Probably not. Smart meter communications is the responsibility of the DCC, not the supplier, and there is a set procedure to be followed. It starts with checking the current coverage forecast for your location. If you already have a non-communicating smart meter, are you hoping a new installation would be better in this respect?

It depends on just what the old, non-communicating meter is.
A photo would help us identify it.
It may also help if we knew where in the UK you live - the first part of the poscode or the city/town/village name is close enough.
Technology changes quickly these days and what was not possible 4 or 5 years ago may now be possible (or maybe still not).

Thank you all for your replies. Our village is Threlkeld, Cumbria.
The old meter was very old, rotating disc. The engineer put in a smart meter, no instructions given.
We had no off-peak electricity for several days during which time several phone calls finally resulted in OVO agreeing to send out an engineer. For some time I was told to use a local electrician. There was no heating from storage heaters during this time.
A different engineer came and immediately said there was no signal. He also said the smart meter should not have been installed. He replaced the smart meter with a meter that gave a digital reading. It was not a smart meter but did switch between high and off peak.
I do not know if it's significant but my storage heaters only receive electricity via a single electrical wire. I am also wondering what would happen if I needed to replace one storage heater with a modern one.
Would like access to cheaper tariffs but I am not confident after all the hassle I had with OVO last time to get my off-peak power reinstalled.
