They get points not money though, so likely an internal conversion?
I thought the £1.00 was not worth the effort. My target of 0.5kwh would mean if I used no power for one and a half hours I would be rewarded with 50p! In the middle of the current Power Move scheme.
The National grid rate to suppliers is £3-6.00 I believe.
I am already using 50% less than other similar households, could this be why I never get am invite to plus?

Did you opt in? I'm a low user but do get invites...
My target is 0.2kwh. Can anyone explain how I can earn some money by getting 1 kWh below this.
Mine is also very low (.05).
Impossible in my mind. I'm not bothering.

FYI the DFS rate set for 23/24 is £3/kWh as you can see in the link below unless different rates are published somewhere else.
https://www.nationalgrideso.com/news/demand-flexibility-service-approved-202324-winter
One difference may be that Ovo are the only one of the big energy suppliers that don’t have a generating capacity but offering below the DFS rate without any explanation is not going to inspire people to get involved. As I’m already on Power Move (and doing well) my usage during peak times (which are the times when PM+ is likely to be offered) is fairly minimal anyway. Running a simulation of what I could earn is likely to be less than £1 a month. One of the items in the link says is that the margins in Europe are broadly improved this year so I take this as being fewer events to participate in. I’ll pass!

The PM+ (Demand Flexibility Scheme) reward is pro-rata, so if you save 0.2kWh below your target during the PM+ event then you would get 0.2x the 1 kWh reward.
With todays (29th Nov) event that would earn you 0.2x £1 = 20 pence.
Of course for you personally to save that 0.2kWh would mean using no powere at all during the event.
The PM+ (Demand Flexibility Scheme) is not really aimed at those of us who have a low use anyway.
The Demand Flexibility Scheme (called Power Move Plus at OVO) is all about reducing energy use during short periods of predicted ‘emergency’ demand situations, to protect the National Grid from overload - so it’s those higher users who can reduce their usage by more that it’s aimed at.
Ive got a target of 0.2kwh this time (0.1kwh previously) and my average usage for previous 10 days is 0.187kwh for the 1.5hr period. Ive got one exceptional day in there otherwise i would have had 0.149 kwh. Knowing i got down to 0.07kwh on the last test with only the overnight basics on am i right with my calculation below
0.187 kwh average for 1.5 hr period for previous 10 days
- 0.1 or 0.11 (i alternate 0.3 and 0.4 each half hr on nothing but absolute minimum)
= 0.087 or 0.077
So on that basis if they round up i would get 9p or 8p!
I got 21p last time. Really not worth sitting in dark and cold.
Yes, probably not v financially rewarding. We made £0.09 on the previous PM+. We’re still going to attempt this one. It’s a bit of a challenge🙄. We’re retired so can use electricity at less demanding times.
Ha, yes. We made a massive 24p !!
Question why we are bothering?
Yes i will do it anyway. Planned a date with the book im reading, the duvet and a torch! Was hoping for the period to be early morning when people get up and head to work/school etc instead its in the powermove period again.
yep I made 20p on the last PM+ with a 0.2kWh target - I’ll still carry on even though it’s pennies as every little helps.
PLUS the alternative to people cutting energy use is the installation of massive Battery Energy Storage Systems in the field or brownfield site next to you to store energy from the grid produced by solar & wind & release it back when needed...all sounds fine until you look at the data for BESS fires & incidents all over the world (google BESS fires, which is a horrifying read). I’m all for green energy but I don’t want a BESS next to where I live, which is what I’m fighting atm.
Please keep cutting your electricity use!

I’m in for power move but haven’t found how to opt in for plus. If its during the move period I’m stuffed cos I already go down to 1kw for 4 out of 6 segments with only the fridge on
In order to be eligible for Power Move Plus you must meet the following criteria:
The Octopoints are converted into money off the bill - there are lots of ways of getting Octopoints and ‘saving sessions’ is just one of them.

I personally think you are probably better off signing up with one of the 3rd parties for the Demand Flexibility scheme (OVO Power Move Plus).
There are better offers out there. OVO only paid £1 per kWh in the last session. It doesn't involve switching your electricity.
You can only sign up to one Demand Flexibility scheme.

Wow, I assume the energy companies get paid the same amount, so why is there such a difference in payout? I know it would still only be pence in my circumstances being a low user.

For some of the sessions all suppliers get the same per kWh.
For other sessions they put in a bid. So what you get will vary.
Suppliers may or may not take a cut of what they are paid before passing on the money to customers to cover their costs.
With some Suppliers if you donate your savings to a fuel poverty charity they also donate their fee. That is what I do with Hugo.
You do have to read the small print to check and see which scheme is best for you.
There are a few options.
It is not clear why in the last session the OVO amount was so low.
I know I’m frugal with heating etc., but sitting in the cold and dark for 1 ½ hours to be given the princely sum of 27p is a farce. I’m on a pension with no other income, they should be ashamed of themselves treating people so poorly while they line their pockets with our money. I certainly won’t be taking part in this fiasco again.

OVO didn't design the scheme. It is not OVO you should be telling this.
If you don't like it feedback to the National Grid ESO. It is their scheme.
Tell ofgem the regulator the sort of schemes or tariff you would like to see in the future for your specific type of user, for example a social tariff or tariff with no standing charges etc.
For example

Realistically every scheme won't be targeted at every customer.

Why is OVO asking us to hit a percentage when some other companies are just asking there customers to try to lower their energy for the set time. OVO seems to be targeting low users while other energy supplier are including high users.
