Sorry to hear this, although I’m glad to see one of our volunteers Blastoise186 has already stopped by to help out here.

 

I hope you found that helpful, it sounds like Blastoise has got it spot on here and there wouldn’t be a compatible replacement due to the age.

 

Just to be sure, would you mind sending a photo of the meter and IHD if possible? That would help make sure we’re advising as best as possible.😊

Hello,

Thank you both, Blastoise 186 and Abby - OVO Community Manager, for the useful information.

I did contact - hello@ovoenergy.com - explaining the need for some information, what meter type I had and my MPAN number, as I was going to purchase a new I.H.D..

They replied very quickly, leaving a message on my phone.  I’ve received a , free, new I.H.D. of a different make and I’m very pleased with it and the excellent service received.

I have connected it to the mains and very soon it should make contact with the smart meter.

I have an old SSE IHD with a failing battery, provided when they installed the smart meter years ago. It just shows overall usage, and doesn't really help with accurate monitoring or any kind of budget setting.

Can OVO supply a new one with better functionality?

Hi ​@evilemma78 ,

Unfortunately yours is out of warranty and OVO wouldn’t be able to replace it for you. But you do have options! Check out the guide I wrote a few years ago.

Just to add, from my understanding, the budget setting is never accurate on the IHD. It is usually approximate. For the correct bill numbers you need to access your online account.

How do i get sent out an IHD as ive just moved into a property but it doesn't have one.

Hope you’re enjoying the new place! The best way to do that is to have a chat with OVO Support via the options below:

They’ll be able to arrange for an IHD to be sent out to you. If you’re with another supplier, please ask their customer service to make the arrangements.

I’m glad to see Blastoise186 has already stopped by with some helpful advice here.

 

If you’ve not already done so, you can get in touch with the Support Team to request one be sent out to you. There’s a number of reasons for a lack of IHD at the property such as, some people either bin the IHD while they were previously living there or took it with them when they left, so we understand we sometimes have to send a new one out for new occupants. Blastoise186 left a really helpful topic with all of our contact details for the Support Team.
