Looking to purchase a VW egolf 2019.

completely new to this EV world.

what do I need to consider?

3 pin until I can get a charger installed? Outside temp set up? The charger cable is too thick for letterbox option!

any charger I need to get based on using ovo?

cheaper tariffs for EV charger needed?

any advice would be great for a complete newbie.

thanks

From 15 July Ohme chargers will no longer be compatible with Charge Anytime. We’ve recently updated the technology behind Charge Anytime. This is so we can keep making improvements and create new products that reward customers for driving EVs.

It's not been possible to integrate Ohme with this new technology. If you have an Ohme charger you’ll still be able to sign up to Charge Anytime by connecting with an eligible vehicle. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility to more EV models so if you don’t see your EV here, keep an eye on our page.

You can see all eligibility details in our Charge Anytime page here.

Something to keep in mind. Will your charger be compatible with another provider should you wish to change.

For example I have an Indra charger and as things stand I would be unable to get a similar deal on Octopus. If I had the Ohme charger, it would be accepted by OVO and Octopus.

Thanks for the quick reply.

do you mean I can benefit by charging with my three pin charger at home at the moment using the charge any time rate? Or do you mean I need to go and find a charger locally for now?

I’ve opened the app and all I can really see is local charges which does make sense and I suspect I may be able to open other doors once that charger is installed in a couple of weeks. Sorry, quite new to all of this

You can use the 3-Pin temporarily and get the Charge Anytime rate that way. We do not recommend using a Granny Charger long-term though.

You have the other app called OVO Charge - the one you want for home use is called OVO Charge Anytime:

The OVO Charge app is best used when public charging. You may use both at once if you wish.

That’s really helpful thank you.

doesn't look like the egolf is on the list at the moment so fingers crossed after charger install I’ll see the charge anytime benefits.

I also don’t see the Ohme pro listed on the app

I don’t have that charger, but I believe you don’t use the Ovo charge anytime app. only the Ohme app. Do a Google search for Ohme  and charge anytime.

Hey @deyoung50

I don’t have that charger, but I believe you don’t use the Ovo charge anytime app. only the Ohme app. Do a Google search for Ohme  and charge anytime.

If you have a compatible charger (such as an Indra or Ohme) then you need to link the charger to your OVO online account. You don’t need the additional Charge Anytime app. Ohme have made step by step instructions on how to set up Charge Anytime.

We recommend opening your OVO online account in Google Chrome, and following these steps: (If this doesn’t work the first time please try this using a new ‘Incognito’ window)

  1. Go to the Offers and Upgrades section.
  2. Click on the Charge Anytime banner.
  3. Select the compatible charger that you have (Ohme or Indra).
  4. It’ll ask you for the username and password to log in to your charger manufacturers’ app.
  5. This will link your charger to your OVO account and you’ll get a new heading in your OVO account called ‘Your EV’.
  6. You’ll still need to schedule the charging in your charger manufacturers' app. And after you’ve charged, the savings will show in the Your EV section of your online account.
