Can anyone explain what’s going on here?

Opening balance was £335, we used around £90 worth of electric/gas combined (£66 government payment was taken off this, hence the £22 charge), I paid £150 so by my reckoning the balance should have gone up by around £125.

It hasn’t though - they seem to have then deducted the £66 again.

Does anyone know why? Do I need to contact them or will it right itself?

Can only see this:

@aviatormja

That's the current period.

Do the same for

25 Sep 2022 to 24 Oct 2022

I think you might find that you have the credit @aviatormja but as others seem to have found, the credit is paid into your own account, as all suppliers have been instructed, giving you the option to use as you wish.
It took me a while to follow this through but I can now see how it adds up

Yes there is a credit in my bank, mentioned that earlier. But as this ‘refund’ has been directly cancelled out by charging it back to me as my screen shots, pleas explain where the benefit is?!
As I say, it’s zero’s out and the proposed credit doesn’t actually exist.

@Jeffus see below. Still nothing. Am yet to be convinced that any credit has actually ever been made to my account.  Appreciate your time though.

Ah wait, yes can see it now…….

It may have been paid into your account in the billing period 25sept to 24oct. Have a look in details for then…🥳🥳👏🏻👏🏻

@Jeffus can see it now, and thank you for the pointers.

it only begs the question why, if this is being done, do OVO go to all the trouble and confusion of even doing the bank refund and debit arrangement afterwards?

Just leaving as shown in the workings is good enough, surely?!

thanks again for your time, it’s finally put my mind at rest.

I was equally confused about my £66 not helped by the fact that I immediately paid it back into my OVO account! But you'll find they have reduced your bill by £66 and made the whole thing unbelievably confusing. Other companies I have heard about so far   do reduce the DD by £66 which helps.

Glad we have been able to help

I have to say, I'm not impressed with Ovo. I never had all this confusion with SSE. The Bill's were simple and it was always easy to speak to someone.

It’s actually much more transparent with OVO, especially if you use the web version of MyOVO and the new Account Management Teams are an OVO exclusive. I get through in an average of 30 seconds!

You just need to get used to it!

My account is also in credit, like the one on the screenshot. I also have a "refund" of £66 showing, but my Credit amount on my bill DID NOT INCREASE as U expected it would! I got £66 paid into my bank account therefore I've paid myself via a refund from my OVO credit balance! I haven't actually received any money from the Government! £66 was taken from my Credit & put into my bank account!?????

Therefore my account Credit was reduced to pay £66 into my bank! My DD hasn't changed & is up to date - MY money is going around in circles!

Paul Ivor - looks like you're on a winner - your usage is going into your balance lol

Please show us your current and last three billing cycles from MyOVO @Linda22 . We can check this for you but you must show us the Charges in detail as well.

To be clear, you have NOT been refunded from your own credit!

Here’s examples.

Thanks. I've looked at the details & although they don't list it clearly with running totals, I think the usage has been reduced by the £66 for the month.

This could be listed more clearly on the bill as when you're in Credit it says "out" when really it should say "in" as extra credit!

Thanks for the explanation & help.

The word REFUND confused me

For the purposes of charges, IN means you had credits that outweighed the charges for that cycle. OUT means the charges outweighed any credits for that cycle.

Mistake by OVO  .. they deduct £66 from your credit balance and tell you they've put it in your bank account ... ok

So where is the £66 from the government?

Hi @engineertony ,

You might be reading it wrong. You’ll almost certainly have had £66 thrown into your OVO account prior to the refund to balance things out.

Show us your recent bills and we can help figure this out. No personal info please!

I have exactly the same problem. OVO what is going on please?

Same here Darren ... take £66 from your credit with OVO ... then tell you they've put it in your account .. your own money has gone into your own bank account ...  so where is the £66 from the government?

I found the £66 input after a long search by looking at the detail and the previous month’s results. The government payment is shown as a deduction to the energy cost. It’s there but hard to spot!

Correct Adrian ... hard to spot... they take £66 from the detailed energy bill. ... and £66 again from the point when they take it from your credit balance .... then put this one back to your bank account ...  accountants benefit somewhere?

It's ok Darren ... just confusing the customers ... they take £66 from your detailed energy bill .... then when you pay from any credit you have they take £66 again off your credit ... and then put £66 to your bank account … we're ok
