My  parents are trying to simplify an old arrangement and reduce costs. They live in a house that used to be two flats and which had 2 electricity meters and therefore 2 charges etc. The arrangements have now been changed so all the electric is using one meter and so now the second one can be removed. Just to make this an especially complicated situation they are in the process of being transferred from SSE to Ovo. The now redundant meter is with  Ovo and the other is with SSE. Both are smart meters, however they have to submit manual readings as the 'smart' meter does not seem to connect. I cannot seem to find any way of contacting Ovo for help with this very specific question, does anyone have any suggestions please! Thank you

I have recently installed Solar PV plus a home battery and have a smart meter. Through the winter, I want to be able to charge the battery at night at a cheap rate and then use that stored electricity through the day. This seems a pretty standard requirement these days. However, I am struggling to find a supplier who can do this for me. The tariffs I have found are limited to charging EVs overnight at a cheap rate. Does OVO offer a tariff to meet my need? Can the community suggest any other supplier (I have switched to Octopus but they are on hold at the moment as they are having to convert their tariffs to fit within the Government’s cover and Green Energy have dropped their TIDE tariff) Can I take on an Economy 7 tariff using a smart meter?

My elderly parents have been charged £10 for reading their electric meter.

My pre-payment electric meter is still saying £550 in credit, when I Top-Up £10 it puts £100 on ?This was supposed to be sorted in the “coming days” according to OVO reply, that was nearly a month ago?I can’t keep a true track on my usage and Top-Up its very worrying PLEASE SORT THIS OUT i can’t seem to contact anyone?? No email, Phone a waste of time, don’t do Facebook or anything like that.

We don’t have a smart home, and can’t do much more to insulate it: parts are 200 years old, and the walls are a combination of thick rubble-filled stone and more recent block-work without continuous cavities. Currently we have a gas boiler for heating. On a hillside without suitable lawn etc for ground source heat pump. But we DO have a well. Not sure of the exact depth, but between 5 and 10 metres, with water surface about 3-4 metres below ground level. We don’t use the water for anything as we suspect heavy metal contamination from nearby lead mines. Is there any way this could be incorporated usefully in a ground-source heat pump? 

My IHD3 is not updating. Spoke to someone on their chat who said they would try to manually update it and I should give it 24 hours. Now some 48 hours later it is still showing the old tariff. Should I contact them again?

I have checked my latest bill (July to October) and I just can’t understand it. My flat runs only on electricity, and there’s a section with my tariff information and the cost for the standard charge and unit. There’s only one price amount for each, which I take is the same rate for any time of the day.However, when looking at the usage, there are different amounts calculated for both. From July to September, I’ve being charged a completely different amount per unit, plus 2 different standing charges applicable to different number of days. I know the overall charges were different then, but this information is still different to my tariff costs then.Then, from the 1st to 6th of October there’s, again, a different cost per unit from my tariff information, and yet again 2 different standing charges, one applicable to 2 days and another one to 3 days. Not even adding the 5% VAT can I make sense of those prices. Could anyone please be kind enough to explain what is going on?Many thanks

My S1 meter has been enrolled onto the S2 database. This meant my In Home Display stopped working. I have been told that this is an industry issue. When do we think this might be fixed and what do I need to do?

why does the daily use on online account not update reasonably early it used to update about 08.30 it is now 10.22 and still not updated. I use this to see how much I have used during the day I also keep an eye ion the IHD but it would be nice to see it updated earlier.  

I'm concerned that my meters over charging me it's a smart meter so readings are automatically sent. Every month I've been getting charged £100 for gas and £50 or less for electric. I'm in a small one bed room flat only the heating uses the gas nothing else so how on earth is it that high 😬

Does the 2 year contract calculation of direct debit amount take into account any credit on my account? If it is not taken into account the renewal direct debit is too high.

The clock on my very old economy 7 meter stopped working.  I informed Ovo and they arranged for a new meter - I was told it would be smart.  When the fitter left he told me it wasn’t smart.  Waited nearly 3 months for it.He mentioned economy 7 as an issue - but other threads say they are available.Can someone explain - I’m disappointed !!Has anyone else got a smart economy 7 meter ?Ovo customer for a lot of years

We’ve just had gas and electricity smart meters installed.  The Trio II monitor display looks correct for the current electricity usage, with the needle moving as lights are switched on/off.  When the gas boiler was heating the water, the monitor was showing £0.99/hr, which I took to be ok.  But for some time after the boiler went off, (we heat the water for an hour at lunchtime), it continued to show current usage of £0.99/hr.  Then, it suddenly went up the £4.56/hr, even though the boiler was no longer running.  The central heating is not on, and our gas fire is hardly ever used.To be fair, the total amount spent for today has not risen over the last hour, so I’m comforted by that.  But I’m still concerned that the current usage display is still showing a high amount.Many thanks for any insights you can give.

