Can’t install smart meter, will EV tariff work?

Hi

I have OVO and booked an appointment for my gas and electric smart meters. The engineer said toilet pipes and other pipes were too close and couldn’t install.

I want to get an EV charger, will it still work with the OV smart electric tariff if I don’t have a smart meter? Thanks

A smart meter is usually helpful for EV tariffs because the supplier needs accurate half-hourly usage data to calculate the tariff properly.

However, not having one installed yet does not always mean you cannot start looking at EV charging options. It depends on the specific tariff requirements from the supplier.

If you are planning an EV charger installation, it is worth thinking about the whole setup together:

• which EV tariff you want to use
• whether the charger can schedule charging automatically
• whether you may add solar or battery storage later

One thing I’d be interested to know is whether you already have an EV, or are you preparing for one in the near future?
