Moving from THTC to another tariff- Will all consumer units be connected by Ovo to the new meter ?

We have THTC with consumer units for Storage heaters, fixed appliances & lighting/mains.

Will we be able to move to Economy 9 when the new meter is installed ?

Will all consumer units be connected by Ovo to the new meter ?

Can the power be delivered without being on a timer so we can manually control the heating.

Would like some idea of where we from here & whether the future will be more expensive.

Thanks

I can answer those for you.

When you contact OVO to arrange the migration/upgrade, you’ll be able to discuss the available tariff options. If Economy 9 is offered to you, feel free to select it. Otherwise, you’ll need to go for one of the options that does get offered. This will be done before any work is carried out. They are best placed to advise on costs.

OVO will migrate all wiring between the existing main fuse, meter and consumer units over to the new meter and reconnect everything. However, everything beyond the consumer unit(s) is your responsibility.

Per the terms of E7, E9 and E10, the meter must control the timings. You’ll be welcome to use the Boost function if you need a top-up though - but use of the Boost function would be at Peak rates.

Hey @connorsbjc,

I’m happy to hear that progress has been made in the billing department and that it’s a relief for you. Now the focus can be on making sure the meter issues are investigated 😊

Thanks.

I reckon we are overpaying at least £20 month due to the meter not switching to off peak.

I wonder if I can claim a refund until the issue is fixed as the fault is not mine.

It really does seem that Ovo has a major problem it doesn’t know how to fix .

3 weeks now with the meter not switching correctly, again promised they would send an engineer to look at the meter, but heard no more 🤷🏼‍♂️

We would really like to know if they have a way out of this impasse or if a solution is even forthcoming.

Not being told what is going on is very poor customer service.

Is that the only outstanding issue with the new installation? If so, then I don’t think there’s anything a visiting engineer can do that you can’t do yourself. The correction to the switching times is done remotely.

Do you know what the timings should be for your Economy 9 tariff? They’re not easy for me to find. They should be given on your Plan page, but that might not have been updated yet. You should have had an email confirming the new tariff, and that may contain the timings.

Economy 9 is

GMT   3am to 6am /12pm to 3pm/7.30pm to 10.30pm

my main consumer electricity conforms to these times , not the heaters.

my heating has only come on at 1am to 8am BST this last month since meter installed.

If the correction can be done remotely then why has it not been done, thats what nobody can tell me .

Oddly I had an email recently telling me my meter would be changed as it wasn’t sending readings.

Yet, on my online account the readings have been there since day one.

Confusing or what ?

Meanwhile , as mentioned before, I am paying for my heating outwith of the off peak times for which I should be compensated. I know how many kilowatts I am paying for at the Peak rates.

My issue has been going on for almost a month, with communication from various Agents, yet no sign of a fix.

Hence my feeling that it is more than a remote control problem !

Thanks - that’s what I thought. If those really are GMT times, then you should see a change today …

I don’t know. Here’s some speculation:

The change away from THTC might mean, among other things, that your supply gets a new MPAN. This involves removing your old MPANs from the national database which keeps records of all supply points, and adding the new one. This is an important change to the database involving several parties (OVO, SSEN, Elexon and possibly an intermediary data service provider); it has to be done carefully, in part manually, and it can take time - weeks rather than days. The smart team at OVO will want to wait until this process is complete before making any more changes to the meter.

There may be other changes I’ve no idea about involving third parties over which OVO has no control, but it all means that in some cases it will be six weeks from the installation date before everything has settled down. Some customers will be lucky and find that it’s only a matter of days. But with hundreds of thousands of electricity consumers from Fair Isle to Portland going through this once-in-a-generation change, it won’t be plain sailing for everyone.

As I said, pure speculation.

Interesting.

My MPAN is not recognised at the moment on the National Database.

Maybe in the  interest of consumer care they could give a clue as to what is going on.

I will give it a rest until the end of the year & hope your speculation comes good 👍

It says we can’t find your meter on the database
