My OVO energy

Hi, I provided OVO with meter readings yesterday. I have digital pre-payment meters (not smart). Between them they display nearly £200 credit, like to have a little extra on just in case. I got a lovely email from the OVO customer care team thanking me for providing the readings that stated my credit with them is £485.12. Now I am confused. How can I have more credit than the meter displays? Is it in addition to the amount displayed? Will it go on my meter? Should I ask them for it to be paid back to me? I’ve read that this time of year is when any credit should be at its lowest & that’s a lot of my money! And ideas what I should do please?

Updated on 08/10/24 by Shads_OVOThere are several discussions currently ongoing regarding smart meters, reliability of connection and the effect on users habits. What may not be too well known are the raft of projects currently underway to expand the capabilities of the smart meter network to measure and record other criteria which could help to tackle energy loss in the home and ultimately contribute to a ‘net-zero’ energy emission goal. Termed a Smart Meter based IoT (internet of things) program, lots of organisations are looking into how additional sensors might be able to utilise the smart meter network to add monitoring for the likes of heat pumps, temperature, humidity and other parameters for a better package of control capabilities for home energy management. Some of the projects are listed here 

Hi, have been with OVO nearly two nears now and always submit my gas and electric readings manually on the exact day every month and never had a problem, its been great. But how often do OVO send a meter reader out to verify my readings are correct?

I, wrongly maybe, as an OVO customer , started a Fixed Rate two year contract on 27th Oct.  Simpler Energy is much cheaper - for the present.  Can I change over to Simpler Energy and go bsck onto another Fixed rate contract in the future?

Hello, In late January, I have switched the electricity suppliers and left OVO Energy. Today, I have received a statement for electricity for the period between 17 February and 16 March, which was already covered by my new supplier and not by OVO, indicating just over 66 pounds in debit. How can I owe this amount if OVO is no longer my supplier at the property? Upon trying to conact OVO in a reply to the statement sent by e-mail (at hello@ovoenergy.com), I received a message that this e-mail account is not registered to an OVO account, which further complicates the issue. I would appreciate any help on the subject. If that helps, my OVO account number listed in the statement is *Edited by Mod* Kind regards

(sent 2nd July 2022)Hello,  I would like to request a review and reduction to calculations for my Direct Debit amount. I currently pay £107 per month (I have always chosen to pay a little more than the minimum requested amount) , and I have been informed today that OVO will be changing my monthly payment to £255. Thats a 238% increase.  I would like to request an 'estimation' that accurately reflects my actual usage as I a) live alone and work 6 days a week (ie: reduced usage) and b) an increase to £255 per month is both unattainable and excessive to say the least for a single occupancy, lower usage dwelling.  My current account balance is +£696.05 I am on the 2 year fixed energy plan for both Gas and Electricity.  The OVO email estimates that my account will be -£2,959.51 at contract end on 7th Feb 2024 (end of contract).

Just to put it out there that I’ve had a warning from my security program that I’ve had a data breach on my account with OVO.  Suggest people check their accounts, especially if they are in credit.

I recently moved into a newly built property. I was told my electricity supplier is OVO so I contacted them to set up an account and direct debit. 2 months later and I’m still unable to get into my online account, and they’re saying it’s because my meter is de-energised! This can’t be the case as the electricity supply is working fine! What is even more frustrating is that my bill that I got by email says £0 in charges when they’ve been taking £25 direct debit each month! Any ideas on how to sort this out? Thanks in advance.

70 years ago the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, Lewis L. Strauss, predicted that by 1970 electricity would be ‘Too cheap to meter’.  ( It is suspected that he thought nuclear fusion would be here by then, but as we all know nuclear fusion is always 40 years in the future. )‘Too cheap to meter’ does not mean ‘Free’, it means metering is not worth the effort.All our electricity suppliers spend a lot of money on billing, accounts, support, etc., most of which could be avoided if users just paid a fixed price for having power supplied to their house. Like car tax, but for electricity. A fixed part of our bills already exists, the despised ‘Standing Charge’. What you you think of paying just that, but somewhat higher, for all your electricity ?.Obviously there would be a lot of effort to get this working, but it could be done. ( e.g. Just like bigger cars attract bigger tax, the ‘Standing Charge’ could be banded by some method. )What

Hi, hoping someone may be able to help with this - I’m having an absolute NIGHTMARE trying to get through to a OVO/SSE department who is able to help progress this.Not sure if they’re going through a change with call centres or the like but there’s a language barrier happening and the operators, in the several departments I’ve tried to speak to, over several hours, can’t understand the technical aspects and vocabulary such as fifth terminal, secondary contactor, etc, only picking up on words like ‘heating’ ‘not’ ‘working’ until eventually I was put through to a lady in Scotland who is in the home cover insurance department for when your boiler or water heater stops working!Any help in getting through to the proper support line would be really helpful - I can sympathise with the call centres abroad not understanding the technical aspects, as it’s a totally different language for everyone whatever their first language - but at the moment I have a OSO 210L water heater th

I recently signed up to renew my energy for a further two years on a fixed rate from mid April. However, I have today received an email stating that I am being switched to a variable rate when my present contract finishes. Has anyone else experienced this? I have been with the company for years and my account always has a healthy credit balance. Not sure if the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. 

Here is the main text from the email that I just received:  Your Power Move Plus target.   Your personal Power Move Plus target for this event is 0.5 kWh.   Avoid using non-essential electricity between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday 16 November and for every kWh you shift below your target, you’ll receive £3 towards your energy bill.  It is impossible for me to achieve even 1 KWh below the target of 0.5 KWh!  Can any Ovo person, or anyone else for that matter, make any sense of this? 

Just updated the Charge anytime app and now it won't open. It starts then closes. I have uninstall and reinstalled. Rebooted my Samsung the the same problem. Anyone else have this issue?

Ever since OVO took over SSE the meters and the accounts of the property I own have been mixed up. I own a house that is split into 2 flats. OVO (SSE) supply’s the gas to the First floor flat and the electricity to the Ground floor flat, the two flats have been rented to different tenants, who have recently moved out. Ever since OVO took over SSE on OVO’s system/date base the two meters are on the address of the building rather than the individual flats they belong to. The electricity for the First floor flat and the gas for the Ground floor flat are provided by different utility providers. I only find this out in December when tenants moved out and I was trying to inform OVO of the changes. I raised the complaint at the end of December, for the last 3 months I have been trying to resolve this by email and phone with zero success. All I am getting is that they will come back to me or that they are looking at the issue. 

I live in a small converted building of just four flats; we each have our own metres and bills. We share costs of a  fifth metre for our communal hall, (we only use hall electric lighting occasionally and have a Chair lift plugged in. No other electrics nor gas) We are on a standing order and bills are aprox £80-£120 per quarter. This month over £3,770 has been swiped out of our account!!!! Without reason! We are all pensioners; aged 65-92 and we’re desperate to know why!We feel absolutely violated! We have to make do on pensions and the funds in our account were for our building insurance due next month which will be in excess of £3,000 Just reaching out for help! We are NOT in arrears!
