My OVO energy

I’ve tried to top up my PAYG smart electricity meter today as I have nearly run out of credit but I get a message saying Meter Top Up Failure. Is there a problem with topping up today? Can’t get through to anyone on the phone. Thanks for any help. 

Checked and paid bill on 7th Jan 2024. I used to be able to see way back when we got moved from SSE but now my history starts at 2022 with a note saying you have been moved to our new system in Jan 2022. I check regularly and this has just appeared. Wealso have months missing from 2022 and 2023. I screenshot Dec to Jan with debit of £387 just before Christmas and on 5 Jan the debit is £551 !! What on earth are OVO doing. None of it makes sense.

I must say I’m not very happy with these so called smart pay as you go meters.. my elderly and vulnerable parents had one of these fitted recently and went to see them on Tuesday and they had no electric (luckily it was only an hour and they knew I was coming) but they have a care line which stopped working so that’s dangerous but I checked the app on my phone as I’m power of attorney for them so I keep track of everything and it was showing still £43 in it??? I phoned up was told that the balance was actually zero! So I topped up again while on the phone then had to be talked through how to get the meter working again!! There is nowhere on the screen that tells you the balance in there but even if it did it’s so complicated and high up my parents couldn’t use it themselves anyway…. There should be some kind of simple to use meter… it’s now Friday and topping it up 3 more times it’s still showing they have £43 in the meter and last updated 1/1/24 ????? Does anyone else regret having the system fitted? It's not cheap have it fitted, it takes up loads of space,it's not reliable,it's not cheap to run,it's not compatible with hive,it keeps breaking down and you have a heck of a job getting someone out to fix it.

As per the title really. Was running at 10% on 19th December when the email came through, and despite nothing changing with our usage except maybe using a little more on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (which shouldn't be included anyway should they?) my Power Move Credit for December was £0. Funny that. Doubt I'll even bother with the new one. Doesn't seem any point. And because my Smart Meters STILL only seem to be talking to OVO and not the DCC I still can't join any other challenges etc. that other monitoring companies are doing. 

Accepting that there is a PowerMove FAQ here already, could it be updated to be more helpful and concise such as the Power Move Plus FAQ ? The aim is to help address the repeated questions which appear to be related to an misunderstanding between what is PM and PM+, along with the actual aims of the schemes and the basics of achieving the targets.I feel that it’d also help if the FAQs are more prominent, as older/other forums would have it pinned at the top. 

i changed my simpler energy plan on 28th December from Economy 7 to a single variable  rate which was acknowledged and implemented. I have now noticed today (4/1/2024) that the readings on my smart meter and IHD have reverted back to Economy 7 dual rates which I definitely do not want. How can I have this resolved?

I can’t hit the target because my overall usage is low and evenly spread throughout the day, if I used lots of energy, I could swap things around, but as I don’t , my target equals on average using less than 0.7 kwh in the 3 hour period

Hi there. Has anyone else out there had the same experience as me. I was checking to see if my latest bill was available on the OVO app when I noticed they were offering me one and two year fixed deals. I innocently clicked on the link to see how much it would be, only to find that I was instantly signed up for a two-year fixed contract which I didn't want. I now have to go through the process of trying to get them to cancel it within 14 days. Is it just me that thinks this is outrageous. Surely there should be a minimum of two steps to allow you to first see the rates they are going to charge you so that you can decide whether it is something you want or not. I am absolutely horrified that OFGEN allows them to do it.

I’m currently with SSE but hope I can get an answer here as they have been taken over by OVO. I have two separate electricity meters, one for standard rate, and one for storage heater and hot water, the latter being controlled by a clock which gives two separate charging periods.  We don’t use the heater except for background (low rate is about 45% total usage) and I think Economy 7 would be cheaper.  Is this possible to move to a single E7 meter (smart if poss) and would there be a charge?  The whole system dates from the 1960s and so far as I know the only change has been two new meters a few years ago.  Picture of distribution board attached.  

