Moving into new house, how do I set up my account?

Hi, I have just moved into a property which you supply. I want to submit my readings and fix my bills but the suggested price is £129 a month. This seems very high as there is only myself in the property. Is this just an estimate that will change once I submit my meter readings?

Welcome to OVO and your new home!

Great that you’ve already found how to set-up an account with us, as we’re currently supplying the energy there. Even if you’re planning on switching suppliers, we’ll need a temporary account created in order to cover the period before your switch. When we create your account we’ll check the date you moved in and the meter readings on this date (unless you’ve got a smart meter) and create you an account starting from this point.

The suggested Direct Debit amount for your new account is based on average energy usage we’ve seen in your home previously. This gives us a good starting point to work out what you’re likely to use but obviously if you are using less, you’ll only pay for what you use. We’ll monitor your usage and carry out a ‘Direct Debit Check-In’ every 3 months, after we’ve got an idea of your actual usage. If you’re really not sure about the suggested amount, reach out to our Support Team who can discuss a more suitable monthly payment amount.

The easiest way to keep an eye on your usage and suggested Direct Debit amount is by logging in to your online account or downloading our app (available for iOS and Android)

There’s more tips on how to manage your energy account when you move home on this great guide, and other moving house advice on this handy checklist

Good luck with the unpacking.

It’s all in the eye of the beholder. That tool is intended for transparency - especially as there’s still some 2021 tariffs linked to active contracts right now.

I’m a single pensioner in a 1-bed flat.

Then you might consider getting put on the PSR. Even if your only vulnerability is being old (!), it might come in useful some day.

Well, I signed up for the PSR thing - had never heard of it. Still not sure what it’s for… Where I am is sheltered accommodation anyway so will have daily contact with OKEachDay via a touchscreen (once they come and install it).

Thanks

Louise

Way too many plans!

… They could easily make it all a lot simpler with useful filters and/or formatting.

But there are filters and things - didn’t you find them? I only found two tariffs for electricity:

I was referring to the overpopulated on-demand link mentioned above https://plans.ovoenergy.com/

The only filter is for gas vs electric. Did you see my reply to you from an hour or so ago?

I have been unable to reproduce this issue in any modern web browser - it’s worked just fine in ALL desktop and mobile browsers I’ve tested. Short of paying for Browserstack to get access to even more devices to play with, I can only assume things are working correctly.

It is however, worth noting that OVO doesn’t support Internet Explorer, MS Edge Legacy, MS Edge Chromium in IE Mode or any massively outdated browsers, even if the browser itself is one that OVO does support. If you’re using one of those, I’m afraid you’re on your own. If an OVO site is broken exclusively in an unsupported browser and works fine in modern ones, the chances of OVO spending any time on a fix is probably going to be zero.

As such, I can’t endorse a bug report in this case.

I don’t understand your reply? What ‘issue’ are you referring to? I’m using up-to-date Edge under Windows 10

ps it doesn’t matter at all now as I signed up to a dd with simpler energy - as mentioned previously

We have moved into the property just today and want to open a temporary account for energy and gas supply.

Welcome @Krishnapatel ,

Assuming the property is currently with OVO, to get an account set up, please go to https://switch.ovoenergy.com . You can open an account there and that will enable you to pay for the supplies.

If the property is with another supplier, you must go through that supplier instead.

You cannot switch suppliers until you have done this.

Hi @Krishnapatel

Welcome to the Forum,

One of our volunteers has left some really helpful advice here on this already but I just wanted to add some other helpful bits onto that.

As mentioned, you need to set up an energy account with whoever the current energy supplier of the property is.

We’ve got some super helpful resources below that may be of use to you if you’re still unsure on how to get the account set up:

Let us know if you have any problems getting set up.🙂
