Hiya - this is not an OVO question but I hope someone can help. My stepson moved into his own house in September 2021. The energy supplier for gas and electric is British Gas. He contacted them on completion to give them his details and a meter reading but they told him, they couldn’t talk to him because he is not the account holder and there are arrears on the account. The house was empty for some time before he moved in (deceased estate) and although we have a name for the former tenant (it’s not the same as the person who sold the property) we have no idea who he is or where he is now. We have tried repeatedly to talk to British Gas by phone and email but we’re getting nowhere. Letters from a debt collection agency are now coming chasing the outstanding amount - still in the name of the former tenant. We know we’re liable for the gas and electric from his moving in date but just cannot get British Gas to update his details or send a bill in his name.  We’ve tried switching as well b

I know OVO own BoostAre they housed in the same building ? Do they each have their own staff ?Do they have independent  customers services  and are they all based in the UK ?

Hi I hope you can help me please. I am currently paying my energy bill by Direct Debit each month. Due to the recent and upcoming price increases, I would like to go back to Paper Bills and manual payments online. This is so , as I hope, I will only be paying for the energy I actually use each month instead of a blanket amount regardless of mu usage. Can anyone tell me how to do this without getting earache on the ‘phone line please?? Thanks in advance. Dave

Hi Forum friends!  I am now an Ovo customer (previously SSE).  Since moving to my new address last August (2021) it seems that whenever I have tried to submit meter readings for electricity, they have been rejected.  It seems to be because I have two meter readings, day and night usage, and the night usage number doesn’t change.  Because of this, both of the meter readings are rejected, and I am given an estimated bill.  Not sure what to do about this,.  But with the DD amount increasing from £154 pm to £341 pm I want to make sure this is right.  Any ideas out there?  Many thanks.  Joanne

Hi, I get delivery of an EV in March and got my EV charger installed (Easee One) last week. I’m like most members are on a Standard variable rate. I see that the OVO EV package requires a specific charger which I didn’t realise. The question is  can can I switch to an EV tariff using my Easee One and would it be cost efficient or should I stick to the standard variable? I do around 700-1000 miles a month, mostly local so will charge every so often but want to charge at the cheapest possible rate and don’t mind charging off-peak.

Just had a smart meter installed - currently it’s displaying less  information than my old FOC energy monitor where I could set all my contract tariffs & see my realtime consumption. We have two tariffs - normal daytime & Economy 7 night time - cannot not see explicitly the Econ& tariff displayed - bit concerned we’ve just lost out Econ 7 tariff with the upgrade & need reassurance

Please can anyone assist with my issue.I have just found out this morning that my 80 year old mothers account has been switched from Utilita to OVO without any permissions either from her or myself ( I had permissions to oversee account). As it stands today she has not yet received account details from OVO or payment cards, so she has no fuel. I called Utilita and they tell me to call OVO and yes all OVO lines are closed for the weekend.I need to know who gave permission to switch this account and who is taking responsibility for essentially leaving an 80 year old woman in the middle of winter with no fuel.Lucy.

I have a SOLARMAN smart app. During the day when solar panels are producing energy it shows as a blue area on the graph. At roughly the same time it shows a similar size red area of energy usage at a time when almost no energy is being used in the housewe have a solar array, 1 battery, a hot water cylinder and a SOLARiBoost+thank youphilip

I understand that SMETS 2 meters use 2G or 3G mobile connections, both of which are going to be switched off in the next few years. I believe Vodafone will be switching off their 3G service in 2023. What happens then. Are we expected to pay for further upgrades to smart meters to move them to 4G services.

Over the past months my OVO account says my smart meter isn’t reporting. Most recently it stopped from the 17th Dec until today. (my account shows it connected today. Interestingly today I was accessing it and taking photos). It has lost and regained multiple times now!. I would like to be able to use ovo drive anytime tariff for my electric car but I need it to work reliably before I switch. The fixed rate is more than my current tariff and if I move and can’t add the any time I will be out of pocket badly! My WAN and HAN are flashing. I also have terrible mobile signal in the area. But I’m on EE not O2.What are my options for getting the connection to work reliably? Can I get a new meter installed with an antenna?  

I’ve recently had a Daikin ASHP installed under the OVO heat pump trial. It comes with a simple Honeywell room thermostat. Does anyone know if using a smart thermostat, such as Tado, would cause any issues with this system? Also, am I even allowed to change the thermostat under the trial terms, I’m not sure? Any advice on smart thermostats appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, my smart meter is playing up electric all works fine but gas shows not money valueit must be sending meter reading to my supplier as they are still billing me but the value i have used per day is always £0.00the only thing i can find is when i go into the gas account it says waiting for CIN but electric account shows CIN:0000- this has been like it for months nothing has changed regarding wi-fi or positioning and worked fine for ages before this any help appreciated 

 I do have another query, I was away from midday 19th December and returned at around 5 pm on 3rd January , so as my home was empty during that time I expected the usage for 20/12/2021 to 2/01/2022 to have been exactly the same but it isn’t and I would like to know why this is

My mother moved house and was already an existing ovo customer. Her new flat had a smart meter installed by eon. She switched to ovo in october 2020 and has not had an actual reading since her bills are entirely estimated. My mother has become vulnerable so i now manage her finances through a lasting power of attorney which i have provided ovo with. I have been refused access to an operator on a number of occasions and on others am able to speak to someone. I have been told the meter is faulty so cannot obtain a manual reading from it. I am at the end of my patience and am going to cancel the direct debit until I get an actual reading.

