I've been going around in circles with OVO and SMS for the last 7 months trying to get a working smart meter.I've had multiple comms hubs and meters tried and none of them can connect.The engineer today brought with him an English comms hubs, but OVO refused him permission to install it.This is in the context of a very good solar system which generates a lot more electricity than I need and is currently being thrown away.I'm not in the Highlands of Scotland or anywhere remote, I'm in a village a few miles from Kinross near the M90. I do however live in an 18th century stone house with walls about a foot thick, I think the signal just can't get through the wall.Frustrated I am!

I would really like to join Ovo’s 15M extended fix tariff but having filled out all of my details, there is a term and condition that I need to have a smart meter fitted, "By signing up to our Extended Fixed plan, you’re agreeing to have a smart meter fitted (if you don’t already have one). We’ll contact you to arrange a suitable installation date for a smart meter to be installed in your property." Having read about the legality of forcing smart meters on people, I am unsure if this is something that Ovo can actually enforce? Given the fact that last time someone tried to change my gas meter, the fitter had to call Northern Gas Networks out and refit the old meter to prevent a leak, I am hesitant to allow this. I also live in the north of England and therefore would likely get the radio controlled meter, which is really said to be ineffective and not future proof. Also I have read elsewhere on your website 

We have recently moved supplier and have electricity on a credit tariff and our gas on PAYG. Usually the meter will show the standard three usage lights Green/ Amber and Red to show our energy usage, but all of a sudden it has lately being switching to a solid blue light (see image below) and the only way to return it to the standard usage lights, is to reboot the IHD, but his only works for a day or two before the blue light comes back. Is this a fault with the IHD? As you can see, it is still the same IHD that came with the original smart meter that we had installed (and still have) when we switched to a smart meter with our old supplier 

Hi. I have solar PV, GSHP, two Powerwall batteries and an electric car. Also have 3 phase power as building used to be a small guest house. What I need is a smart meter to take advantage of time based tariffs. Currently with Octopus but they have failed. The first smart meter could get no signal due to location. After 12 months I then got an AMR meter with an external aerial. Perfect signal. Octopus now say it can’t provide half hourly readings and in fact I will have to send monthly ones manually. Is this an octopus issue, AMR issue or something else? Help! 

My gas meter hasn’t sent readings since 5th May, was sent an email to do health check and after that I spoke to someone who said it all seemed fine and he pulled a reading up. Next morning no reading had gone through again and when I called was told it looked fine and was back to Coms (whatever that means), how can it be fine if not sent in 5 days, have had to do manually 

I’ve today received a postcard from Ovo:‘Ovo has been trying to contact you about your Radio Teleswitch (RTS) electricity meter’.NO, it hasn’t. First I’ve heard!  That makes me angry.Apparently our meter will be ‘switched off’ ‘from June’. Now they tell me?!Google tells me it is to fit a smart meter.We’ve had engineers try twice to fit one, but our CH boiler is in the way.Can anyone advise? 

These air to air heat pumps, I’ve heard they’re noisy. Is that right?

Since the price increases on 1st April my app & online account don't update as quickly as they did before. I know it always does take a few days to catch up after a  change in tariff prices so I ignored it for a week but it still takes until the evening to update the day befores usage & readings a month on. That includes the meter reading which is taken at midnight. Is this just me or did this change on 1st April & meant to be like this going forward?

So much for the government eco grant scheme like most of the eligible homes are in rural areas like ours in Wales cannot get a upgraded meter for excess solar energy, OVO will not install one in our home as there is not a decent wifi signal, really, well can we at least have a meter installed and give you the readings on any exported energy. Alternatively have a analogue meter installed.British Gas seems quite happy to go down this route, so why don’t OVO follow suit.

Just very curious as to how I managed to get into a £450 debt transferring to OVO when I have been using PAYG - literally Pay As You Go - top up meter for years??  Any ideas?  I do not have any other meters, accounts or residences, and I live in a studio flat alone!

