Smart Meter & Economy 10

To cut a long story short…..at the insistence of OVO we had a smart meter fitted at our holiday home in The Highlands of Scotland and were told that we had to opt for a tariff as the new meter would be pre programmed and we opted for the economy 10 tariff.Having given the system a few weeks to settle down I look at our account and see that it is still showing the Simpler Energy THTC tariff, so I email OVO to see what is going on.An hour later I get a phone call that says we are on the wrong tariff and that Economy 10 has been renamed and does not exist.We then get an email to say that we are being put on the same tariff “Simpler Energy THTC” as of tomorrow with much higher charges than quoted when we agreed to economy 10.I am left completely confused and feel totally let down by OVO. I envisage a long struggle ahead.Is Economy 10 still a tariff?Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so do you have any advice on how to continue? Any help would be much appreciated.

Why is my Gas meter 2 days behind with the readings.

HiMy smart gas meter was changed on 7/11/24 as it hadn’t worked since moving into our new property in 2021. It has been set up for half hourly readings, looking at the usage it seems to be working, apart from the fact it is 2 days behind. Today is the 25th and 23rd/24th are not yet showing tomorrow the 23rd will show in the usage is this normal? The electricity usage is showing up to the 24th. Hope someone can explain this to me. Thanks.

Electricity fluctuating even when nothing changes - why?

Hi, I’m new to the forum and was wondering why electricity usage would fluctuate through the day from 0.0 to 0.32 when no one is in the house and there are only 3 applliances plugged in, 2 x freezer 1 x fridge?  All other sockets were off.

Sourcing a replacement In Home Display (IHD), where to get one if mine is broken?

Changed from E10 to E7 and my timings are wrong.

Changed OVO tariff from E10 to E7 on 22nd of November 2024.Account plan says E7 and in house monitor and meter shows E7 off-peak tariff from 23:30 hours to 07:30 hours (yes 8 hours, my neighbour has the same times).  The problem I have is my Dimplex Quantum storage heaters off-peak feed socket still gets power 3 times a day from 13:30 to 16:30 then 20:30 to 00:00 and 04:30 to 07:30 but are on peak rate. (E10 off peak times.)This means I only get E7 off peak times from 23:30 to 00:00 and 04:30 to 07:30 to feed my storage heaters. 3 and half hours a day off-peak energy.I informed Ovo and have an Advanced Resolutions member scratching her head and saying everything is ok OVO end, it must be my heaters.   I don't feed energy into my house at different times of the day that's what OVO do. I contacted the electrical company that supplied and fitted heaters and the said Ovo supply the energy at Ovo times.OVO arranged an engineer to come out and look at my meter but surprise surprise he never

After smart meter installation - Off Peak storage heaters tripping lights, appliances etc.

My smart meter was fitted on 31/05/2024.  I never had a problem with my electricity before then.My off peak storage heaters were off for the summer.  My immersion heater was still in use. It is on Off Peak tariff & has a Horstman Timer (it comes on between (3 am & 6 am). It is still in use & never been a problem. The immersion heater night rate KW hours are showing on meter readings on my account.In early October, I put on the storage heating.  When the off peak for the storage heaters came on at about 12.10 B.S.T. - It tripped all the lights, appliances, TV etc. in the house.The consumer box could not be reset to turn Lights, appliances etc., until the storage heaters were switched off at the switches in each room.My electrician has tested my electric system fully over days & weeks and still there is a problem.  His belief is there is a problem with the meter either a switch  or wiring in the meter.I keep getting fobbed off by customer services & they have asked me

Can I get some advice on RTS Switch off and Smart Meters for my PAYG meter?

I got the email to switch over to a smart meter last week,just as I was away ,so only digesting it now! I’m reasonably okay with having the old meter taken out,but a few concerns/questions - for those that have had the switch, mainly how these things work compared to the old RTS meters that are being phased out and the tariffs.. So what are the differences between the two meters?I’ve been on a PAYG tariff and understand that’s going to be the same with the switch to a smart meter, but for those of you that have,how much more expensive have you found it? And lastly,presuming the old meter key system for the RTS meter means I won’t be using that key to top up when the smart meter is installed?Cheers!

I keep getting invitations to book a smart meter when I've already refused?

I keep getting invitations to get a smart meter and I really don’t want one is there a way to stop these invitations ? How do I make it clear to OVO that I dont want a smart meter ?

Can I switch my Smart Meters to half hourly readings?

