen, one green and the other grey. We took a note of the reading being displayed, but since we have both peak and off-peak rates, we waited to see if it would show the other reading but it didn’t, so we pressed the green button and the display went blank. After randomly pressing both buttons, we eventually got back to the original screen, but the LED light which had been green had now changed to blue, and we’ve no idea what this means.I’ve included a photo of these lights (

Looks like I have issues with my smart meter, it’s not sending data to Ovo.I have a smart meter health check booked for the end of the week,but in the meantime, what are the consequences.re: charging at home & receiving charge anytime credits & a little help with your heating credits ?Especially as my Ovo Charge app has missing data. Tom…

Here is an extract from the table showing my gas usage yesterday evening. As you can see, two values are recorded: 8.30pm and 9pm. If usage is recorded at 8.30pm, does this show what has been used between 8pm and 8.30pm or what has been used between 8.30pm and 9pm?

I moved into property with all electric which had Smart meter 1 and economy 7 rate.Smart meter was upgraded to a version 2.I believe this was eventuallycommissioned two days later however since being fitted has not worked correctly.Instead of getting 7 hours off peak to heat water and storage heaters it comes on for 10 mins.I know this as boiler had been checked out and the boiler company tested how long off peak was being supplied.Ovo say its on the correct rate.This had been going on for nearly two weeks and despite an escalated complaint still getting no further forward.No one appears to understand what the issue is.Can anyone help.Thanks  

I've had an unsolicited letter today (9/1/26) from Engage saying that my meter may not be working properly. Now I did have an old pay as you go key meter until June 2025, and it did stop working. OVO sent a letter. BUT I had a smart meter fitted later that month and since then apart from the signal dropping out occasionally (it always comes back) it's working fine. I've just topped up online via the website to check and the money went on straight away according to the hub. If there was an issue with the meter then surely the hub wouldn't register the payment, as the hub talks to the meter, not my bank card! All payments since June have gone through automatically including the £150 warm home discount. Everything is working fine! Is this just Engage having received an outdated list of old meter owners from OVO? I don't need this stress as I'm autistic and will overthink this massively.

When we have high demand in our house (like switching on a shower), the lights go dimmer. Recently our car charger has frequently stopped working saying there is a supply problem. I’ve just discovered that we can see the voltage on our smart meter, and it goes down as low as 190V.  The highest reading I’ve seen, with virtually nothing on, was 220V. We are in a very rural area. We have storage heating and when the meter was installed we were told it was a 3 phase supply. Does anyone know what’s going on? 

Does anyone know why my Aclara SMETS2 will stop working properly on 1st June 2026 and needs replacing?  It’s new and was only installed in April 2025. 

I had a smart meter installed. Chose economy 7 tariff as have storage heaters and water heated by thermostat on off peak. Since meter installed off peak does not work. Ovo sent an engineer who changed the meter. Still no off peak. Ovo then said they’d fix the problem remotely. They said it was successful but still no off peak. Now they are saying it must be to do with my wiring or configuration and they can’t do anything more. Now what am I supposed to do? No heating or hot water since July 28th.

I'm told I cannot have a smart meter beciase my standard meter is located outside Electric is in a white box and gas in a brown box I'm trying to get one as I would benifit greatly from one any ideas what can be done?

I have a SMETS1 meter (software upgraded to SMETS2). What happens now that 3G (mobile) has reached end of life? Can it be upgraded with a new SIM?

I have smart meters for both gas and electricity. However, neither is currently able to connect to OVO and hasn't done so for quite a while now. An engineer came to try to boost the signal but all his attempts failed. He said something about needing to wait for an additional bit of kit to be installed locally. How much longer do I have to wait? I really don't want to have to provide meter readings...I shouldn't have to with smart meters! 

I had a smart meter installed 2 weeks ago and since then my storage heaters and immersion element to heat up the water in a big cylinder tank are not working anymore. Both only run on off peak electricity. I have raised this with OVO, an emergency engineer, a commissioned engineer, came but couldn’t solve the problem. Since then I’m daily on the phone with OVO but nobody is able to help. I’ve raised a complaint, got a call from OVO and was told that my case is being looked into and I would get a call back. Nobody was ringing back. It’s very stressful to call daily, explain the same problem each time and not getting anywhere. I was even told by one operator that it’s my problem and not OVO’s.. It’s absolutely outrageous that an organisation like OVO is not able to rectify the problem. I wonder if someone had similar experience and can give advise how to handle the matter. Thank you

Hey forumengers, Past week or so Ive been having calls and have had two letters from SEEKA who just work on OVO’s behalf to get meter readings.I got a call on sunday, or at least some voicemails, so it seems I can read the number out over the phone. No?My account says the meter is working fine and last sent a message yesterday.My loop app is matching my IHD too… So why are they threatening me to force access for  a meter reading lmfao?My meter isnt in my home, they cant force entry either. Its a rental.Just wanting to hear other peoples experiences in this situation, I dont think its nefarious. They can put me back to PAYG remotely whenever they feel, Nothing I can do to stop that.

Many of those who are used to retrieving their usage data from third parties have noticed an interruption in the service recently.
