Heat Pump Plus tariff - what's happening?

Hi,

I have recently had a Vaillant aroTherm Plus heat pump installed, which is eligible for the Heat Pump Plus add on.

I have entered all details in the eligibility checker and got a message back saying that OVO will get in touch in the next 5-7 days. It has been more than 3 weeks and I haven't got any correspondence with OVO.

I have sent an email to OVO, and also I have been redirected to Heat Pump department but the line just drops after a while.

I have exhausted all communication channels to get to some one to no avail.

Any recommendations as what to do now? Basically their tariff is the main reason I signed up with OVO but I cannot do a simple thing of adding their tariff.

As of 1 February 2026 Heat Pump Plus is no longer available. We’ve contacted all customers who have been impacted by this change.

 

Further info I got from OVO:

We’ve just been advised to stop all new sign-ups to Heat Pump Plus indefinitely. Unfortunately, this is a decision made at a wider level, and I don’t have further details on when this may change.

It will always be the case that companies will have to revisit their business model from time to time in the light of the changing economic landscape. What this means in the case of energy companies is that the rapid change in the generation and use of energy has forced rapid changes on energy suppliers and associated industries. A whole load of energy suppliers went bust shortly after the 2021/22 energy crisis and others had to adapt to stay in business and the landscape continues to change. Some have been caught off balance and others have yet to change. OVO’s changes won’t be the only ones in the industry. I would say the 6-7p charging rate is not sustainable with basic generation costs and the recent RIIO-3 determination by Ofgem is likely to add significant costs to energy and I can see further changes coming.

 

The best you can do, that anyone can do, is to look at the tariffs that are available now and choose the one that seems to offer the best value. It doesn’t mean it’s going to stay that way in, say, six months time. That is the situation that everyone has to put up with; the uncertainty caused by the introduction of large amounts of renewables on the grid which is being done to cut our dependency on fossil fuels. If you have an EV or a Heat Pump or solar/battery you obviously care enough about the environment to do something but you are a pioneer breaking new ground and taking risks. Anyone who takes a step away from fossil fuel usage has my admiration but the path you take is not the easy one.

    Good bye OVO, after many years of customer loyalty you start pulling the plugs! (1) Removed the 7p rate for EV charging and double it to 14p or sign up for a pre-payment plan - none of which really fitted my usage. (2) Get rid of the Heat Pump Plus tariff of 15p and get booted on to the standard day rate. I did briefly sign-up for the Havenwise heat pump project, but kicked that into touch after getting toasted at 3.00 am on a couple of nights - complete disaster.

    Spent the day researching other suppliers - looks like Octopus will be getting a lot of business heading their way.
