Can you have meters removed and buy direct from N. Grid

Long story short… Nope. There is no Direct To Consumer option in the energy market - you have to go via a Supplier. National Grid does not do business with anyone per se - it just provides infrastructure that everyone else connects their stuff to.

The only way to have your meters removed is via having your supply permanently disconnected.

Suppliers charge way too much. I have emailed for proof of purchase but not getting a direct response. Just skirting around the question.  

Unfortunately, that’s the way the market works. The only way to get cheaper rates is to explore the tariffs offered by all suppliers. There are no links in the chain you can cut out to reduce the prices you pay.

As for getting info from OVO, I the info I think you want from OVO is commercially sensitive and will not be released. They’re under no obligation to reveal that stuff.

You could get your own meter installed, however OVO would then bear no responsibility for it if it went wrong etc. We would not come and replace or repair it without charge. We strongly advise not to do this, as it bears no benefit at all - you’d still have to pay an energy supplier for the energy used. Buying energy direct from the Grid is not an option at all, as ​@Blastoise186 has advised.

The other thing to note is that trying to install your own meter often involves 50 years of red tape while you try to get it approved for use.

In 99.99999999999999999999999999999999% of cases, the paperwork alone mean it isn’t worth it, especially when you can get one for free from your supplier anyway - and the one the supplier fits already comes with the seal of approval and supporting paperwork that the industry requires.

The final tiny bit left isn’t worth it because of the costs involved as Ben mentioned. You’d be effectively paying for a worse experience than what you could get for free.
