Power Move

Hi does anyone know if there will be an autumn challenge this year (just a little concerned that I’ve been left out of the loop - if there is a loop)

Is there a way of asking Ovo to show me their Power Move calculations? I work out my usage and percentage, based on the data available to me on the Usage page of my account, and compare it to Ovo’s mid-month and end of month figure. The mid-august figure, received by email today, is wildly different from mine. We never agree exactly, but we’re usually pretty close. I’ve double checked my figures and I think they are right.

Power Move terms also apply. As a single pensioner I have never used appliances during peak time, apart from the electric oven a few days a week to cook a meal. The only way I could reduce usage is to eat before 4pm, too early, or after 7 pm, too late! Some meals I can cook on gas hob or in microwave but that doesn’t reduce usage enough. Any suggestions anyone?

Why did I get an email from ovo saying I need to have at least 14 weekday readings, so do not qualify last month even though I can see 18 weekday,listing of Half hourly readings, for the month?

I’ve hit the power Move targets for a number of months now, and had the emails to confirm this. But I’ve not noticed any credits put onto my meter. I’ve asked OVO via online chat, and they said they can’t view Power move on my account, then fobbed me off with a link to the app , which I already have. Where and when do the Power Move credits get added, and where can I chaeck this for myself please?

Hi, sorry if I'm thick but should I be trying to use more electric between 6pm and 9pm or trying not to I'm really confused

Does anyone have an email for the power move team? I'm going around in circles! One team even wanted to log a complaint which I had not asked them to do! All I want is the monthly update emails as I'm not getting them and they are not in junk folder! Thanks Alison

If the point of ‘PowerMove’ is to shuffle power usage away from the peak 4-7pm weekday times surely it makes no sense not to count weekend usage when calculating target averages. If over the course of a whole month I’ve shuffled a significant amount of laundry, batch cooking and other power intensive chores away from weekdays and into the weekend - but Saturdays and Sundays are ignored when calculations are made - then my actual monthly off-peak average isn’t being accurately recorded for the purposes of meeting the target. In order to reach the target I need to shuffle usage in a 24 hour window, 5 days per week - rather than across the week as a whole - and concentrate usage to off-peak hours during the week … if this is about changing habits, surely whole week, or even whole month usage needs to be included when calculating averages … or am I missing something ?

I get that the idea is to lower usage overall, which is fine. But I already struggle to pay my bills, and so I’ve already cut down anything and everything I can: I use the washing machine once every two weeks, after 11pm I shower once a week, as fast as possible, after 11pm I’ve turned off the boiler completely I use the oven once every 2 weeks I have a single small light I use when it gets dark I have a single small electric heater, which I use as little as possible I keep myself warm at night with a warm water bottle and extra sheets, which is much better than heating or even a heated blanket I don’t have a tumble dryer Everything is turned off at the socket at all times, except for the fridge, the smart meter, and the doorbell To make it worse, I work from home, so I’m home a lot. But also, where I live, shops close at 3pm, so if I do go out, it’s before that time - almost ascertaining I’ll be home between 4 & 7. Not always, but usually. I’d love a £15 discount. We’ve been on Power Move for many months without hitting the target. However, last month we used virtually no power at all - we were on holiday and the house was empty. This is the email we received: During June your smart meter failed to send us readings at certain times, so we couldn’t see the full picture of your electricity use. Unfortunately this means you won’t receive a Power Move credit this month. Has anyone else received this email? Has anyone actually got the credit for achieving Power Move or is it a con?

I’m guessing it’s impossible for me to hit my target for power move when I WFH? I didn’t hit last month n that was with being on holiday for a week as well. I WFH most weeks I finish around 4pm/5pm but there’s a week I work until 8pm so my laptop is on. Other than that I have nothing else on, I freeze in the office, I don’t have my heading in. I love myself in a small 1 bedroom flat, there is nothing on in any other room at all until I finish at 8. When I finish at 4 I usually go out to another job n I’m not home till after 7 so no tv anything on then either but said I’m 20.65 percent. I do 1 was a week outside 4-7pm!! How is this soo bloomin impossible??? 😭

