Are SEG readings sent automatically or do I need to submit them?

We have had smart meter since early 2025, seg account started in July, ovo requires manual seg readings every three months, everything I've read says smart meters should send readings automatically, yet ovo seg dept insists it can't be done at moment but may be in future, is there something they are not telling me ???

Welcome to the Forum. 

 

Apologies for some conflicting information you’ve received from the Support Team and ​@Blastoise186, I checked in with the SEG team and this isn’t quite the case so they wanted to help clear this up.

 

Regarding SEG readings, usually your payment readings will be sent automatically from your smart meter. We're working on putting in place automated readings for all our SEG customers. If we can't get an automated reading from your smart meter, we'll send a reminder for you to give a quick reading on September 15th. You can find more about this on the SEG FAQs page here too.

 

 

@mavison glad to hear yours is submitting the regular quarterly readings! Many meters are on course and doing this already, with the rest to follow suit.

I was manually submitting SEG readings  then they started collecting them automatically. I then changed to a different SEG tariff and had to start manually submitting again. Last month was advised they would once again start collecting automatically from September.

Not seeing AI Help. Have deleted and reinstalled app. Running app version 20.0.4 on android 12.

It seems to come and go throughout the day, probably not helped by being smashed up all the time with a lot of queries from power users like myself. Android 12 is a bit behind though - you may want to update your device if you can.

Hi ​@Stuart gow ,

The idea is that SEG will eventually allow automated readings… The reality is that the industry hasn’t figured that part out yet.

This is not OVO specific - it’s everywhere. OVO isn’t hiding anything, that much I can promise you.

Sorry, but SEG does allow automated readings, and has done for some time. Even my oldish Smets1 meter (upgraded to DCC) sends readings every day - and I get paid every month on my normal bill with import and gas. But that is with Octopus, and has been so for over two years.

@abbey_ovo My meter is NOT just sending quarterly readings - it is sending them every day to Octopus, and has been for over two years. Glad to hear Ovo are trying to catch up.
