Hi @Graham781 ,

Depends on how you pay!

  • Credit/Debit Card payments usually show up within one hour of the payment being made
  • Direct Debit normally shows up within 24 hours of payment being collected
  • Bank transfers may take up to five working days due to manual processing
  • Cheques may take up to 10 working days in some cases - depending on how slow the postie is
  • PayPoint/Payzone/Post Office managed transactions may take 3 working days to go through the system

If you want the fastest processing time, you should consider Credit/Debit Card or Direct

At OVO, paying your bills can be done in lots of ways, so you can always pick the one that works best for you.

  • Pay by Direct Debit: This is the easiest way to budget your payments as everything is done automatically – month after month after month.

  • Make a card payment: You can do this in or by calling us on 0330 303 5063 Monday to Friday from 9am till 5pm. We accept all major credit and debit cards (except for American Express).

  • Pay by cheque: Scroll down to find out more about how this works.

  • Make a bank transfer to our bank account: There’s more info on this as you read through this guide.

1. Paying by Direct Debit: all I need to know

Paying by Direct Debit is easier – because we spread your costs evenly over a year. This can protect you from having to pay more when you might use more energy (for instance, in winter). Plus, you’ll never forget to make a payment as it all happens automatically.

Here’s how Direct Debits work

Hi @Graham781 and welcome to the OVO Forum!

I can see @Blastoise186 has given some great info here. Has the payment come through yet? Bare in mind that, when a payment is made before or on the weekend, this can often cause a delay with it showing on your account.

I had a default of £1,775.85. I paid that today in full by bank transfer. When will that be updated to 0 balance and settled? I'm in hospital and never check my credit file until recently, so I'm paying my defaults off.

I would hope that it would show that you have made this payment by the end of tomorrow (Monday). However, remember that standing charges will still be added daily to your account as well as any usage charges for things like fridges and freezers. Having a totally zero balance is almost impossible.

The account is closed. I so happened to check my credit file and it said I owe £1,775, which I paid in full. I'm in hospital so I'm not at that address they have. I thought it would update to settled in 10-15 days? If it's by Monday, that's great.

It doesn't work like that with credit records.

Once the Credit File company have been informed by OVO that the debt has now been cleared then it can take them a month or two to change your current credit status to show that it's been paid off.

However the fact that there was a debt will stay on your credit record for 6 years.

See “How long does a default stay on your credit record” here:-

https://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/guides/defaults.html

I've come to realise the default will stay the for 6 years then drop off, but providers want it settled. I just want it to say settled and that's fine with me.

@Ellzy01 thanks for your post. I can see @Nukecad and @Bendog have come through with some helpful answers for you here.

The account balance should be updated within the next couple of days if it hasn’t been already.

It still says bill pending in yellow when it's been paid @Ben_OVO

They've changed my email as I don't have access to the old one and can see they have updated £1.775 as 0 balance

I've received a statement saying I owe nothing. 0 balance. I'm just waiting for the credit bureaus to update this.

That should happen soon - usually within a month or two.