Apologies if this has been answered previously. I am pasting my chat with OVO social media in regards to my question, which they stated they couldn’t answer on the social media team. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on it, I can’t be the only one affected by it. Hello, With regards to the Power Move...when the clocks went forward on March 31, the system wasn't caught up and still records my usage an hour earlier. Therefore, the current Power Move times are between 6pm-9pm which I have been adhering to. However, as the system is still 1 hour out, it means that my Power Move times are unknown and possibly between 7pm and 10pm. Are you able to confirm please if I am on target to get the Power Move reward, I shouldn't be penalised because of a system fault at OVO's end. If I should treat the Power Move hours as 7-10pm, I am struggling with that. It's a big leap from the previous 4-7pm which was entirely doable. 7-10pm is not though for me, as I need to take nutrition with my medicati

The spring challenge is advertised as beginning on 1 April. This is a bank holiday. Is it included, or is this an oversight - or an April Fool? chris

Does anyone know if today (bank holiday) counts as a weekend or is it just treated as a regular Monday. (On the trial the Xmas bank hols were treated like a weekend - but I don't know if that was just a bit of Xmas spirit or if it applies to all bank hols)

I was on holiday between the 4th and 24th February. I left a fridge freezer and a seperate freezer running obviously. All other appliances were unplugged including the internet. Ovo have e mailed to say my average useage was 17.75% higher than what was required to hit my target. Perhaps I have should have moved out for the extra 9 days. I think we are being hoodwinked !

Anyone get any of the energy saving kits? The smart sockets /plug adapters in particular.. do you use them? What do you use them for .. or are they in a drawer somewhere?

I take part in Power Move and usually achieve some sort of return. It has changed when I use energy, trying to move away from heavy demand during peak times. Since owning an EV, this has had an impact on Power Move. I use the ChargeAnytime app to obtain discounted energy for the EV. It does not care about the time of day for charging, simply when energy in the grid is at its greenest (from my current understanding). Given that ChargeAnytime integrates with an EV charger or the EV itself why does it not automatically schedule charging to also avoid these times? When we get back from work (usually between the 4 and 7 window) we just plug the car in. Just seems like a really simple change to assist spreading energy demand.

Probably too late to ask, but the thought has occurred. Having consistently failed to meet the reduction target, despite being moderately diligent between 4pm and 7pm, the thought occurred that perhaps our solar generation has skewed the results. Other than the fridge freezer, central heating pump and a few lights there has been little consumption during the trial hours. We have deferred using the oven, doing any washing and boiling the kettle until after 7pm. Can anyone confirm how the overall power consumption through the month has been measured, with particular emphasis on whether internally generated PV of, say, 2KWh on a bright day will have made a difference to the trial calculation ?

This is going to be used by absolutely nobody but just in case… I’ve found I’m outside the target to get any power move credit this month and I wondered how far off I was after getting the mid-month email. I went to each daily page and was totting up the kwh used between 4 and 6.30. What a nightmare. So I wrote a tiny bit of javascript that’ll do it automatically. You still have to paste the result and total day’s usage into a spreadsheet. Like I said. Niche. “Yeahhhh, riiiight” is definitely a valid response to this.

I did ask the question previously, ‘how many people actually achieve their target’. I was even away for a month with only the freezer on and everything in the house switched off and unplugged, I still didn’t achieve the Target!!! The only good thing from this exercise is that we take care throughout the day with our energy usage. I don’t want to spend more in the day to try and benefit for 3 hours! Just received the email for December PM and it said I used 13.69% over the month. This does not match my spreadsheet that calculated 12.70% for December. By backwards analysis, it appears that they are including Boxing Day as a normal week day, as if I force my spreadsheet to include it, it totals 13.70%, 0.01% off their email value. I called ovo and they have opened a ticket to investigate and a complaint as something is going wrong with their system. Their call handler worryingly stated that bank holidays are not excluded, so I swiftly pointed them to their own T&Cs, which they then agreed with, but then stated Christmas day is a national holiday and not a bank holiday, to which I directed them to Gov.uk which says it is a bank holiday too. Please check your spreadsheets to make sure you haven't been wronged too!

Calculating your Power Move base load. Assuming your base load is fairly constant at 1 unit per hour (if it's lower (or higher) it doesn't matter, cos it will drop out of the calculations latter on. If your base load is the same day and night then your initial Power Move percentage is 3/24 = 12.5% (and your total load is 24 units).
