Here’s the latest on our new electric vehicle charging type-of-use plan

We’ve relaunched Anytime as Charge Anytime. It’s not only a new name, we’ve made some updates to the product and we want to tell you all about it…

See our Charge Anytime product page here

What are the headline facts about Charge Anytime?

  • Smart charge your electric vehicle for 7p per kWh whenever you need to,
  • Now available to be added to any OVO plan, including electric-only households,
  • Intelligently optimises your charge for when the energy is at its greenest.*

Am I eligible?

You can see all eligibility details in our Charge Anytime page here.

  • You must be an OVO Energy customer and have an eligible car or charger. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility of this product to more EV models and chargers, so if you don’t see your tech here, keep an eye on our page.
  • Right now, solar panels aren’t compatible with Charge Anytime (unless you have an Indra Pro Smart Charger). But we’re working on making this happen soon.

Our customers and trialists have really played a huge role in shaping Charge Anytime, not least the members of this forum. Leave a comment below if you have any questions, feedback and to let us know if you’ll be adding Charge Anytime to your OVO plan.

*Our smart tech will aim to charge your car at a time when the grid has more renewable energy in it. Meaning it’s less likely your EV will be charged by energy from fossil fuels.

Perhaps this might help

Heres what the DCC says

https://www.smartdcc.co.uk/our-smart-network/current-programmes/smets1-enrolment-and-adoption/

Can’t remember who you’re with but it might be worth a try to switch and upgrade

Interesting that the results say that you can switch to a supplier who can support your meter in smart mode, so it may be worth making enquiries with other suppliers to see if they will be able to get the readings. I assume no data is getting as far as the DCC system? (check using n3rgy.com)

Does BPLightogs advice help @fluffy1234?

I've recently purchased a Mazda MX30 EV, but can't see it on the list of approved EV for OVO's EV tariff. Does anyone know if the lost of approved EV's gets updated periodically, or if Mazda's EV is excluded for a particular reason? Thanks!

Howdy @AdamJS ,

The list gets updated whenever new EVs are added to the supported list.

What Charger do you have? That might work instead.

I have had ,still have, 2 EV’s that when I bought them were not on the list but I have a charger approved by OVO it is an Indra smart pro and works with OVO charge anytime.

it is not the only one that OVO recommend, new EV’s are coming on to the market in huge quantities with makes nobody has heard of, mostly from China but the technology is much the same on everyone.

Your Mazda should not have a problem, subject to the charger.

Thanks Blastoise, I don't have a charger yet, as its my first EV, so I'm yet to get one. Are there any which are recommended for compatability with OVO etc?

Hi Nick, thanks for the response! When I was trying to view EV tariffs earlier it wouldn't let me get past the 'Select vehicle' stage, so I never got as far as a charger. As I said in my reply to Blastoise, I haven't got a charger yet as its my first EV, so I'd love to know any recommendations which work best with energy providers. Thanks again!

Yup! You’ll want Ohme or Indra, the full list is here. If you have Solar Panels, you must go Indra. Otherwise, it’s up to you.

Hey @AdamJS

Welcome to the Forum

Congrats on your new EV!🔌

Some of our community members have left some really helpful advice here already for you but I just wanted to add a few things that may also be useful to you.

You can view our full list of compatible EVs and smart chargers here, and as mentioned already, we’re always looking to grow our compatibility and add new EVs and chargers so always keep an eye on the list for new additions.

I hope this has been helpful, if you opt to go for a compatible charger, feel free to share your experience with us and for others who may be in a similar situation as yourself.🙂

Any plans on adding Volvo EX30 to the list

We’ve only gone & done it !!!

Well Mrs TT has🤭

Only gone bought a BEV 🔋

The jury is still undecided if I will I miss having the equivalent petrol or diesel model.

On the plus side, I can make use of charge anytime while I make my mind up,

as all will be compatible with Ovo.

There is no specific timeline for if/when a particular EV will become supported. It’s up to the manufacturer to want to play ball too.

Hi @TomThumb,

Congratulations on your new electric vehicle. I’ve given you an EV badge to mark the occasion!

Cheers @Shads_OVO

Not got either the car or charger installed yet. But soon.

All being well, we should get the new car by the end of April or very early in May.

No date on the home charger installation.

I know the ohme charger is compatible with ovo’s charge anytime, once it’s installed,

but as we have only just had the initial survey done on the home electrical supply, time is running short to get the charge point installed in time.

As I’ve no experience as yet to home charging an ev.

A: would there be a preferred smart connection for charge anytime, ie: the vehicle or the charger?

(I’m guessing both will achieve the same thing, but the functionality will vary)

B: if I initially used the car’s smart charging features (don’t know if it has any such thing yet) via a granny 3pin connection?

Could I swap to the chargers (ohme) smart controller with ease once the charger is installed?

Tia

Tom…

A: Charger! Always! :)

B: This is possible, but not recommended. Charge Anytime expects the EV to be able to charge at the maximum possible rate at any given time. Granny Chargers rarely provide this, so you may find yourself unable to get a full charge in some cases. If possible, a dedicated EV Charger is always going to be the best option.

C: It should be possible to swap the control from EV to Charger if memory serves. But please get the Charge Anytime team to help with that - they’ll need to do some stuff with magic dashboards before you can connect the Charger, after which they’ll advise on the next steps.

Thanks for the info bud @Blastoise186

I am hopeful that the charger will be installed before we take delivery of the car, but with my luck of late (all bad🤭) I’m covering all bases

As always: much appreciated of  forum & yourself.

Hi, first post so be kind 😁.

Just had ohme Epod installed - charges okay.

Registered charger fine in ohme app, but it didn't like selecting OVO as supplier, so used manual add tariff ok.

Set a short charge by okay.

Ovo app in "my ev" can't connect to charger.

So I ended up deleting acc on ohme app, and unregister for anytime add on.

Re did it all, still same and now no cheap rate.

Ohme said it's because ovo still attached to first attempt account.

How do I make work with OVO properly please?

Cheers

M

Howdy @Mjf001 ,

The Charge Anytime team should be able to help you fix this. If you ping them an email to chargeanytime@ovoenergy.com , they’ll take a look.

That team works closely with the Forum, so if you give them a link to this thread, they’ll be able to see the discussion here too.

Thank you, I did that and got an automated response saying 3-5 day response time 😔

They’ll be in touch as soon as they can - you might find it’s actually a bit faster though.

If you don’t get a response by this time next week, let us know here and we’ll try to figure something out.
