Our current trials are now closed, and we'd like to thank our users for their participation.

Hi everyone,

The second series of Power Move Flex, and first series of Power Move Flex for Charge Anytime ended earlier this year, and we’re about to start inviting eligible customers to the next series. It’ll run from July 2025 to October 2025.

Power Move Flex for Charge Anytime - Starts 7th July

First, we’ll be inviting our eligible Charge Anytime customers to Power Move Flex for Charge Anytime

You’ll earn credit for plugging in more often and for longer, so that we can charge your EV when the grid is greenest.

By plugging in for longer, there’s more time to optimise your charging. Meaning it’s less likely your car will be charged with power from fossil fuels.

Just set the time you need your EV charged by, and we’ll do the rest.

You can find out more information here - Power Move Flex for Charge Anytime

Power Move Flex (Power Up and Power Down events) - Starts 14th July

Then, in June we’ll start inviting eligible customers to the next series of Power Up events (when there’s low demand on the grid) and Power Down events (when there’s high demand on the grid).

As Power Move Flex is part of the CrowdFlex trial, we’re testing multiple ways a customer can earn rewards for helping manage demand on the grid.

Power Move Flex helps match demand to the power being generated – supporting the grid and making the most of the UK’s renewable energy. The aim is to shift your electricity use to times when there’s less demand – not to use more than normal.

The amount of the reward you’ll receive will depend on the reward group you are randomly placed into, how many events you participate in and/or how much you’re able to shift into or out of event times.

We’ll let you know at the start of the trial which group you’ve been randomly placed in.

For more information on the next series of Power Move Flex events, please visit Power Move Flex

Thanks

The OVO team

For Power Up and Power Down events, we'll be inviting eligible customers from next week. If you're eligible, but don't have marketing consent, you won't receive an email but can sign up through Beyond.

Customers who took part in the last trial that have been auto-enrolled (we'll email you as well next week), won't have to sign up again as they'll automatically be entered into the trial.

If you follow the Power Move Flex link in the above post you are directed to an information page on that topic which seems to say that you can join the new trial on the App.  When I look at the App there is a method of joining Power Move but I don’t see a way of joining Power Move Flex.  Perhaps I am misreading the information.

Hey @DuncanL,

Have you received an email invitation to join Power Move Flex?

No, not yet.  From your post I understood that you had to wait to be invited but on reading Power Move Flex info, it seemed to infer that you could also sign up on App.

“. If you’re an eligible customer with Beyond, you can also sign up in our app.”

@Chris_OVO It does appear to be a line of incorrect info on that page:

Hey @DuncanL & @Nukecad,

I can see your side of it! Let me ask the team and i’ll come back with an update!

Hey @DuncanL & @Nukecad,

A temporary banner has been added to the article as sign-ups are not yet live.

The team has confirmed that eligible Beyond customers can sign up next week without needing an invite.

I’ll update the callout banner once sign-ups are live

Just the usual OVO state of confusion then.  I will await next week with interest

From the discussions that took place I'm very pleased to see that Charge Anytime has been added to the Power Move Flex trial and look forward to see how that worked out along with customer engagement. This is also good education that moving power from the peak or times that the grid is under the greatest pressure is a good thing. Well done in getting that approved @OVO team.

Power Move != Power Move Flex. Please make sure you’re reading the correct one.

There are no changes to Power Move itself.

I have just had a battery and solar panel system installed and signed up to an OVO SEG tariff. Does anyone know how this works with Power Move Flex? During power down times I could potentially discharge my battery to the grid. How would this negative energy use be handled by Power Mow Plus?

Howdy @brichard !

I’m afraid I don’t have the answer to that one myself… But I do know someone who likely does.

Bear with me for a bit, as I’ll need to get an assist. You ok for a day or two?

Ok, I’m back! Just checked with the team and got a response.

What you’ll want to do for now is use the battery during Power Down events. You won’t get special credit for doing so, but it will count as “Powering Down” for the purposes of Power Move Flex, as the usage wouldn’t be going through the meter.

Just a heads up - you won’t get bonus export credits for exporting during a Power Down event, but you’ll still get SEG credits as normal. Exporting during a Power Down event likewise won’t penalise you for PMF either - your meter will identify it appropriately and the data which comes back will reflect that.

Thanks for that Blastoise186.

It’s unfortunate that exporting during power down does not give additional credit. I am pretty much self sufficient for electricity so have very little ability to take part in Power Move Flex. However, I have only had the system for a few days and used zero from the grid in that time. I’m sure it will be different in the winter so i’ll stay in PMF and see how things pan out later in the year.

Thanks again for your help

No worries. I did have a chat with the team about considering how Solar/Batteries could integrate with PMF or other projects in the future and it’s something they’d be happy to drop in the suggestions box (which I think they’ve done) but for now you may be able to make some use of PMF if you get lucky.

Really interesting to see Ovo launching a summer Power Move Flex trial — I’m curious to see how this affects our daily routines and if it helps us save energy effectively.

While waiting for my shift windows, I found a fun little browser game that helps pass the time (and kind of releases the energy-saving stress) Play Ragdoll Archers —  definitely not energy-efficient in the virtual world though!

Anyone else here finding quirky ways to stay occupied during off-peak hours?

What a brilliant conversation starter @jademiller16! My first thought is reading or downloading a podcast (not the most inventive ideas though).

I got an email from OVO on 3 June to say that I was on waiting list for new PMF but have heard nothing since.  Has anyone had their participation confirmed ?

As it’s now 30 June and I still haven’t heard from OVO, I presume I have not been selected to take part in the new PMF trial.  It would have been nice to have been notified.

I don’t know about any email, I haven’t had one here.

However check your Beyond app.

There is a ”Fancy a new challenge” invitation in the Power Move section of my App today.
Taping it gives me this:

Thanks for reply, Nukecad.

I got an email at start of June to say that because I had taken part in last PMF my name was on waiting list for new one.  I had thought that it stated on 1 July but I think it is actually 7 July.

I don’t see the “Fancy A New Button” you mention in Beyond.  I suspect that it is inside the Power Move section and I haven’t joined Power Move.

Yes, that invittation is in the PM section and I am joined up there.

I do note that in the first post of this thread it says:

Power Move Flex (Power Up and Power Down events) - Starts 14th July

So there’s still a couple of weeks in which you might yet get an emailed invitation?

Thanks.  I see the 14 July date now you have pointed it out.  When the first notice came out it just said in July and assumed it would be from 1st.  I don’t know where I got 7th from.
