Live billing, meter readings and understanding my online account
My understanding is that you put in Actual meter readings on the last day of your current billing period then you get a bill based on those readingsĀ
If this is the case then why am I getting an estimated reading on my heating meter only on the 30 th September when my current billing period ends on the 8 th October which is when I should submit actual readings to obtain up to date bill for that period Ā I only haveĀ Ā electricity energy NotĀ Ā gasĀ

This is a threadĀ @Pilgrim2Ā , where youāve started a question and several replies follow - including from yourself.Ā Ā
If you start a new question separately, it pops up a completely different ālistā of answers.Ā Ā
Not being disrespectful but the only other thing Iāll mention is that you wonāt get a different answer, just by asking the same thing again. The billing system OVO use is how it is.Ā Ā
By the way, I use thread and as far as I can see, Iām older than you
The terms ātopicā and āthreadā are identical for the purpose of a forum like this one - itās purely down to whichever term the forum software uses in 99% of cases. You are currently in a Thread/Topic as youāre reading this, assuming youāre not reading it from the email you received when I posted this comment.
Normally, we do ask that each question goes into a unique thread, you are right in that respect. However, in cases where one user is postingĀ a lotĀ of threads about the same question, we might ask that the user limits themselves to one thread purely to keep things more organised and avoid flooding the feeds we rely on. By posting tons of threads, it floods the Recently Active Feed that several of us use and spews the conversation all over the place, which isnāt ideal.
Well BP lightening iv never used a forum before as I never had to (Facebook ) is my limit Iām afraid particularly when it comes to a energy company and if your over 66 years then youāre older than meĀ
ill read over the comments and see if I can make sense of itĀ
maybe OVO energy is what it is but until I find out how it works I wonāt knowĀ
@Pilgrim2
The point thatĀ @Blastoise186Ā andĀ @BPLightlogĀ are trying to make is that you are asking lots of related and overlapping questions.; so it is easier to get a handle onĀ the issues if they are all together in one place,, rather than having disjointed bits of the same story scattered all over the place.
RememberĀ that the people trying to help you are volunteers who help out when they can and they might not have seen all your other posts and therefore donāt necessarily get the full picture if you donāt keep it all together.Ā
No one is having a go at you - they just want you to help them help you.
Ā
Thatās fine but but I assumed that putting all questions under topics was the place for folks to follow one after the other so now I donāt know what the youāre looking forĀ
Iāll Ā read over the comments made but itās a bit of a mystery Iām afraid if there under Topics how can they be difficult to follow as there one after the otherĀ

I gave up FB as a lost cause some time ago but Iām glad youāre giving the forum a go. Thereās lot of helpful people here
particularly when it comes to a energy company and if your over 66 years then youāre older than meĀ
Yes, Iām older than you

I would agree that their ālive billingā is more complicated than it needs to be but it just tries to show you daily, how your bill is progressing .. not asking for immediate payment, just giving you a clue.Ā
Of course you could just ignore the live billing altogether and just check the bill each month ?
Hello.Ā Wondering why my home page shows a balance of Ā£112 in debit.Ā I pay my bill every month (even though I am never told that thereās a bill waiting) and itās usually around Ā£40-Ā£50.Ā Given that I pay the amount on the bill, why would I be Ā£112 in debit?Ā Can anyone explain the logic here?Ā Thank you
Hey @kimf,
Ā
Welcome to the OVO Online Community,
Ā
It may be that youāre paying the consumption charges on the bill but not the ābalance carried forwardsā.Ā
Ā
OVO also has a live billing system so you will see your account balance change in between billing cycles if we receive a meter reading.Ā

Does anyone know why my current billing period just ended ie 9 th October-8 th November has details of the previous billing period ie, 9 th September- 9 th October. The details of current billing period was displayed correctly yesterday the last billing day where I actually paid the bill after submitting actual meter readingsĀ
Why if you give accurate readings on the last billing day does it also display the actual and then an estimated as well giving a different bill from what you expected. Iād expect an energy used on the following end billing date would be taken care off when you put in actual readings in the next billing period either at the beginning of that billing period or the end Ā How can you have estimates displayed when to provide actual readingsĀ
Please avoid posting multiple threads about the same question. Your threads will be merged shortly.
Hey @Pilgrim2,
Ā
It might be that youāve had a re-bill on the account.
Ā
Sometimes if thereās a re-bill on an old period. The next statement will show the previous months re-bill.Ā
Ā
Best way to find out for certain is to contact the support teamĀ
That is unusual @Pilgrim2!
Ā
Iād suggest getting a smart meter installed so you avoid estimated bills.
Ā
Ā
Hi @Pilgrim2Ā we regularly see this reported on the forum.
Your best bet is to put in a readingĀ in the morning of the 9th.
If you put in a reading on the 8th it appears the system still creates an estimate for the period up till midnight.
Try that next month and see what happens and post what you see.
Of course getting a smart meter if you canĀ will mean you don't need to enter readings
Ā
Hi @Pilgrim2,
Thereās been a flurry of topics from you recently about the same sort of thing.
Ā
Iāve moved them all over to this one topic so everything is in one place. Iād recommend you postĀ comments on this topic instead of creating a new topic, if itās a similar billing question.Ā
Explanation requiredĀ
this situation with threads where you put your questions under the one topic. As my questions is regarding billing I use the topic ā Accountā. Ā underĀ Ā (Title of topic). However when asking another question about Ā billing Ā the forum doesnāt allow me to Ā duplicate the word Ā āAccountā therefore I have to use different word under Ā (Title of topic ) so how you can merge all your questions in one place for the forum Ā Obviously thereās still something Iām not getting the hang of Ā relating to questions requiring similar topics that require answersĀ
Hey @Pilgrim2,
Ā
Instead of starting a new topic, you can post in this one, if itās related to a billing query you haveĀ
Ā
Us moderators have merged the topics into this thread, itās not something community members can do themselves.Ā
When you state Post in this One. Do you mean post under āLive Billing Meter Readings My Account On Lineā ie A Thread Ā This forum might be easy but unfortunately I canāt get the grip of what you Moderator mean I find a vagueness regarding linking topics and threads despite the amount of questions asked so far Ā Certainly my questions will be about billing and account as an ordinary OVO customer. Maybe Iāll eventually get what the moderators are conveying Even reading on line hasnāt helped so far I live in hopeĀ
When you state Post in this One. Do you mean post under āLive Billing Meter Readings My Account On Lineā ie A Thread Ā
No, right hereĀ @Pilgrim2Ā where youāve typed this replyĀ
So BpĀ Lightlog if I understand you correctly this reply/question should display to you to follow on from previous questions askedĀ
NoĀ @Pilgrim2Ā , it starts a whole new post/thread/topic separate to the others.Ā Ā
What everyone is asking is that you continue in the āoldā post where everything is together ..Ā
So if my last post was One Hour ago today Ā if I ask another question in couple of days I would log in then go to the last post which by this time is Two days oldĀ Ā and type In reply box from there ???Ā

Yes .. even though it was created earlier, any new reply takes it to the top of the list and we can easily see and associate with your earlier points
