Hiya, I very gratefully received the electric blanket as I have MS, however I've only used it twice and for no longer than 2 hours each time, and it wont turn on at all anymore. Can I contact ovo about this? Thank you.

Thanks for tagging me here @Blastoise186.

Good morning @Gemstonecat and welcome to the OVO Forum. I’ve sent you a private message on the Forum, have a read and get back to me when you can - we’ll get a replacement sorted for you.

I've also heard back from the team that the blankets have a safety feature where, once they cut out on the timer, they need to be unplugged and plugged back in to be turned on again. Not sure whether this has affected yours, and we're still sending you one, but I thought I'd let you know just in case

As you’ve mentioned you have MS, I’d recommend signing up to the Priority Services Register if you haven’t already. This is a free service with numerous benefits. If you sign up, you’ll be contacted by the National Grid where possible to let you know of incoming power outages and, if you do go off supply during a power outage, they’ll look to get your property back on with priority.

Howdy @Gemstonecat ,

Sorry about that! Let me grab a Forum Moderator as I don’t know the best solution for this right now. We’ll try to figure out if/how you can get a replacement. Please bear with us!

@Ben_OVO could you grab this one? :)

Has anyone else been sent a rubbish design electric blanket?

Now I'm thankful for the extra help but the blanket I was sent is pretty bad.

Left it on for two hours and with in 5 minutes it's as cold as stone after I turn it off

Also no straps so unfortunately it's always moving as I moved a lot in my sleep.

The connection plug for it is awful too no way to get it to hang out of bed and if bed you can feel it under sheet.

Cold spots too only middle of blanket gets warm.

They're not intended for overnight use, especially nit whilst sleeping

As Blastoise186 says you should use them the way they were meant to be used - and then they are good at their job

They are meant for use as throws, over your legs/body, or wrapped around your shoulders as you sit watching TV/reading/whatever.

generic ‘heated throw’ image from the internet
generic ‘heated throw’ image from the internet

Yes I know that the instructions with the OVO supplied throws does call them an ‘electric blanket’ but that is just a general name and used for different types.
(Think of it as just a general name like ‘Vehicle’ - That could be a mobility scooter, a bike, a car, a bus, a lorrry. All meant for different jobs but all can be called ‘a vehicle’).

The throws are not meant to be used on the bed like an electric underblanket.
(If they were meant for the bed they would be bigger and have straps).

If you use them as intended, ie. over your legs/body, or wrapped around you as you sit, then they are quite a warm blanket without turning them on, and then there is the heating if things are a bit colder.

PS. I agree that the connector is a bit chunky.
However it’s like that so that the cable and controller can be disconnected and the throw washed in a washing machine without damaging the controller.
A smaller, less chunky, connector could/would get damaged in the washing machine.

Hey @ciararoisin,

If the blanket isn’t working quite right, I’d be happy to ask the team about possibly replacing it for you!

That said, I totally agree with what others have mentioned: these blankets aren’t really meant for overnight use. Be sure to check out any safety advice that comes with them! If you use the blanket for about 2 hours and then turn it off, it’s perfectly normal for it to cool down. The materials are designed to disperse heat rather than hold onto it.

As someone who enjoys using an electric blanket while camping, I know that sometimes you have to make a few sacrifices for that cozy warmth from the blanket and dealing with the connector is one of them!

I’m really sorry to hear that this blanket hasn’t met your expectations. If you have any questions at all, just let us know.

I bought one which is very different to yours, but same principal Use as overbed blanket / throw. Sounds like you’re using your throw as a mattress cover type you use to warm bed before you climb in & lay on it, which is not what you have. Once you use properly you’ll benefit from the low cost advantage of watching tv in the evening with your blanket/throw wrapped over your body, saving lots by not putting heating on, yet staying warm & cosy.
I hope now you realise best way to use the blanket you’ll love it as much as others do. If it’s not for you I’m sure you could fing many peeps who would take it.

Hope you enjoy it now. & save money and stay warm.

Hi @Becs09 ,

Sorry about that! I’ve let @Chris_OVO know and asked him to check on this thread.

It seems like you might need a replacement that actually works...

Hey @Becs09

We've noticed some misunderstandings regarding how the blanket works, so I wanted to clarify: is your blanket completely not working or is it not working as you thought it would?

If that's the case that it's completely not working, I can report this to the team and request a replacement for you. We source these blankets from an external supplier, and given the large number we distribute, there may occasionally be a few initial issues. However, we are more than happy to replace it if you are experiencing problems. Just let us know!

Completely doesn’t work both the original and its replacement are both faulty with the same issue and won’t even turn on (clearly an issue with the make/model as I’m not the only one) and nothing wrong with my plugs.

Thanks for confirming! Chris will swing by the thread soon, but it might not be until Monday as we’re getting close to the end of the day now (I’ll make sure he doesn’t forget!).

Hopefully #3 doesn’t burn out as quickly. :)

Hi @shelley56 ,

Sorry about that! You can absolutely get a replacement if yours is a dud. I’ve let @Ben_OVO know and he might be able to help you with this. But if you’re able to let OVO Support know, they should be able to arrange for another one to be posted out to you.

Unless OVO asks otherwise, you won’t be expected to return the broken one - and the lack of packaging won’t be an issue.

Hey @shelley56

I reached out to the team about this to see what can be done to help get that sorted.

If a replacement hasn’t already been arranged through the Support Team, please reply to my direct message, the team would like to help make sure this is resolved.

I wouldn’t even bother trying as they have been a nightmare saying OVO is not responsible for replacing faulty blankets any more it’s down to the manufacture and the only other details on the instruction leaflet is exertis they say nothing to do with them either and it’s OVO! No other manufacturer on the blanket so don’t know who else I’m meant to contact. I’ve given up. Lots of people having this issue with faulty blankets so clearly there is problem just OVO choose to ignore.

@Becs09 I’m sorry you’ve been so unfortunate with the blankets you’ve been sent out. We’ve sent a huge number of these now with barely any issues reported.

Would you like me to get you another sent out? Just to let you know, the blankets have a safety feature where, once they cut out on the timer, they need to be unplugged and plugged back in to be turned on again.

If you’d like me to get another ordered for you let me know.
