Do OVO have plans for ASHP and Solar?

Ignoring the tariffs. I want my smart meter to work. It is an L+G E470 (smets 1) that has been disconnected for a while and therefore works as a non-smart meter (manual readings). I believe OVO uses the L&G meters. The meter when connected to a network is upgradeable to the industry standard smets 2.

My question is, if we transfer our account to OVO will they be able to get the smets 1 meter up and running in smart meter mode again?

The existing meter is not connected to the network so it is not acting as a smart meter and cannot be tracked via that tool.

Unfortunately.... 

The deadline for suppliers switching out smart meters that are not operating in smart mode via the DCC has changed multiple times.

It is currently the end of 2023.

So i suspect you will have a challenge with all suppliers currently.

It will upgrade if it is connected to the network. It has a connection that is strong but of course has been switched off at the supplier end. . All it needs to be updated to smets 2 is to be connected to a suppliers network. It does not need switching out it just needs activation. Now, knowing OVO uses these meters (in smets 2 state now I guess) they might well be able to connect and upgrade a smets 1.

I have read that about end 2023. Not sure energy companies care as Eon.Next are saying they cannot do anything until 2025, even though the meter was installed by its predecessor EoN. Octopus on the other hand cannot give a timeline at all! But I think Octopus are overwhelmed by the Bulb takeoff.

Are you going to try switching to OVO and see what happens?

Have you thought about taking export readings manually from your meter for solar as a short term solution to part of the issue? Other customers on the forum have done that. 

Thanks for that. It certainly is an option but my meters different to that so I do not have clue how to get to the export readout.

If you try the search bar on the forum you will find a few threads threads that might help. Here is another one as an example although this one is SMETS2. I haven’t looked at all the threads that came up in the search. You may find some instructions in one of them that may work. Alternatively Eon may perhaps be able to tell you given you have already been in contact with them.
