Set-up my OVO account a month ago - Why have I not received my Welcome pack and can't login to my online account?

Hello there

I joined OVO a month ago by phone call. Since then, I haven't received any welcome email or confirmation.

I have attempted to contact helpdesk through phone call many times and succeeded couple of times and got my OVO ID. However using OVO ID I am not able to register my OVO account on either online or mobile app.

I am looking to get account created and give Gas/Electric meter reading for this month

I am starting to be a bit concerned about

Please, could you help me?

Many thanks

Hi @selvendran - Welcome to OVO and to our online community here!

I see you’ve already met one of our Plan Zero Legends round here, @Blastoise186 who’s given some great advice into what might be causing your login issues:

It sounds like OVO might not have the right email address on file for your account, but this should be an easy fix. Please give the Support Team a shout via live chat or phone and they’ll get the records updated. If you’re going in by phone and get stuck at any prompts, pressing the # key will get you through them.

Once the email address is updated, please try my first link again and it should work fine after that. Make sure to check your spam/junk folders too!

If you’ve joined us through a switch, or set-up an account after moving into a house we already supply we’d expect you to receive your welcome email within an hour of getting things set-up. It could be there’s been a slight typo with your email address when setting up the account, which would also explain the login issues you’ve been having.

Hope the Support Team have already managed to get things sorted - do pop back and let us know how you get on.

The meter is an old skool clockwork analog one …

Surprisingly, that meter is certified until March 2033, so there’s no rush to have it replaced. I do wonder, though, how your cottage is heated. Many properties in North Britain have only electricity for heating, which can be very expensive indeed unless remedies like night-storage heaters using lower-priced electricity or heat pumps are deployed.

Hi Firedog, Thanks for your reply. Great news about the certification. How did you work this out? I thought the maximum was 25 years (from 1989?). The cottage is entirely electric but just fitting multi fuel stove and doing complete retrofit.

I am about to engage online chat to see what is going on. Wish me luck!

Great news about the certification. How did you work this out?

Easy when you know how! This is retrieved from your photo:

Looking up the manufacturer and model in this gov.uk document: Schedule 4: UK nationally approved electricity meters, we see that the certification period (last column) is 35 years.

That said, when all the RTS fuss dies down in a few months’ time, you might consider asking for a smart meter to be installed - there are lots of benefits.

That sounds cosy. Just beware of “switch the heater on, love - it’s a bit chilly in here” when the stove’s not lit.

How do you heat water? That can be expensive, too ...

Hey @Adrian Brewster

Glad to have you join our community! If you haven't already, definitely check out our new joiners area.

Just a heads-up for security: if you email us from an address not linked to your account, you'll get a notification that it's unregistered. No worries though, just reach out to our Support Team and they'll happily help you get your account info updated.

Like our awesome volunteers have mentioned, once your account is all set up, you can upgrade to a smart meter. It comes with some great perks like free electricity hours, rewards for shifting your energy use with Power Move, and even more goodies through our OVO Beyond energy savings account. I've popped some articles below that have all the details for you.

And, if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask! We're always happy to help you out with more info.

Hi Chris, when you say support team who do you mean? I have tried email and get a reply saying it’s an unregistered email. I finally got beyond the bot on the chat but was told all their systems are down, try again later. Is there something I am missing? I will check out new members faqs but I can’t believe it is this hard to give OVO money!

Cheers

Adrian

Hey @Adrian Brewster

You can find all contact options for our Support Team in the green banner that runs across the top of every article you visit. I’ve also linked it below for convenience

Don't worry, you're not missing anything. There are some outages today due to the storms, which are impacting some of our team's ability to access their systems. If you've emailed us and the email address doesn't match the one on your account, the email you received back is a common response simply letting you know there's been an issue. It's nothing that can't be fixed by speaking with a member of our team who can look into it for you.

Hi all, thanks for your help. FYI situation resolved, my account details were changed when I first applied but somehow against someone else’s name. Now sorted and I am a happy customer.

Have fun.

I am a new tenant trying to set up an account with OVO. I have done so online and it says account haas been created and I will receive an OVO welcome email with my ID to finish account creation. I have done this twice with no welcome email (my email is typed in right!) and therefore I cannot create an account. I’ve waited about a week. Also, when I try contact anyone at OVO you must be an existing customer so this shows my email is not on their record.
