Is SSC0939 available with all electricity suppliers?

That’s an odd question! I can find 17 different suppliers who have recorded SSC 0939, but I’ve never heard of most of them. It looks to be an unusual configuration, with 14 offpeak hours a day covered by TPRs 00395 and 00396 - the obverse of an Economy 10 plan if the information I have is reliable:

The fact that a specific SSC is registered by a supplier doesn’t mean that the supplier will offer it to any customer, and there’s certainly no obligation to do so. 

Many thanks Firedog for your comment. We have recently ( Sept '25 ) changed to a Smart meter and not have had the best customer experience and am wondering if I changed supplier and currently have the SSC 0939 would any new supplier will automatically allow me to keep that configuration.

Finally, any idea, please , as from where I can find a list of those suppliers who can provide the SSC 0939 configuration ?

I think that of the 17 companies I found who had registered SSC 0939, only two are domestic suppliers: OVO and Scottish Power. I suspect that the SSC relates to an obscure and obsolescent Scottish arrangement only provided now by Scottish Power, so I think you’re out of luck. 

Your next move, assuming that plans like Economy 9 and 10 don’t suit, will probably be to a ToU plan like the some of the ones Octopus offers.

It could well be that some of those are aliases for suppliers we know about, but I’m not planning on looking them up one by one to find out. How did you learn that E.On Next offer plans using SSC 0939?

When changing from an old traditional meter (Sept '25)  Eon  originally offered an alternative SSC but after much discussion they then  agreed the SSC 0939 . We have an electric ground heat source system so this is better suited with 14 hours Off-Peak.

I must admit that I have been labouring under a misconception, for which I apologize profusely. While trawling through Elexon’s gargantuan ‘Market Domain Data’ tables, I learnt that an electricity supplier doesn’t have to register an SSC before being able to apply it to a particular supply. It’s the DNO who registers it to indicate that they support it for suppliers in their region. It’s then entirely up to the supplier whether they wish to offer it to customers, and they will then have to adapt their billing system to accommodate it. I’m pleasantly surprised that E.On were prepared to do this; I doubt that many other suppliers would, but that will have to be tested. I wish you luck in that endeavour.

Before I bow out courteously to lick my wounded pride, I’d ask if you could share the name or number of your DNO. The number is the first two digits of your MPAN. If it’s not one of the ones in my list, I’ll just retire hurt.

Our old meter was replaced with a new smart meter on 11Th September 2025.

Our distripution number is  18  ( Southern Scotland).

DNO area 18 is indeed Scottish Power’s primary domain, so no surprises there. 

I did by chance come across this Heat Geek video, which as far as I can see interestingly classes your current tariff as one of the best for heat pump users. Sadly, their best - OVO’s Heat Pump Plus plan - has just been discontinued. You may have come across the video before, but I include it here in case anyone stumbles over this thread in the future. (Heat Geek have a high reputation among heat pump users frequenting these forums.)
