Audi Q4 not charging with Charge Anytime app

Ok so this seems to be a problem with Audis after doing some research. I have a project ev charger and after doing through all the options I can’t get the app to charge via the smart charge. So annoying. You connect it to the car, the app says it’s connected you tell it when you want it charged by and it does nothing all night. Even when you press for an urgent charge it doesn’t work. Contacted the support email, not much help to be honest. Anyone sorted this problem out?

Not sure how I can test that.

all works fine if I delete the anytime app and just plug it in direct.

If you mean via the charger, that suggests that the charger is working ok. Presumably you’ve looked at the guide
As you mention, there have been other reports of Audi being problematic with Charge Anytime recently. Have you had a response from the support team chargeanytime@ovoenergy.com ?

Hi @jonathonhunterhill,

Please keep us updated if you’re having any trouble getting through to the team.

I received an email back from the team yesterday. It said the following:

In order for the Charge Anytime app to work correctly, your wall charger has to provide continuous charge to your vehicle, otherwise it can cause conflicts with the smart charge schedules sent by the Charge Anytime app.
The Charge Anytime app calculates a new smart charging schedule for your car every time it is plugged in at home, which sometimes requires the vehicle to start, stop and restart charging to help balance the local electric grid, attempting to make best use of green and surplus energy.

We have noticed that there is an issue with Project EV chargers which is causing interference with the Charge Anytime smart schedules. What we have deduced is that the charger is not able to provide continuous charge at all times, which is crucial for our control. After any period of significant inactivity, it appears that the Project EV charger enters a state whereby it stops offering power to the EV. This is not a problem if the EV charges immediately on plug in and stops accepting charge once it is full. However, this interferes with Charge Anytime schedules and, if there is a gap between charging intervals, the subsequent charging commands sent by our app are not successful as the Project EV charger no longer offers power.

We have raised the issue with Project EV and they have advised that the latest firmware should allow the chargers to continue to offer charge if the vehicle schedule stops, then starts a charge later on. However this has not worked for some customers.

We noticed that for those customers that plug in the EV later in the evening ( closer to their ready by time) or set any earlier Ready by time  there are less issues as there are less and shorter gaps between charging intervals and this may prevent Project EV charger from entering the inactive state.

We understand that this incompatibility can affect the day-to-day use of your vehicle. Our engineering team is working hard to identify possible solutions for Charge Anytime with Project EV chargers, if the above workaround is not helping, as a last resort we suggest that you delete your Charge Anytime account via the account page in the app.

So, my solution was to delete the app. The charging schedule on the car took over and it charged perfectly.

What I’ve concluded is that I need a provider that has off peak tarrifs that don’t require an app to use.

Hi @jonathonhunterhill,

It’s good to see you’ve received a response from the team.

I apologise that we weren’t able to fully resolve the issue for you. Hopefully the team are able to find a solution to this soon.

Been getting smart charge on Audi Q4 until tonight. App showing car as charging away from home even though car plugged in at home. Charging is at full cost. Anyone had the same issue

Hi @DPA,

Have you managed to get in touch with the team about this? Are you still having this issue?

Hi @DPA,

Have you managed to get in touch with the team about this? Are you still having this issue?

Yes - spoke to someone yesterday, was advised to delete the car and add back.

Took couple of attempts to delete.

Just tried it now, seems ok

Thanks @Blastoise186 for helping
