Want to know more about Power Move?

We want to reward our customers for taking positive actions to reduce their carbon footprint. Power Move offers you the opportunity to be rewarded for shifting your electricity usage either out of peak times of the day, or shifting it to greener times.

Power Move is a series of quarterly challenges that will be set by OVO based on what time of year it is, how the seasons affect energy usage and the knock on environmental impact. The target and reward value will change for each challenge.

How can I get Power Move?

Power Move is available to all OVO Energy customers who meet the eligibility criteria (see FAQ 11). You can opt into Power Move via your online account. You can sign up to Power Move at any time and your access to Power Move will start the day that you sign up. If you sign up part way through the month of any challenge, your reward will be prorated for that first month based on the date you signed up.

We’ve made a full set of frequently asked questions with answers here. We’ve also created a page listing the Power Move terms and conditions

Is your question not covered in the FAQs? Post it below and we’ll get you an answer.

Two questions to begin.

  1. The previous challenges excluded customers with solar panels. Does this still apply?
  1. Are these challenges OVO specific or are they still tied into National Grid meaning that you can only take part in one scheme?

Moving power usage is great - we do it currently with the car and the OVO smart charging scheme, but on it’s own, power move doesn’t mean power reduction (which until we’re 100% using wind etc then has to be another target) - how does this tie in with encouraging people to use less power overall (apart from the obvious answer - cost!). Bit of a challenge this one as it goes against the corporate aim of the company - to make money from supplying power to customers. :)

Will the challenges be achievable this time. I gave up after the 1st month as it was just unachievable.  We did watch our energy usage and changed things but in the end no reward at all with the ever increasing rise in costs!

Generally using power is not the current issue, it’s using renewable power, hence the Power Move
Of course, households may well want to reduce power consumption generally but from what I’ve seen over the last year or so, that seems to be happening by default due to pricing.
My own view is that I expect Time of Use tariffs to become the norm and that peak use will be more expensive anyway. People usually wait for a financial reason to change habit.

I’m a bit puzzled as I have not managed to find anywhere on my login to my account whether there is a PowerMove option open - I was part of the recent trial, and have had a few emails, so would be grateful to know if I am missing seeing the button to click!

I don’t believe they have launched any of the challenges yet @AliM199

Ah! Thank you - I wondered if that was the case but it’s easy to overlook the obvious on a website I’ve discovered!

I can see the first challenge now @AliM199 via my account.

I can see the first challenge now … via my account.

Where?

One thing missing from both this post and the FAQ is pretty basic: how to get started. It doesn’t say anywhere that I have to wait to be invited, although that seems to be the case.

Via ‘Path to Zero’ …

Nope, can’t see anything like that anywhere.

Nor me - is this on the side panel menu (I have home, meter readings, billing history, offers etc) or how did you find it?!

When I log in (online) I see this

I also see an option via the menu

I don’t see an option via the app

@Firedog @AliM199 can you reach this page?

https://account.ovoenergy.com/power-move

Nope:

Its parent page (Path to Zero - OVO Energy) is a bit bare, too:

I wonder whether it’s because my usage pattern suggests that there’s nothing much to be shifted. For example, the period 4-7 PM is 12.5% of the day. My average consumption in this period in June was 12.4% of the daily total. What challenges are available to you?

There’s just one at the minute running from now until the end of September

Summer challenge

1 July to 1 October

Lower electricity use,
Monday to Friday,
4pm to 7pm

Target

Use 12.5% or less of your home’s total daily electricity between these times.

QED 😊

I think I should get a reward for having met this target without requiring OVO to set up a complicated system to persuade me to.

I’m also unable to access anything about the latest Power Move - when I follow the web link it just comes up with the ‘Oops, there’s a problem’ message.

Hey @Brizzles55,

Does it work when you follow the link through this webpage:

No - this just takes me to an old page telling me that Power Move is coming soon and prompts me to login to my account page where there are no links to Power Move.

Others have posted this link https://account.ovoenergy.com/power-move  which takes me to the ‘Oops, there’s a problem’ message.

Hey @Brizzles55,

This is being rolled out to eligible customers right now, so keep an eye out for it in your account. If you can’t see the link yet, check back soon. We’ll send an email invite as soon as it’s available to everyone.

Hi @Emmanuelle_OVO  - can you tell me what makes an “eligible customer” please.  I was part of the 6 month power move trial (which did take effort) but I don't seem to, as yet, be eligible to partake in this new Power Move Path To Zero. I don't understand what made me eligible for 1 and not the other.

Hi @decroisic

I’ve just updated the main post to confirm that Power Move isn’t being shown on the online accounts of everyone that’s eligible (FAQ 11 lists eligibility) right now. If you can’t see the link yet, check back soon. We’ll send an email invite as soon as it’s available to everyone.

Just to say that I didn’t get an email but I did see the option online (not on the app).

Also, I can’t see on the FAQ’s but do you have to hit the target on every appropriate day or is there an aggregation over each month?
