Why has my Geo In Home Display started showing gas when I have no gas supply?

Hey @JohnDG

That’s not how it works - there is no engineer password as you can’t make changes locally. Additionally, the device you’re referring to isn’t the Meter - it’s an In-Home Display, or IHD for short.

Please post photos of what you see under the System Status menu, ideally with all the Status Codes so I can diagnose this.

Thanks!

Blastoise is right, some pictures might help us diagnose the issue.

Hi Apoligies for refering to the meter when I was addressing Trio2 issues.

As I noted we have no gas supply. On my trio 2 system ‘status’ shows a gas flame clicking the flame says gas meter issue error code 29-1.  By scrolling through Main menu> Settings>Advanced> Engineer > there is a request to ‘Enter 6 digit Password’

Herewith the system status.

I can get the pictures of the ‘advanced>engineer>Enter 6 digit password’ later if that helps. I am unclear what the engineer access can change other than features on the display as I am not aware that the it can interact with the meter itself. The IHD booklet has no mention of any of this.

 Help please Kind Regards John

Gotcha. If you have no gas supply, please ignore this - it’s a known issue that Geo is trying to fix. Once they do, that phantom gas meter should just completely go away. The IHD should otherwise just work fine.

You can’t access the engineer menus - they’re restricted to engineers only, sorry. I have more advanced documentation than pretty much anyone else because Geo gave me special permission to have it in order to help diagnose stuff. But I’m afraid it’s all under an NDA so I can’t just hand it over - apologies for this.

Hi @Gus ,

I’m afraid there’s no setting but you can just ignore Gas if you don’t have a gas meter.

I have exactly the same. It's seriously frustrating.  Was fine yesterday, just showing electri . Did all the turning on and off again but still no help.  Had online chat with ovo but not much joy thete

I contacted OVO  and they sent out a new display and that has solved the issue, it seems it can’t be changed ie can’t reset the software.

And I have to manually put in top up codes every time. They have never gone on automatically

Hey @Lizcro & @Nwefie,

We’re aware that after a recent firmware updates some models of the Geo IHD are showing gas for those on only electric. This is just a cosmetic issue and won’t impact you using the IHD to display your usage and we’re hopeful this will be fixed by them soon.

If you have any other questions let us know 😊

I've got my new one, but worried about unplugging it as got £239 on atm. Did you have  to contact them to give them to give them the code off of the new one

I pay monthly, for me it’s just a display, I would imagine you simply swap it over as the meter holds your credit. It’s just an in home display so your new one will pick up all the same info Tom your meter.

The In Home Display (IHD) just shows you what is recorded on the meter(s) without you having to go and look at the meter(s) itself/themselves.

Any credit on the meter is on the meter, and turning off or even changing the IHD will not change what is on the meter at all.

However if you turn your IHD off, or swap it, then it may take a while to reconnect and show you the information that is on the meter - but it is still what is on the meter that matters not what the IHD may or may not say at anytime.

Think of an IHD like a friend who is reading your meter for you and then telling you what your meter says.
They may not be able to read you meter for a while and so can’t tell you what the meter says, but that makes no difference at all to the meter.

As has been said above, the IHD (in home display) makes no difference to your account at all - it’s just a display device to show you details when it is connected.
Unfortunately a fair number of people think that the IHD is their smart meter but it is not. It’s just a display so swapping for a new already paired unit should have no affect at all.
The IHD does need to be paired with your meter which is why you can’t just get a second hand unit to use - and why the IHD should be left if you move house.

IHD once again showing waiting for gas. Just appeared out of the blue. Was fine for 5 months then reverted to showing or trying to show gas again.

That’s very strange @Nwefie. Please contact the support team about this.

It would be great if you could keep us posted as this topic doesn’t seem to have a clear answer about the root cause of this issue. I’ll do some digging internally & see if I can find out why this might happen.

this problem has been going on for years and no sign of being fixed , when i first had it ,it showed current usage and total usage . now i have to press the arrow to flick between both screens as gas is on one side . to me the software designers are just no interested in fixing it as it still works

it’s cheap as chips and will probably not get fixed, last time support sent me out a new one but as I’m moving abroad I’ll just let this one sit but I wanted to update the thread so others are aware.
