Only charging at 3.5kW

Has anyone else had trouble with charge anytime limiting charging to the car. I've set my car to charge overnight, with plenty of time to get to 100%, but when I check at 7am it's not fully charged. When I look in my charger log it's only been charging at 3.5kwh and not the full 7kwh, hence it's not fully charged. Is there a fix for this? 

When first plugged in, it charges at 7kW, but then when it stops and reschedules the charging for the middle of the night, it seems limited (probably by the car) to 3.5kw. If there isn't a fix for this, ita pretty useless, and given the rates are doubling to 14p/kW, it might be time to leave. 

 

I have an Audi Q4.

Sorry for the issues you’re having, this is a really frustrating one, and we’ve had the same thing reported before:

 

 

I’ve been looking on the e-tron Forum and have found this thread: https://www.e-tronforum.com/threads/unable-to-charge-car-to-100.8296/. In the thread someone has mentioned that, in the Audi app, you can turn off the battery conservation function which may stop this issue. They’ve also helpfully included screenshots of how to do this. If this doesn’t help it might also be worth contacting Audi to see if they’ve got any advice or workarounds. 

 

 

I hope this may help - please do let us know whether changing the settings in the Audi app makes any difference!

I hadn't come across anyone else with similar issues, so I decided to do a little research. It sounds like your charger or cable might be slowing things down since it’s a single-phase connection. Have you tried any other chargers, or have you just used the one at home? I found a really helpful Reddit article that talks about these same problems - Audi Q4 e-tron charging slowly on an 11kW charger – what am I doing wrong?

Hi Chris

It's neither the cable nor the charger, it's the charge anytime app and the car. When the app sends a timer to the car to charge at a certain point (normally way in the future, don't know why) the car will then only charge at a lower rate 3.5kw to protect the battery. It's perfectly capable of charging at 7kw and when not using the app, this is what it does. I need someway of overriding the app sending a timer so the car doesn't have the option to slow the charging rate down. It's a ballache trying to get the car charged fully using Charge Anytime these days.

The previous comment from a year ago was me!

It's not the Audi app or anything to do with that. I know what it is, but I cant fix it. Basically when the OVO app schedules when to start charging, the car limits the charge to 3.5kW as it thinks it's got days to charge the car so it does it on a trickle charge. Very very very frustrating.
