Can anyone explain what’s going on here?

Opening balance was £335, we used around £90 worth of electric/gas combined (£66 government payment was taken off this, hence the £22 charge), I paid £150 so by my reckoning the balance should have gone up by around £125.

It hasn’t though - they seem to have then deducted the £66 again.

Does anyone know why? Do I need to contact them or will it right itself?

The £66 Government help has been deducted from my energy account and sent out to my bank as a refund.

(- £66) I paid my usual direct debit which is the only recent credit on the account, after last months direct debit.

The next day I reveived £66 back.

So where is my Government help?? I will be £400 down on my account this winter if Ovo continue to refund me from my own money.

I just wonder if anyone else has had the same happen & maybe not realised that the £66 has not gone in on their energy account from the Government first.

Hiya!

It sounds like you’ve had the credits so far. The -£66 thing is an account credit, not a charge.

If you still feel that you’ve not had the credits and they don’t show at all under Charges in detail, please call 0330 303 5063.

Thanks. Ive had no credit on the account at all.

Ive checked everywhere & my week to week balance does not include it either.

I will need to speak to them then.

Thank you

@Needinfo if you look at your ‘charges in detail’ is there an entry for Energy Bill Support Scheme -£66 ? if it’s there it’s reducing your charges by £66 ie that’s the payment from the government.

Thank you. I was just compiling my info to ring when I added my last months usage up I have realised the - £66 in the charges section is deducting the government help in that section!

Because I expected that to be a +£66 instead of a minus (which would be much better for people to see it's received) My brain did not compute it as a +( which it is!)🥴

Having seen many a post here & there many are assuming it should be a 'credit'  + which it is but in reverse as it's a deduction off charges.

Thank you for this help.

It was driving me nuts🤣

Good to hear it is sorted. It is not the easiest thing to spot. A lot of us went through the same thing in our heads when we got out first payment 😊

Why has £66 be taken from my account?? As far as I was aware I pay the DD like normal then a few say later I get £66 in my bank account. My balance should stay the same.

So why is my balance £66 less?? They can't use my own money to put in my bank.

Did you ever get an answer for this as it’s happening to me they are taking £66 from my OVO account to pay into my bank account!! No credit of £66 just refund off £66 into my bank?

Have a look at this @kaylar1605

Thank you I have looked at this and I still only have £66 minus of my account no credit when I’ve added and minus everything is works out I have been minus of £66 no credit to my account

I've not had the credit either. . !!  Edited to say in my ovo account.  Just the minus. I really don't get it.

Me neither as when I add all my bill up with charges and what I’ve paid etc the £66 is definitely minus as it’s made me £66 in debt haha

Can you show a screenshot of your balance ? Like this

Then under See details something like this

Also this £294.73 is a balance adjustment from when moved from sse I’m currently arguing this as I’ve always given meter reading each month to see so I know it was an actual reading not estimates xx

Thanks @kaylar1605 And what does it say under Charges Breakdown?

That’s what’s on my charges breakdown

Hi @kaylar1605 post the same screen as above but for the previous month, not the current month.

Hi @kaylar1605 the line

Energy Bill Support Scheme - £66

Is the money going into your account. It is on the first screen shot in your post above.

It is a negative charge, so a credit, so £66 being added to your account.

On your current bill you have already seen the Refund line which is the money leaving your account which you highlighted in a previous post.

It can be confusing, especially with the information across two billing periods.

There is more information here in case it helps

Keep an eye out for similar lines for your next Energy Bill Support Scheme Payment.

I still don’t understand it as I should only owe £30 something and now it’s £100 because the minus £66 why don’t they just credit our OVO account that’s it don’t know why they put into our bank accounts because now I have to pay it back to my OVO because £116 DD isn’t going to cover it by the end of the month so really my DD should be higher then but by the bill looks like we hardly use any electric and gas so why so much they charge me? I am really confused and I think I will have to switch provider and have pay as you go smart meters as it’s giving me bad anxiety over it and I don’t suffer with anxiety but I do when it comes to being in debt I don’t like it

I too was puzzled by their summary display.

In the app the summary page shows "total" charges, but then you have to look in detail. How they got that number on the energy statement as they apparently deduct £66 there.

So the £79 shown on my bill, was actually £145 on the energy costs minus £66.

My credit would have been increased by £50 as this month they 3x my DD as well. I think it's going to distort their display if historic  costs which I use to compare last year and this year.

@kaylar1605 about half the suppliers have chosen to do it like OVO, other half simply took the money off the direct debits.

I definitely wouldn't recommend switching until you have sorted out that balance adjustment, it will be very hard to get that back if you switch. Definitely wait till that is sorted if you want to switch.

It is that Balancing payment that is causing the issue. Without that you would be in credit and your direct debit covers  your usage as you say. Is OVO investigating the Balance payment for you?

Personally i would also be wary of switching to pay as you go. It will work out much more expensive.

Another £66 Energy Bill Support Scheme payment should appear before the end of this period, watch out for that.

I would like to know if I have Energy and gas from your ovo Campany, do you send the vauchers that are awarded from the government to a given address or do I have my name and surname on me So that I can get Such vauchers. Thank you.
