Used charge anytime successfully on 3 vehicles. I am now struggling with a new Kona?

Hi, I’ve used charge anytime successfully on 3 vehicles. I am now struggling with a new Kona. It won’t charge the car to the settings I put in both apps. Not had this issue before, any ideas?

Yes, I have a new Kona and I originally set up Charge Anytime to work by reference to the vehicle rather than a recommended charger. I had exactly the same issue with the charge intermittently ceasing.
I consulted OVO and they told me that the Kona was subject to beta testing.

So I abandoned this method of charging and installed a recommended charger, an Indra, and it works perfectly now..

It looks like you are using a slow granny charger which will deliver a charge at the rate of 1.something a kWh. A dedicated charger such as an Ohm or an Indra should charge at the rate of 7.4 KWh in the early hours.

Which charger do you have @Paulh18765 ?

It’s just a plug in cable type like this.

The Kona is only included on a trial basis currently

You may have to agree to the trial to get this working

I’m not sure .. I would think it’s part of the vehicle sign up but as I’ve not been through it I can’t confirm.
As has been mentioned above, your charger is not recommended but you might want to check in to the trial with the team chargeanytime@ovoenergy.com

You are correct - part of the sign up or t&cs

By the way, I probably wouldn’t recommend that particular Granny Charger AT ALL for safety reasons. It seems to fall under the Cheap Chinese Junk category!

I’d say it’s fit for the bin at best. E-Waste at worst...

I’ve had it 3 year now, this is the first issue I’ve had, it’s charged 4 EVs with no problems, saved me an awful lot of money.

Hey @Paulh18765,

Welcome to the community 🎉

I can see some of our members have stopped by to offer advice so far. @BobTom is correct that Kia are currently in the Beta testing phase so expect some stability issues while things are tested. If you do find any bugs or issues you can report them to the Charge Anytime team at chargeanytime@ovo.com

Paul H. You paid £35000 + for your new Kona. It deserves a Christmas present of a new Indra or Ohm charger to compliment your great new car. Get OVO to install it. Eleven hundred quid. Put that Chinese granny charger in the bin before it sets fire to your house. Then charge your new Kona for .07p per kWh. It costs me less than four quid to top up my Konas depleted battery overnight  to give me a range of 280 miles (perhaps a bit less when it’s cold).

I haven’t paid a penny, it’s a company car.  The granny charger as you call it is far away enough from the house burst into flames without an issue 😊. I’m now using the 13a inline charger that comes with the car - no issues, back to 7ppkw - happy days.

Hey @Paulh18765

Glad to hear that you managed to get it working again!

Just to tag onto what @BobTom was saying around buying a charger through OVO. If you ever decide to do this in the future you can bank 2000 bonus miles through our Beyond offer. You’ll find more information on this here. 🚗