I had SMETS2 gas and electricity meter a installed a couple of weeks ago. So far so good, however I’m wondering if / how I can switch them to 30 minute reads? I’d like more granularity on the usage data ideally. Also, I’m finding the gas readings are very binary; maybe because it’s summer and we are not using a lot, but it seems to be counting in chunks - e.g one day we will use nothing, then we’ll use a set amount, the next day it’s exactly the same amount. This seems a bit odd.

Gio Trio Gas Awaiting data - No live usage figures

Smart meter installed in 2022 for both Gas and Electricity - IHD that came with it never worked. Requested a new IHD every few weeks for about 6 months until eventually I gave up. Around end of September/start of October 2024, the smart meter died and an engineer came and installed a new smart meter on the 24th October 2024 and set me up with a new IHD. A day or two later, my electricity live data appeared on my IHD and readings started to be sent daily to OVO. Gas usage has never appeared nor sent any information to OVO. Live chat with OVO and was told it can take up to 21 days to register which would have taken me to Thursday 14th November 2024. Live chat again earlier this week (past the 21 days) where I was told I just had to wait and it will appear. Currently 29 days after install and still no information showing/sending. Very reluctant to believe it’s just going to appear. IHD says “Awaiting data - Please see system status” and when I check system status it says “Gas meter servic

How to upgrade to a gas smart meter if I've got a large (U16) gas supply?

Hi, I have a gas meter for my flat that was originally installed in the 1970s for the whole house with seven open gas fires. The house was sub-divided into four flats in the 1980s but I ended up with the original house meter for my flat. I would like to install a smart gas meter from OVO Energy but it will not be possible as it is not a drop in replacement. How do I first down grade to a smaller sized standard meter? I have a gas boiler and gas hob in the flat only. The 3 gas fires are now disconnected. Do I need to contact National Grid? Thanks Nick

How do I take a manual reading on my smart meter?

Hi, I have not had anyone round to check my smart meter readings for months and months. I’d like to check the meters match my bills? Is it possible to read them the old fashioned way to check?

BBC Panorama tonight on Smart Meter issues

“The Truth about Smart Meters” is on BBC Panorama tonight, and available on iPlayer now.It’s generally very damning of the rollout of the system, saying that there are 36 million Smart Meters and 3.5 million don’t work properly or not at all.I’d like to focus on what they say about an apparent north/south divide. In the North (Scotland and northern England), where a radio network is used to communicate with your supplier, they are saying there are significant issues with communications - with anecdotal stories from Glasgow, Derbyshire and County Durham.Energy UK confirmed there are significant issues but, on the BBC News website, Ofgem claims there is no statistical difference between complaints in the North and South. I wonder who is correct?The case in Glasgow was resolved by fitting a Smart Meter Hub that uses the mobile phone network. Strangely, there was no mention in the whole programme of the potential issue with using the 2G/3G mobile phone network, which presumably covers the

Tariff switch timing wrong? Eco 10 new meter

Hi all! I’m a conscript grime SSE. I have Eco10 with a Landis and Gyr meter. I have storage heating.the heating is added in to the normal circuit by a contractor fitted at the same time as the smart meter.The economy rate is switching in and out either early or late depending on how it feels. I could only tell it was switching in or out by the clonk. There is no indicator of which rate is active. I’ve now got a bulb to indicate on economy. I’ve now got a timer on economy so I can see active economy hours.I'm only actually getting 9 hours of economy rate instead of 10. Not a good start. I ignored the sudden £5000 debt for now.I know a lot of you are volunteers so I appreciate your help. 🙈

Why Has My Energy Consumption Increased in the Second Month?

Hi everyone,I'm new to OVO and recently moved into a brand-new house, and I'm the first person to live here. My latest bill, starting on the 3rd, shows an increase in energy consumption by 2 kWh compared to the first month. I haven’t changed any of my electricity usage habits, and I don’t care about the 2 kWh increase, but I’d like to know the reason.

My In-Home Display doesn't match my smart meter, has it developed a fault?

Awakened this morning to find that the IHD showed a large energy cost despite no appliances on overnightwhich incidentally doesn’t match my energy useTried switching the IHD on/ off several occasions yet will not match the Smart meter energy cost display Also despite not setting a budget and cancelling it the display still continues to show a budget setI’m  assuming the IHD has developed a fault as can’t find any way to reset it so it matches up with the Smart Meter

Successful smart meter installation, well done OVO!