Where I am ( Unst Shetland. ) we can only get a fully working EE signal in the house ( And that is with the aid of a signal booster. ) and I doubt we will get an  Arqiva  signal, since my understanding is that the nearest mast that supplies it is the Bressay Transmitter, which we cannot get a TV signal from as there are 2 big hills in the way. ( Unless I have an aerial some 200ft high, I’m not going to get a signal, no matter how big a booster I have. )I heard the other day there are some new smart meters that out operate using O2/Vodafone SIM’s, and a google search tends to indicate that they are not designed to work with EE, is that the case ?

This is our present THTC RTS setup. The meters are in an access corridor, the consumer units within the flat. I booked a smart meter appointment and OVO’s sub turned up in December and said a smart meter instal was impossible, grumbled about lack of communication about the instal he was going to and was meant to make a report to OVO. It appears that was sketchy as when I asked OVO about it, it didnt seem to give much detail. The installer did say 10-20% of installations were similar.  As nothing seemed to be happening I raised a complaint. I was then told OVO wanted me to at my expense instal blocks at the high rate consumer unit for them to connect to. When I asked for more detail they came b

Hi, I am looking to sign up to the £7 a month boiler servicing scheme. 2 questions. Is it a good scheme ?How long after signing up can you get your boiler serviced ? TIA 

We had a smart meter installed on Tuesday to replace the old THTC setup with Smart Economy 10. Everything has gone well so far - pleasant engineer, neat installation, heaters and hot water coming on at the right times, correct tariffs showing on the IHD at the correct times. I've been waiting for the new meter to show on my account and today it popped up, though the old heating meter still shows as well, and both readings from the smart meter are currently being allocated to "anytime". I'm not too worried about that as I assume it will eventually sort itself out.  What I'm wondering about is, on the meter itself TOU rate 1 is the peak rate and TOU rate 2 is the offpeak rate. But when I go to https://smartpaymapi.ovoenergy.com/orex/api/supply-points/account/<account number> I see that Tier 1 is labelled offpe

could someone tell me what are the Regulations that OVO requires all its representatives to comply with in the Code of Conduct please. 

Hello, we’ve recently (late Feb) had a dual tariff polyphase smart meter installed in response the RTS shutdown.  We have two phases as we have underfloor heating, so it has been a long protracted affair in getting our old legacy meters replaced with an Economy 7 polyphase compatible smart meter. This was done back in February, credit where credit’s due, the three phase trained OVO engineer was brilliant. The meter signals the off peak period to our underfloor heating controller, this has worked correctly since the switch. Just to be on the safe side, we took daily readings from our old meters just before the switch and daily afterwards so have a good idea on our daily consumption and to check for constancy old/new. We have the Kaifa MA329B We’ve been away for a few days and returned home last night and realised our new smart meter has stopped recording usage on the T2 tariff register. Having installed our solar panels, we applied to receive the OVO Smart energy guarantee payments and sent the requested initial export meter reading on the 12th July, which will be seven weeks ago tomorrow. We were told that we would receive the welcome email within four weeks from receiving this initial meter reading.Is it normal to have to wait this long? I cannot speak to the SEG team by phone and any email sent just gets a standard reply that a response will be within 15 days.Getting frustrated now Malcolm

I’ve read all the post on here that relate to this topic but have yet to see a definitive answer as to when there will be a solution for those of us transferred from SSE. The OVE web page https://www.ovoenergy.com/can-i-get-a-smart-meter still says they are not available. Given that the switch of is next year it doesn’t leave a lot of time t0 implement a solution.

Can OVO provide a new gas boiler? 

I cannot find any reference to the electricity pylon symbol  in any of the guides to theIHD 6 display .I am guessing it is indicating that the solar is exporting .any help on this would be good.

Hello…. Whats peps experience of getting refunds on smart PAYG balances when switching away from ovo? i.e. Time frame of getting leaving invoice and cash in your hand? I’m transferring 10/2/25 as a new supplier has cheaper S/C even on payg. (Ofgem KWH rates apply) thanks
