Looking to purchase a VW egolf 2019.

completely new to this EV world.

what do I need to consider?

3 pin until I can get a charger installed? Outside temp set up? The charger cable is too thick for letterbox option!

any charger I need to get based on using ovo?

cheaper tariffs for EV charger needed?

any advice would be great for a complete newbie.

thanks

From 15 July Ohme chargers will no longer be compatible with Charge Anytime. We’ve recently updated the technology behind Charge Anytime. This is so we can keep making improvements and create new products that reward customers for driving EVs.

It's not been possible to integrate Ohme with this new technology. If you have an Ohme charger you’ll still be able to sign up to Charge Anytime by connecting with an eligible vehicle. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility to more EV models so if you don’t see your EV here, keep an eye on our page.

You can see all eligibility details in our Charge Anytime page here.

Something to keep in mind. Will your charger be compatible with another provider should you wish to change.

For example I have an Indra charger and as things stand I would be unable to get a similar deal on Octopus. If I had the Ohme charger, it would be accepted by OVO and Octopus.

Your 3 pin charger will be too slow for charging your new EV. Use it as a last resort.

i arranged for OVO to install an Indra charger. It’s reliable and works a treat. A long overnight charge giving me a full battery for a range of 280 miles costs under £4. I avoid using public chargers unless I have to as they are currently relatively expensive but not prohibitively so.

Take advice from the forums as the transition from petrol to EV is not plain sailing. Make sure you have breakdown insurance for the rare event of inadvertently depleting the second battery as I did on the ferry when my alarm went off triggered by the motion of the sea.

There’s also other Chargers you can check out too. We’ve seen Hypervolt perform pretty well with OVO Charge Anytime recently for example.

All the ones listed at https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/smart-charger are fully compatible. Please note that if you purchase one via OVO, then OVO may receive a commission from the sale, but it won’t get passed to me.

OVO Charge Anytime runs as an Add-On/Bolt-On that you can use with any of their Plans/Tariffs - it doesn’t cost any extra and reduces the rate for 24/7/365 EV Charging to 7p/kWh without pushing up the costs for anything else. You can charge up with it whenever you want and still get the cheap rate as long as you don’t hit Urgent/Boost Charge.

Either way, the OVO Forum strongly recommends that you get some kind of discounted EV Charging one way or another.

I think I’m going to have to use a local installer as I’m still yet to hear from anyone regarding my survey I sent in.

I’ve been looking at the Ohme pro which looks like it’s approved by OVO.

Can anyone recommend a tariff for my current situation please? I am awaiting an install of a charger which is likely to happen in the middle of this month and I need to charge my vehicle. I’m currently on the simpler plan which is the variable plan and I am told that there are no benefits to this such as cheaper rate overnight. Is there a current tariff with Ovo that I can jump on now which I will also benefit from the charge any time when my charger is installed?

I think you should be able to use D2V Mode via the Charge Anytime app. No tariff swap needed - OVO Charge Anytime works on ALL OVO Tariffs except PAYG. Just grab the app and start setting it up.

Once you get the Charger, you’ll need to call 0330 175 9678 to get support to switch mode so that the integration runs on the Charger instead of the EV.