Our smart was installed on 3rd October, well ahead of the radio tele-switch signal switch off. We have now changed from THTC to Domestic Economy.The engineer who installed our smart meter was brilliant and he even fitted an isolator for us.We were told that although the smart meter will be accurately recording our usage immediately it will take 4 to 6 weeks before useful data is being sent to OVO or appearing on the IHD.After nearly 5 weeks our smart meter began sending useful data to OVO and our IHD burst into life. All working fine.Well done Meter Engineer and OVO.

Economy 10 help with quantum storage heaters

We have recently had a new meter installed because of the RTS shutdown. We are now on Economy 10 previously being on THTC and have quantum storage heaters.  I have my heaters set to come on at certain times of the day. With Economy 10 do my heaters come on automatically at off peak times or do I have to set this up with my heaters to coincide with the off peak times?

Half hourly readings - I've selected them, but readings are daily

 Four days ago I selected 30 min readings for my electricity.My account is still showing daily readings.Do I need to wait a bit longer, or is this a fault ?

I've recently just had smart meters installed and have questions about my Tariff and Standing Charges

Had smart meter fitted 2 weeks ago apparently takes up to 6 weeks to get your account up to date. Since originally on THTC plan unable to access app as doesn’t support complex meters so still unable to access appwhen logging online found that the energy plan has been changed from THTH to economy 9 in line with the smart meter being fitted However how can it be stated Plan date  year 2000 when this is 2024 am I’m missing something here or is Ovo Energy (Incompetent )only migrated from SSEE last year Also notice that since smart meter fitted apart from the IHD showing tariff and standing charge Why has the standing charge on line not stopped day after smart meter fitted and is still increasing daily Suggesting Two standing charges in operation simultaneously likewise of the energy plan has been changed online you would expect to Now be able to access the app rather than continuing online access to your account

Is there room for a smart meter?

Is there room for a smart meter here ?Would I have to get a local electrician to move that doorbell transformer somewhere else (assuming that’s what it is), or is there a smaller version available that a meter man could fit so they could get a smart meter in ? British Gas is the supplier.

Smart meter installed and now can't access online account???

I had a smart meter installed in Mid September removing an old night rate meter and day meter. Around two weeks ago I was unable to access my online account. I’ve never been able to use the app and I now cannot access the online account. I have tried using every known browser known to man, different PC, tablets, Mac, phone, different locations and still can’t access it.  I had an email exchange for fits@ovoenergy.com around 2 weeks ago and haven’t received a reply.. I am sick to my back teeth of the service provided by OVO and have been met with incompetence at every turn. If I don’t hear from them shortly I’ll be going to the Ombudsman again.

Having issues getting THTC meters replaced - what next?

Hello!I am in the process of getting my THTC meters upgraded to a smart meter but have hit a brick wall of sorts. I’m waiting on advice from a private electrician, but figured there are some helpful people here who could confirm/deny my suspicions.So after years of waiting, an engineer turned up to upgrade my meter, and I was quickly told it would not be possible, but was not really given any advice as to what to do. Later, Ovo has told me that there needs to be more room for the meter installation, so my plan as of now is to move the nearby consumer unit by about 5cm away from the meter, something a customer service advisor seemed to think might be enough. This might be costly but we’ll see. The problem as I see it is that to do so, I assume the electrician will need to move the meters, and Ovo, to install a new meter, would need to move the consumer unit. i.e. neither side can touch the other’s equipment unless they’re both there at the same time? They are both on a probably plywood

Meter installation issue- not commissioned

Hi folks,I had an OVO engineer round today to install an isolator switch after my meter so that I can get work done on the consumer units safely, no issues with that - all went fine.Upon putting the power back on he said that my meter (a Secure Liberty 100 SMETS1 model) wasn’t ‘talking to OVO’ and suggested that he swap it out for a new one while he was here. At no cost to me so I said fine.Sadly however the new meter (a Aclara SGM SMETS2 model) could not pick up the WAN at all and he was unable to commission it. He said that it might pick it up in the future and someone could come and commission it then, but more likely it will just act as a ‘dumb’ meter until such time as Arqiva improve the radio coverage in my area.As I understand it the old meter would have used GSM networks to communicate rather than the Arqiva radio system which is why it was able to function fine in smart mode and the new one cannot.Can anybody advise on what the likely outcome is here? It is frustrating to have
