OVO Charge not smart charging anymore

I have two EV’s both added on OVO Charge. Up till around a week ago all has been well, both cars have smart charged just fine. I am now finding that smart charging does not always work. What seems to happen is I plug in an EV and charging starts but does not then get stopped/started under OVO Charge control. The effect of this is that I get charged full rate (as opposed to the 7p VAG deal rate).

Morning @salerio, I hope you’re well.

Sorry to hear this is happening - have you spoken to Charge Anytime about it?

I’ll ask them myself as well - hopefully we’ll get an answer between us. I’ll update this thread when I get an answer, if you wouldn’t mind doing the same we’d appreciate it!

I have discovered (by total accident) that the reason this was happening is because one of my EV’s, an R5 had a scheduled charging time programmed into it. Now the question is why as I did not put it there and it was a very random time (start charging at 01:33 today). Anyway all appears well again now that the schedule has been deleted. This raises a question for me, does CA (on a Renault) control the charge by programming schedules? If then I suspect some sort of little bug.

More info, charged the renault again last night and once again CA has left a programme in the car and the car yet again thinks its plugged in, its not! What will happen now if the next time I charge a car CA will not smart charge. This has only started to happen in the last two weeks, so what has changed at the CA end? The software in the car has not been updated.

@salerio I’m sorry for the delayed response here. I’m glad you got to the bottom of the original issue, but sorry to hear you have another one now.

Have you been in touch with the Charge Anytime team about this? I’ve had a look online and can see a few people saying they’ve experienced similar issues, like in this Reddit thread. Could you try deleting both apps and reinstalling them, just to make sure you’re on the latest versions of both.

Hi I am finding the same issues recently. I have a Leapmotor TO3 and a Zappi 2.1. It charges fine through the Ovo app Urgent Charge. However it refuses recently to charge using the Smart Charge

App tells me it will charge at a set time it seems to try and then cuts off. Any suggestions?

Hey @Johnchisholm !

Sounds like one for the Charge Anytime team! Can you have a chat with them when you get chance please? They can pull the logs and see what’s going on.

0330 175 9678 Option 2 or chargeanytime@ovo.com are the main options to reach them.

Say hi to the team for me! :)

Hi Blastoise 186

As you suggested I spoke with the Charge Anytime Team.  Very helpful clear explanation of problem.

The gap between plugging the car in and the est smart charge start was too large causing the car to go to sleep, not responding at the appropriate time causing the charge cycle to fail.

Solution: simply changed end time from 8am to 11 pm, plugged car in at 8pm Smart Charge started immediately hey presto problem solved.

thankyou

john

Hey @Johnchisholm

Thanks for coming back to the thread with that update, I’m really glad to hear the team were able to help explain what’s happening and how to avoid that in future.

Please pop back if you’ve ever got any other questions, or helpful insights to share with others on their EV journey.😊