To save energy I try and use the washing machine and dishwasher on my Economy 7 night tariff by the use of the inbuilt timers. The thing is that I assume the switchover occurs sometime around midnight and again at 7am in the morning. The Ovo Energy website says to check the actual times (which can vary) with your energy provider i.e. Ovo Energy. I can find no specific information on this online so would need to contact them. However because I manage my account online I don't think I am allowed to email them. Have tried before on another topic and never got a reply. Is there any easy way to get the info other than sitting by the meter and waiting for the click 😃

Hi All I’m looking for help and advice in getting an issue resolved that is currently on day 2 with no resolution. I’ve transferred from British Gas to OVO on 02/01/24. I was a prepayment customer (Pay as you go) with British Gas and applied and was accepted as a pay monthly customer with OVO. I have smart meters for both Gas and Electricity.  Unbeknownst to me, My Gas Smart Meter stopped functioning correctly prior to the switch, the meter stopped communication with the network and would not receive payments from British Gas. When I have switched to OVO the meter should have switched to a Credit setting as opposed to Pay as you Go. Because there is a communication issue with the meter this means it is now stuck in Pay as you Go mode. I have no way to top up the meter with British Gas anymore as the supply has transferred, and I have now way to top up with OVO because they have me as a pay monthly customer. I am now completely off supply for

I live alone in a 3 bed End Terrace (I had 2 teens when I moved in) and I think I'm quite frugal in both my gas and electricity usage. Every week though, my electricity use is always higher than similar OVO homes, this past week it was 43% higher 😯.  By similar homes, are OVO looking at the fact that I live alone or that I've got 3 bedrooms? In October, I used £53 of electricity, is this really 40% higher than other homes? 

Over the last two years we have had four power cuts, due to trees falling on the powerlines.The power lines in question, go through a relative narrow tunnel surrounded by pine trees.Storm Arwin dislodged some and since them it has gone from bad to worse and any new storm causes new damage. The engineers come in and fix the cables, however leave the surrounding trees alone.I am interested to know , if it is up to OVO ( SSE) or the land owner to clear a sufficient wide area to prevent further damage.

Hi, simple question, I hope.Can we export surplus EV power back to the grid if we do not have a good mobile signal? We have repeatedly applied for a Smart Meter and been told they will not work here because our mobile signal is not good enough. In an effort to reduce our inexplicably high bills we have installed a solar panel system the returns of which were predicated in part on being able to sell surplus generation back to the grid, via our supplier Octopus. At no time did anyone mention the requirement for a good mobile signal, we have wifi calling via a high speed broadband, but no reliable mobile signal indoors.All this only became apparent when we applied for Octopus's Export Guarantee and they make clear we need a Smart Meter and when we applied we were told they are not currently available in our area! I can't find any advice about this, the lack of Smart Meter seems to be assumed to be a matter of choice not technology, Quite happy to invest in an Expor

I have a chameleon ihd6 and it seems to work ok finally but now the temperature indicator on the home screen keeps flashing.does anyone know why it does this or what it means ? any help much appreciated

I am shocked, surely this cannot be correct?  I understand websites being down for sometimes a few weeks for updates, but when I tried to log into the OVO Energy website today only to see the message “We're in the process of migrating groups of customers to our new website so access to your online account won't be available until the end of 2023” I was quite frankly flabbergasted.  And with absolutely zero warning that this was pending.So is that right, will there be no website for up to 9 months???How will I monitor my usage in these trying financial times?  How will I be able to check when my peak charge times are?  How will I be able to check whether my direct debit is adequate to cover my monthly costs, and how will I be able to change it? How will I be able to view and compare historical bill values?  And how will I be able to view and compare any new fixed rate deals that might become available.Seriously

Forgive what must be a rather strange question, from two, completely at a loss, octogenarians.We live in a two bed flat in a protected environment, which was built in 1992.The flat uses electricity only:Heating, rads, immersion heaterCooking, microwave, hob, ovenWasher/DrierLighting - all low energy bulbsShower, towel railsTV, computer, BBI make a point of lowing heat settings and turning off heating in rooms not in useOur bill for electricity has skyrocketed, now at over £812 in debit, with a suggested increase to a monthly  DD to £431 to achieve a year end balance.We are also now informed that we are using 103% more than other similar properties, how can this be?Any thoughts/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi we have a PHEV & an EV. It’s important to us that both charge at the EV charge rate.The Kuga has over the last few months stopped charging & we’ve had to plug unplug to get it to restart. Now when I leave it to charge overnight, nothing.Please can you help. Currently this is the only reason we are with OVO and there isn’t much point in staying if it doesn’t charge both our vehicles.Thanks

Hello, I had been using Anytime perfectly since March, however, the release of the new version with multi-car support (great idea) doesn’t work anymore. It seems to be stuck thinking it is 8:27 yesterday morning so not recognising that the car is plugged in charging. This will obviously mean that I’m not getting the reduced rate and the car is just charging immediately when plugged in as if the Anytime set up doesn’t exist. Is this affecting others?