Hello,Landis+GYR E470 electricity meter beepingPlease please help! Day two of this darn meter beeping and I can't even escape it because I live in a small flat! It's 1.35am... this meter is driving me nuts!On the digital display thing I've also increased the budget as per one of the conversations on here. This hasn't worked... It's still beeping.I've had the smart meter for a couple of years with no problems. I genuinely don't understand how to stop the beeping.Who takes responsibility for the unit? British Gas installed it but I'm now with BULB.Please please make the beeping stop!Thanks,Nirmita

Hi there,I am considering switching from DD to pay on receipt of my bill. I know there’s a slight increase for doing it this way.  my question is, once I do this can I then get OVO to refund my my credit on the account I would rather do this than use the credit to pay my next bills until my credit runs out. is this an option?

Hi all, I’m purchasing a detached former guest house that has been converted into 7 small flats.  Presently, there is 1 electric meter and 7 submeters in the various flats (all PAYG, 5 card, 2 coin-operated).  Each flat has its own consumer unit, some quite old.  An electrician has confirmed I have 3 phase coming in from the street to the building.  Ovo is the supplier. I want to make each of the flats self-contained, replacing the submeters with their own smartmeters and convert the current meter to be a landlord meter covering the common parts of the building. I dont think i need SSEN to be involved but I presume some coordination is required between an electrician and Ovo (as Ovo will own and have to install the new smart meters?)?  Would be very grateful for more experienced members views on how to plan and sequence this, and the timeframes involved please?! (I attach a photo of the existing meter setup)THANK YOU in advance!!PT 

Good evening.  Re Smart Meters.  I understand the theory behind them - and the “target date legislation”, but how problem free are they? I hear & read about a lot of issues e.g. long commissioning times, incorrect readings, only reading gas or electricity and not both, incorrect billing… So how reliable are these things?

Does the smart meter need to be plugged in all the time? As soon as I unplug mine it starts to beep practically straight away so is this the way they are meant to be? Cheers Jess 

My understanding is that a lot of energy companies hedge against energy price rises by trading in financial Futures whereby they purchase either gas or electricity at a fixed price for physical delivery at some point in the future.  This helps them to hedge price risk by locking the cost of their underlying energy at cheaper rates.  My question is are OVO doing this to mitigate price increases for their customers?  Surely by buying cheap energy in advance, OVO can hold prices at a reasonable level for their customers.  I’d be interested to know what OVO have in place to help mitigate price risk.  

 My SSE/Ovo friend is eligible for the ECO3 scheme, but there is nowhere on this site which has contact details (email or phone) to discuss his requirements . Why not?

My Gas/Electricity plan is up for renewal… If I switch to OVO can I get a SMETS2 Smart Meter installed if I already have a SMETS1?My SMETS1 is effectively useless now and I want to get it replaced with a SMETS2 so I can stop doing manual readings.

Since having Smart Meters fitted, I have TOTALLY regretted it!   With the previous meters you knew exactly the times when Economy 7 came on and went off, (1 hour earlier in winter GMT time).  With Smart Meters the variation of times with E7 on and off, is vast!  Sometimes the E7 stays on up to 9.20am and other times the E7 goes off at 6.40am BST, 1 hour earlier in winter GMT.  With older heaters like mine that are over 30 years old, the heat retention is not very good, and if the heater goes off at 5.40am GMT, later in the afternoon they are barely warm, and almost cold in the evening.  The timings of Smart Meters are highly unreliable, definitely NOT suitable for Storage Heated homes with older heaters. IN MY VIEW THIS IS A TOTAL FAILURE OF TECHNOLOGY.  I will demand to have previous meters restored!  I am a 72 yo man with health problems, and heating technology that is USELESS!

Dear Ovo Forum A difficult Q - which I hope few have to face. Our Photovoltaic (PV) panel installer has failed, before they applied for registration of the system with the designated network operator (DNO). No energy provider can get the system registered, before commencing the SEG (smart export guarantee), UNTIL the installer applies/notifies the DNO (using a Form G98 or G99) of the installation. Help?! What to do if the installer fails to make the application (either because of incompetence or they cease trading)?
