Why was my faulty meter replaced with an new Aclara meter which isn't smart? I was told it would be!

The clock on my very old economy 7 meter stopped working.  I informed Ovo and they arranged for a new meter - I was told it would be smart.  When the fitter left he told me it wasn’t smart.  Waited nearly 3 months for it.He mentioned economy 7 as an issue - but other threads say they are available.Can someone explain - I’m disappointed !!Has anyone else got a smart economy 7 meter ?Ovo customer for a lot of years

My Trio II In Home Display is showing high gas usage when no gas appliances are on?

We’ve just had gas and electricity smart meters installed.  The Trio II monitor display looks correct for the current electricity usage, with the needle moving as lights are switched on/off.  When the gas boiler was heating the water, the monitor was showing £0.99/hr, which I took to be ok.  But for some time after the boiler went off, (we heat the water for an hour at lunchtime), it continued to show current usage of £0.99/hr.  Then, it suddenly went up the £4.56/hr, even though the boiler was no longer running.  The central heating is not on, and our gas fire is hardly ever used.To be fair, the total amount spent for today has not risen over the last hour, so I’m comforted by that.  But I’m still concerned that the current usage display is still showing a high amount.Many thanks for any insights you can give.

Why is my British Gas Landis and Gyr (L & G) electricity smart meter beeping?

Hello,Landis+GYR E470 electricity meter beepingPlease please help! Day two of this darn meter beeping and I can't even escape it because I live in a small flat! It's 1.35am... this meter is driving me nuts!On the digital display thing I've also increased the budget as per one of the conversations on here. This hasn't worked... It's still beeping.I've had the smart meter for a couple of years with no problems. I genuinely don't understand how to stop the beeping.Who takes responsibility for the unit? British Gas installed it but I'm now with BULB.Please please make the beeping stop!Thanks,Nirmita

Smart Meters: are they reliable and safe?

Good evening.  Re Smart Meters.  I understand the theory behind them - and the “target date legislation”, but how problem free are they? I hear & read about a lot of issues e.g. long commissioning times, incorrect readings, only reading gas or electricity and not both, incorrect billing… So how reliable are these things?

Does the smart meter need to be plugged in all the time? As soon as I unplug mine it starts to beep practically straight away so is this the way they are meant to be? Cheers Jess

Can I get a SMETS2 installed, if I already have a SMETS1?

My Gas/Electricity plan is up for renewal… If I switch to OVO can I get a SMETS2 Smart Meter installed if I already have a SMETS1?My SMETS1 is effectively useless now and I want to get it replaced with a SMETS2 so I can stop doing manual readings.

Smart meter economy 7 off peak times change with Eon - not ideal for storage heaters?

Since having Smart Meters fitted, I have TOTALLY regretted it!   With the previous meters you knew exactly the times when Economy 7 came on and went off, (1 hour earlier in winter GMT time).  With Smart Meters the variation of times with E7 on and off, is vast!  Sometimes the E7 stays on up to 9.20am and other times the E7 goes off at 6.40am BST, 1 hour earlier in winter GMT.  With older heaters like mine that are over 30 years old, the heat retention is not very good, and if the heater goes off at 5.40am GMT, later in the afternoon they are barely warm, and almost cold in the evening.  The timings of Smart Meters are highly unreliable, definitely NOT suitable for Storage Heated homes with older heaters. IN MY VIEW THIS IS A TOTAL FAILURE OF TECHNOLOGY.  I will demand to have previous meters restored!  I am a 72 yo man with health problems, and heating technology that is USELESS!

Smart meter issues since getting photovoltaic (PV) solar panels fitted - inverter issue, is the meter damaged?

Photovoltaic system (PS) installed on my house in 2019.  Utility installed a smart meter.  Utility bills were reduced some, but never was able to bank energy credits.  In May ‘22, I noticed  meter had stopped working.  It read “Er0000002.”  Still received power.  Checked our bills; They have been $0.00 since January!  Free electricity is nice, but I wondered if the power the PS made was going into the utility lines.  Installing company came out and said the inverter is bad; will be replaced.  That was today.  Question is, “Coult the PS damage the smart meter, or did the smart meter allow the PS inverter to be damaged?”

