Question

dual fuel

E-on is my gas supplier and Ovo my electricity supplier, does this mean now they have joined that I can get a dual fuel discount?

Hi @jkp0311 and welcome to the forum.

An interesting question and one which I had not thought about. I guess when the two companies are fully integrated then that would happen but OVO is still a separate company. I would also guess both your existing contracts (if you are on fixed price contracts) would have to expire before you could go dual fuel with E.ON and then it would be a clean start to your next contracts with the dual fuel discount. My volunteer colleagues and OVO staff on here might have other information but the integration process has only just started so it may be a bit early to know exactly what is going to happen and if the discount will still be available.

I found this page from E.ON which suggests dual fuel contracts might be cheaper. Or it might not. So I’m not any better off knowing that. You probably could still find a combination of suppliers that is cheaper than dual fuel from any one of them. That’s why people do it but it depends on your particular circumstances. As an example I have a heat pump but I still use a gas boiler in the coldest weather but my gas usage is minimal (about 10% of my heating) so switching my gas supplier would make such a small difference I’d rather have the one supplier.

Reducing my yearly fossil fuel usage with an EV (-900 litres petrol saving about £950/year), A2AHP (-8,700 kWh gas, cost neutral) and Timed Immersion heater (-1,500 kWh gas, £20/year more expensive but reducing as the gas price goes up)

I’m not sure that any supplier offers a ‘dual fuel discount’ nowadays.
However it is still much simpler to have both fuels with one supplier meaning just the one bill.

For the time being at least despite OVO and E.ON Next being jointly owned each company is still operating separately as it’s own company.

Why don’t you simply switch one fuel to the other company, (either way), so that both are being supplied by one?

I said, Hey - Watts going on.
