Usage figures on In Home Display versus Ovo app

The recorded usage on my in home display is considerably higher than that displayed on the Ovo App. I understand that the IHD includes VAT and standing charges, but the App does not. I can’t understand why the App doesn’t display the full cost, as that is what we want to keep tabs on. Is there any way to tweak the App to include VAT and standing charges?

Hi @Plunkett ,

If you’re looking for the full breakdown in the app, you’ll find that under Bills > Charges and Payments. Sounds like you were looking at Usage!

As Blastoise has said, usage wont show you VAT.

Its under bills

Ive deleted my usage, Im in a minus lol.

Your app, IHD, website area all slightly different IN MY EXPERIENCE. Ive had a smart meter the whole Ive lived here. Ive always been with this outfit. Moved in in April 22.

My IHD can go back so far, my app also goes back so far, my web account a different point too.

My IHD was accurate, I use LOOP on my phone too. LOOP does include VAT btw.

My bills have been accurate, my smart meter readings were being estimated for about a year. Maybe longer. I can see when they werer turned on.

Here is my OVO app
working properly since Sept 24 lol

My point is, forget your IHD, get the LOOP app. Cross ref your IHD.
Forget OVO’s apps etc, just look at your actual bills.

LOOP and the IHD area usuallty pretty accurate, they work a little different to how OVO gets their data.

If you’re being charged for more than you’re using, then theres an issue.

Your smart meter, if working correctly, will send a meter reading that you can see yourself within your app or webpage.

It will bill you the difference between two billing dates according to those readings, imo 30minute readings are pointless, it gives you “some” idea of your usage. The day after youve used it lol.

OVO only actually get all this info once a day. They dont work out your cost every half hour, they work it out daily then compare that to your 30 day billing period.

LOOP may be slightly higher usage than your actual btw.

I get confused by the figures I don’t use Ihd anymore I rely on App.
The part I get confused with is my billing period is 15th month - 15th making it challenging. I think if my bill was from 1st to 1st. Then I’m not trying to work out the costs.
At the end of day it’s energy we’ve used and needs to be paid.
I guess it’s another one of those First World Problems. I’m sure many people in other countries would see having these as a luxury I feel blessed to have been born in UK, & can understand why many people would want to come here and make a life, get a job and raise family, in a secure country compared to their birth country

Smart Meters.

I am ok with believing that the actual smart meters cannot be affected remotely, however, the OVO App is a different ball game. Earlier this year I noticed a daily spike in the gas reading on the App when no gas was being used. We also know that the App can be accessed and things changed because ALL historical billing carries the current date and not the date it was issued. Should we be noting the meter readings daily and those on the App? Would you notice a 50p or even a £1 extra usage? Not saying that’s happening/happened to OVO customers but the figures across the board could be scary at £1.9M or £3.8M a pop.

@chrisablake I personally just use the app as well; I find it clearer to look at.

I think IHDs are really good if you’re concerned about remaining in budget, but for a reflection of actual usage the online account / app is definitely the way to go!

Hi @mr L and welcome to the OVO Forum.

Are you referring to the ‘Usage’ pages of your app / online account? If so, to confirm, they don’t have any bearing on your billing whatsoever. They are a visual guide only.

To check your exact billing and charges, you need to look at the statements themselves. Here’s a guide which shows how to do this:

Just to let you know, I’ve moved your post out of the ‘Ideas’ section of the Forum, and into the ‘Smart meters’ area.