The kWh displays on my new Alcara SGM 1411-3 Smets 2 smart meter are in whole numbers, but I need to see them with 2 decimal places as on my PA meter.How can I change them

What to do if my smart gas meter has condensation in the display screen, doesn't send readings remotely and can't be read?

  Hope someone  can help. Our gas smart meter is not communicating, I did contact Ovo via the chat. They asked me to fill out a questionnaire, which I duly did, & haven't heard anything since. The problem is the meters display has bad condensation on the inside of it, (pic) making it impossible to read. It also doesn't respond to any button pressing and is making a noise. There clearly is a problem with this meter, and would like it looked at asap, as my bills seemed to have increased, probably due to an estimation on the gas.I look forward to your reply.Regards.

Why do my Economy 7 tariff times (shown on my 5 port S2 smart meter) not match my meter switch times since switching to OVO?

I have recently switched to OVO Energy with an Economy 7 tariff.Shortly before, I had a multi-rate smart meter installed by my previous supplier. The off-peak times were in two blocks: 22:30–00:30 and 02:30–07:30 (times GMT; and also ignore the random switching offset). For the period 00:30–02:30, the tariff returned to the day rate.On transfer to OVO, it appears that the new tariff information sent to the meter has set the off-peak times to a single 7-hour block of 00:30–07:30 GMT (so currently an hour later due to BST).However, while the tariff times have changed, the meter’s switching times have not. Thus at 22:30, the storage heater circuit is turned on, but the meter is still charging the more expensive rate. At 00:30, when the meter starts clocking the night rate, the storage heater is switched off. Then, finally, at 02:30, the storage heater circuit comes back on and the meter continues on the night rate until 07:30.This is a problem for people with storage heaters because the i

How does an In Home Display show usage when I'm generating energy from my PV solar panels?

Hello I am thinking about having a smart meter installed, but I have solar panels. From research online I understand that the smart meter British Gas use are compatible with PVs – which is great. But I would like greater understanding on the interface / the meter reading which will be displayed. So for example: - If I am using £1 of electricity an hour and its at night (no PV electricity being generated) how would that differ on the smart meter reading from using £1 of electricity an hour In the middle of a sunny day where my PVs are generating electricity. Would it display the same cost usage (still £1 per hour) – thus ignoring the energy being generated, or would it display a lesser figure taking into account the amount being generated by my PV? Thanks.

Smart meter installation - connection problems - do all companies use the EE network for installation?

We have tried to have a smart meter installed (by Bulb, our current supplier) but the installation failed because the mobile signal on EE where we live is too weak. We do have reasonable signal on other networks (Vodafone, O2). My first question is, do all companies use the EE network for installation?  Assuming we are stuck with the EE network, would a signal booster help to make the installation viable? I am not exactly sure what needs to be boosted - is it 2G, 3G or 4G? We live in Bedfordshire, in a village. So we are not isolated and otherwise have reasonable connectivity!

Best In Home Display (IHD) to buy that displays live usage as default?

When I joined OVO I didn’t get the lovely smart colour In Home Display they advertise showing your actual current useage, but a fairly useless Secure Pipit 500 black & white unit that defaults to a meaningless display of the total you’ve ever spent with OVO.  With the need to monitor energy usage more closely, can anyone recommend a good In Home Display that I could buy if necessary which shows as a default display the actual live gas and electricity usage?  Sadly, I can’t get anywhere with OVO themselves...

Smart meter reading not matching the In Home Display or online account reading?

Hi everyone, I’m a former SSE customer who was moved to OVO in July and I’ve had nothing but problems with readings and bills since then. My latest problem is that the smart metre readings sent automatically and registered to my account are wildly inaccurate. Today’s registered reading from the smart metre for example was 3664 but the actual reading on my electricity meter is 3466. How is this so out?? Is it time to get the ombudsman involved??

Smart Meter installation not possible due to an earth leakage trip switch?

