Can you change the Direct Debit payment details online?

You claim on your help page that I can change where my DD is paid from by clicking on the ‘profile’ tab. I can’t. No such facility exists and the only way to do this apparently is to call you.

Sorry for any confusion caused by the advice given on our Help Centre, we’ve now updated the details here to advise bank details can’t be updated online yet.

You can change some of your direct debit details on your online account or OVO app (download for Android or iOS) - such as the payment amount or date. Check out the ‘payments’ page to make these changes and check the bank account details you have registered. Currently you can’t update the details in which the money comes from, you’d need to get in touch with our Support Team to do this.

How to change your Direct Debit date

How to change your Direct Debit date

  1. Head to the ‘Bills’ section

  2. Then to ‘Manage Direct Debit’

  3. Tap on ‘Change’ next to ‘Payment date’.

  4. Pick your new date on the next screen

It takes us 6 days to tell your bank about this change. If your new Direct Debit date falls within 6 days of your current one, we’ll take this month’s payment on the old date and change it for the next.

How to change your Direct Debit amount

  1. Go to the ‘Bills’ section

  2. Then to ‘Manage Direct Debit’

  3. Click ‘Change’ next to ‘Monthly amount’

  4. If you can change the amount, you’ll see a new recommended amount, or you can increase the Direct Debit here too

  5. If you enter an amount that is lower than the one we’ve recommended, you’ll need to confirm the change in a pop-up box

You should then see a confirmation message telling you that your Direct Debit has been updated.

TBH it sounds like your ‘old’ bank is being the problem here. (Maybe why you are switching?)

When I had cause to cancel my DD last year (complicated reason) my bank cancelled it almost immediately, and I then had an email from OVO just as quickly asking if I wanted to set up another.

I said, Hey - Watts going on.

Hi @John12345

I’m glad a couple of our volunteers have already left some really helpful advice for you here.

In order to change the bank account details, you’ll need to get in touch with the Support Team - you can reach them on 0330 303 5063 (lines are open Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm) - as we need to check some security details and re-confirm the direct debit agreement we need to speak to you in order to get these details updated.

You can find out more about Direct Debits on our FAQs.

I’m sorry for any confusion caused, hopefully this helps clear things up a little for you.

Hello. I’m renting with a friend and we had the direct debit registered to their name - and bank account - when we first moved in. And we’d like to change the direct debit ‘billing’ to my name and to be paid from my account. The property contract contains both our names.

can you advise on the changing process kindly.

Hi @Abdull21 ,

Quickest way is to cancel the existing DD via the bank and set it up again when OVO contacts you. You can then use whatever bank account you wish to pay from in the future.

If you want the OVO account moved to your name, call 0330 303 5063 when you are BOTH present.

Howdy @Tilliemin ,

Sure thing! The easiest way is to delete the Direct Debit via the bank from your OLD account and then when OVO reaches out, use that to set up the new one with the preferred account.

Using the Current Account Switching Service? Don’t do the above! The Direct Debit will migrate over automatically as part of CASS so you don’t need to cancel it. Please leave it in place to avoid disruption.

Hey @Tilliemin

Welcome to the Forum!

To change the bank details for Direct Debit, you’ll need to get in touch with the Support Team about this one. This is the only way to set up new Direct Debit details. Check out the topic below for the contact details for the Support Team, and they’ll get this changed over for you:

As @Blastoise186 said when you switch banks they transfer all the payments for you using CASS - Current Account Switch Service. It was mandated by the government to enable people to switch accounts easily.