Hi,  A gas safety engineer has visited recently and advised the below problems. We have contacted our current energy supplier but they don’t use U16 gas meter so won’t be able to change it.Will OVO able to help to fix the below with a cost? FOUND U16 GAS METER STARTING TO RUST DUE TO WEATHERING, AT RISK ADVISED GAS PIPE IS UNDERSIZED BUT NOT AFFECTING COMBUSTION, AT RISK ADVISED FOUND GAS PIPE NOT SLEEVED OR SEALED, ALSO GAS PIPE IN VOID SPACES AND NOT VENTED, AT RISK ADVISED

Hey everyone,First thing to say, I'm not with OVO yet - as I was with Green and could only get a smart meter installed since Shell took over, and obviously can’t switch yet - but based on my googling for smart meter issues, this is the forum to come to - so I'm hoping you can help on a technical understanding level:I had a smart meter installed last Tuesday. From 11:30 that night, the DCC started receiving data correctly and everything seemed fine… until Saturday morning at 9:30, when the DCC stopped providing data (I’m using Hildebrand’s Glow API, and n3rgy’s access as DCC Other Users to validate all this)As a software developer, I've been working on a library to let other devs read smart data via n3rgy or glow, hence why I had access to data well before my provider even processed the smart meter.All the lights on my meter (SW, WAN and HAN) are flashing once every 5 seconds, which suggests everything is normal in that regard and the signal strength is reported as -10dbm (which I belie

My smart meters were installed on 21 December but the system was down and could not be completed.  Engineer said another visit would be necessary but I am still waiting to hear from Ovo.  I am now faced with an estimated bill - first time since I signed up with Ovo - and am beginning to wish I hadn't bothered with smart meters at all.Engineer put a safety warning on my gas fire with instructions not to use until a Gas Safe Engineer had checked it.  This I did and there was nothing wrong with the fire.  Cost me £30 so not happy about this either.

I had a bit of time on my hands today (don't ask!) and I was wondering how long it would take for my old gas pipe to rust and cause a leak ?It is hard to see in my pictures as it is in the background.I am not even sure if there is gas in the pipe anymore although I think there is as why else would the pipe be turned off and capped ? The pipe was there when I moved into my house 25 years ago (I just paid off my mortgage 3 months ago)I googled it and apparently old gas pipes were made of carbon steel that does rust although modern gas pipes are made of polyethylene (PE) Am I worrying over nothing as the gas pipe is embedded in concrete which would surely 'eat' into the carbon steel in the same way that it does to copper piping? My water mains is made of copper and that runs under the foundation of my house and it doesn't have a protective sleeve to protect it but that's another story !  

Thinking of swapping to a smart meter, currently pay my bills in full every quarter. Do I have to change to monthly direct debit or will I still be able to pay quarterly? 

I have 30 or so zigbee home sensors/devices in my smart home network. I discovered when I added a new outdoor sensor and zigbee router near my smart meter that there is interference. Rather than change my home network to another 2.4 GHz channel I would like to switch off the HAN function of my meter entirely. I have a pipit display but do not use it.Is there a way to disable the zigbee HAN on the meter or remotely?

Hi, I had a Aclara Smets2 fitted in February 2021 and the OVO engineer informed me after fitting that there was no communication to the meter and it would therefore need an aerial before the smart function would work. Despite numerous attempts to get the communication aerial installed I continue to be told there are no engineers available to assist. Can I purchase an aerial and install this myself? Within the next 4-6 weeks I am having solar pv installed and need smart meter functionality. 

I had a smart meters fitted for electric and gas in August this year, since being fitted the gas meter had never given a reading( the electric has). I’ve had countless phone calls with customer support at OVO  with them trying updates remotely that didn’t work and then was told that an engineer would contact me to sort this out, but they was no way of saying when, I would just have to wait.when I made a complaint about this I was told that there was nothing else that could be done and that they couldn’t leave a complaint open so I must agree to what was happening.  I moved to ovo to be more environmentally friendly and thought by having smart meters I would not have to worry about readings! I have to say its been there worst experience I’ve ever had with an energy supplier and would strongly advise anyone else not to bother.

Does anyone know if any of the smart meter suppliers ( Landis/Itro/Chameleon et al) use HAN zigbee debugging tolls? I just need to know if such debugging tools exist ( like Wireshark for network/LAN/wi-fi debugging packets). My energy supplier can’t fix my IHD problem and just say ‘ we don’t know what the problem is.’