I am looking for some advice regarding my elderly father's meter installation.My father had a letter from his supplier advising him that he needed to have a smart meter installed because the radio switching service that controls his off-peak storage radiators is expected to be de-commissioned next March. My father agreed to the installation and I arranged to be present.In the event, the installer declined to fit a smart meter on the grounds that there is an earth leakage trip switch on the supplier side of the meter (installed by the Southern Electricity Board in the 1970s) and it is now policy to install trip switches on the customer side of the meter. He suggested that we either employ an electrician to move/replace the trip switch or manage without the smart meter. He pointed out that the off peak switching is managed by a clock and so is not affected by the radio switching issue.I was surprised that the householder would be responsible for wiring on the supplier side of the meter b

Can smart meter signals cause interference with interconnected smoke alarms?

Has there been any evidence or reports of a Smart Meter RF signal, SMETS 1 and 2, causing random/ spurious activations of i.e. EI Aico interconnected smoke alarms (not radiolink connected) in a domestic environment?

What is this electrical equipment next to my fuse box? I have a smart meter so not sure what it's purpose is?

Hello, I have recently moved into a new flat and am having issues/confusion with my electric board set up. A new smart meter was installed in 2017 (outside the property) - but i still have many things which i believe are obsolete / not working. Whilst the new smart meter is outside, everything else is housed together inside. I was just wondering if anyone knew exactly what all these were, if they’re still needed and also who is able to come and remove/amend anything out of place? S2 smart meters in the Northern Territory using the Arqiva network - why isn't the meter able to connect to the WAN?

It’s been a long story… Some while ago we were offered a SMETS1 smart meter, but we delayed until a SMETS2 was available. Then an engineer came to install a SMETS2 meter, and left saying something about no signal, leave it a while. The meter is in a lower ground floor area, with a mobile signal.Finally, July 2020, new SMETS2 meter installed - not talking to the network, but wait a bit and it’ll ‘probably’ be OK. No IHD left. I thought that even if the thing couldn’t talk to Ovo at least an IHD would allow me to read the meter easily, so I requested one, which eventually arrived. Silly me, I didn’t realise that the meter - supposedly installed for MY benefit - wouldn’t talk to my home network if it couldn’t talk to OVO first.After a while we got back to Ovo who said there was nothing they could do and we would have to move our meter, at our expense (approx £250) and hope the new position had a better signal. Why is my economy 7 smart meter switching to peak rates for 30 minutes every morning whilst still connecting my off peak circuit?

Back at the end of March I spotted that my smart meter swapped from the off peak cheap rate to peak rate just after 8am each morning, but did not disconnect my off-peak circuit until 30 minutes later.Every morning I have been charged the peak rate price for any power taken by my off-peak hot water storage tank to reheat after supplying hot water for my washing, showering, washing dishes, etc.Four months later, and OVO have still not sent the correct instructions to my smart meter.Am I the only person being consistently over-charged this way?

Smart meter in old terraced house - why have I been told I can't have one with engineer needing to access all houses?

Hi All, I’ve been told by another supplier (pre OVO) that I couldn’t have a smart meter because of the way the houses in my small terrace (4) were set up. I was told that the engineer would need access to all 4 houses at the same time! Has anyone else heard of this. or could someone explain? CheersDome

Does anyone out there know if there is a smart IHD available that will link with Amazon Alexa so that I can ask Alexa by voice to read out my energy consumption information. I'm disabled and this would help.

How can I tell if my SMETS1 meter has been 'enrolled' and will communicate with other suppliers when I switch?

Hi there, having been surfing this forum I can see that Ovo/Secure have started migrating Secure Liberty 100 meters to the SMETS2/DCC system, but that it will take up to October 2021 to be completed. All sounds really odd when it’s an OTA upgrade by all accounts - just pump it out??Anyway, is there any way of finding out if my meters have been transferred to SMETS2/DCC, or is it luck of the draw when changing supplier and the new supplier either gets readings remotely or doesn’t?I think it’s time I looked around as my deal is coming to an end but meter reading is a royal pain so want to try and maintain my remote readings functionality but not be stuck with the list of suppliers that can read an OVO-installed SMETS1 Liberty 100. Wasn’t this meant to improve customer experience?Many thanks
