June’s Community Highlights: Celebrating our top contributors

Welcome to July’s Community Rewards and Recognition! It’s been another fantastic month on the forum, and we’ve seen some incredible contributions that have helped shape our services and support other users.

It’s always fun for the whole OVO Forum team to find some new and exciting way our users have managed to engage and support the wider community. This month was no different. 

So, here it is:

🌟 Member of the Month: ​@Johnny Thunders 

A massive congratulations to our ​@Johnny Thunders who has been heavily involved and highly active in one of our private feedback groups for the new PAYG in the OVO app integrations.

For a bit of context, with the merging of our PAYG app into the existing OVO app, we called on some of our incredible customers to take part in a hidden direct feedback group (which we’re trying to do more and more of). 

Johnny has consistently raised important concerns regarding interface fixes, asked critical questions about the functioning of the app integration, and provided invaluable user experience feedback directly to our internal teams. All of this regular interaction has ensured a healthy flow of feedback, questions, and data, which has been instrumental in helping our PAYG teams get ahead of potential issues, plan updates, and brainstorm new ideas as the app integration continues to develop. Thank you so much for your dedication!

Now, unfortunately, we cannot link to any of the examples of Johnny’s contributions as they’re held within an invite only group. However, we felt it was important to also call out the incredible support and engagement from our community even when everyone can’t always see it.

🥈 Runners-up: ​@MikeWilliams & ​@Nigel Ainscoe 

Our runners-up this month are two users who have gone above and beyond to support the wider community with their technical know-how!

Over on our smart meter data threads, users have frequently asked for a simpler way to bulk-download their historic usage data. ​@MikeWilliams stepped up to the plate and created a brilliant open-source API utility on GitHub. His project securely connects to the online account and automatically exports complex, half-hourly, and daily smart meter data into a clean, readable CSV file. This tool has been a massive help to the community, allowing users to:

• Easily track their energy habits over months or years in Excel or Google Sheets.
• Accurately calculate peak vs. off-peak usage (a huge win for EV owners and those on Time of Use tariffs!).
• Take deeper control of their data and energy tracking.

Because Mike made this project open-source, it allowed ​@Nigel Ainscoe to step in and build upon that foundational work. Nigel adapted the project into a local web-app version, making this incredibly useful tool accessible to users who might be less tech-savvy.

The collaborative efforts from both of these users have been the absolute definition of 'Scholars', giving people the tools they need to better understand their energy usage. Thank you both for your fantastic contributions! You’ll both be seeing a new badge appearing on your profiles for your effort.
