Help needed: OVO Energy keeps sending debt collection letters for the previous occupier

Hi everyone,

I moved into my current property on 20 July 2026, and I have been paying my OVO Energy bills on time ever since.

However, I keep receiving letters about outstanding energy bills addressed to the previous occupier. Now, I have received another letter from LCS (debt collection agency) addressed to “The Occupier”.

I am getting concerned because these letters keep arriving despite me paying my own bills regularly. I have never been responsible for the previous occupier’s energy usage or outstanding balance.

Has anyone experienced something similar with OVO Energy or LCS?

  • What is the best way to get these letters stopped permanently?

  • Should I contact OVO directly, LCS, or both?

  • Can this situation cause any problems for me as the current occupier?

I would really appreciate any advice from people who have dealt with this before. Thanks!

You are not responsible for the debt. Letters don’t have your name on them. It shouldn’t cause any problems to you. It’s recommended to contact LCS, but I would contact OVO as well. This forum has thread on this topic. It should have more details.

    Hi @Ashu912

If you read my guide which costeek has linked above the first post there explains that it's the debt collector (in this case LCSDR) who you need to contact to get these letters stopped.

Then use the link there to “letters addressed to Occupier” for instructions on what to do.

I said, Hey - Watts going on.
